Had reservations for 11 people for our 50th Wedding Anniversary dinner with our family. I was a little skeptical after reading the latest reviews from 2023 but our meal was delicious. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone for a special dinner to a normal night out. We started with family style appetizers for the table, scallops wrapped in bacon, crab stuffed mushrooms, clams casino, shrimp cocktail, calamari and bruschetta. Each serving was delicious. Salad was served before the meal. We ordered off the menu and everyone was pleased with their selection, even our 5-year-old granddaughter with her chicken fingers and fries. We brough our own cake which they cut and served for a small fee. I would recommend Filomena's to anyone looking for a good meal. We will be back!! I really wanted to like this place. When I walked in I thought the place was very nice. Was initially told there is an up charge. If they're going to raise the prices they need to change their menu . They give you bread with marinated Peppers which was delicious. My burrata appetizer was delicious. My Caesar salad was lifeless. They gave me tiny little crumbles of croutons like it was what was left in the bag. Had I have known it would be $3 extra for it I would never have gotten it. As far as the main course I got the risotto with the shrimp. It was the most tasteless risotto I've ever had in my life. It tasted like they boiled it in a bag and dumped it on the plate. My date had something similar that was Bland as well. They tried to make it right by giving us another dish of the risotto but why would I want Bland risotto again. We ended up choosing a dessert instead. The Apple cobbler dish. It tasted like it was frozen and thrown in the oven. Again nothing to write home about. I love this place! My husband and I moved to the area about a year ago and this has been our number one date night spot. The food is amazing every time we come here. We love the Bruschetta Toscana appetizer every time. We enjoy it very much! For our main course my husband loves the chicken parm. The chicken parm is a huge piece of chicken with a size of spaghetti. He just eats the chicken. I always take a bite or two and it is amazing! I enjoy the shrimp in vodka sauce with penne dish. The service is always really good, no matter how busy it is when we come we always get good service. Mgmt and staff are not honest. Personal experience when it came to checking out and prepaying for a take-out order at Filomena Berlin NJ. Was billed higher and billed incorrectly for my order and then charged for something I didn't ask for but they took the liberty on there own and then forced it down my throat, literally - you have to read on. Supposedly at the last minute an item I asked about (dessert) that they previously checked on was now unavailable. How is that in the course of 5 minutes when asking if they have something to suddenly here is your order and now we don't have it. There intentions seemed genuine and was given a new receipt showing the item removed with lesser charge. But later I saw my original higher charge receipt on my bank statement and no credit. (yes I have both copies) but read on as this doesn't matter, and the owners want to stand there ground for there 8 bucks. So I called to have this corrected but the owner during her in house follow up was lied to by her staff about the situation. As I said my bill was to be adjusted which is what I was told by the gentleman in the suite at the receptionist station. The 2nd receipt he gave me after looking closer (days later) was not a completed transaction receipt. (my fault for not insisting he refund the 1st one and re-bill me which basically was what I asked. He intern manipulated me in thinking I was being charged less by saying he already took care of it in the system and this new receipt was the final charge. He then added and said, have this piece of pound cake instead and is on us since its not what you ordered, I already put in the bag for you, you are all set. After calling and speaking to the owner: The owner tried to say since they gave me a dessert (which was no way in comparison to what I wanted, Lemon Chello) that my bill was correct. I said what about all the business with you being out of the dessert I wanted. And then on your own put the pound cake in its place and handed me my order saying I am sorry we are out of your dessert here is a complimentary slice of pound cake. (The owner wanted to argue as if I was making this all up) very confrontational and poor customer service. In the end I just gave in, I felt sick having to make a case for something I never received, and felt now like they forced me to have this dessert and pay for it. How dare them right? This is the most ragged establishment I've been too. Major potential but in the meantime majorly run down. Had a gift card to Filomena and we couldn't use it in Deptford and had to go here. #1 the bread basket here is weak. If you have ever been to the lakeside one, expect nothing like nothing like Deptford. Stale and small. Minimal amount of bread and peppers. #2 the drinks are weak and not a full pour. You'd be best served ordering a draft beer or something that can't be watered down or overly iced. #3 if you sit at the bar bring some type of padding for your back. Every stool in this joint is from the Hollywood tower of terror hotel. Seems like it's from the 1800's with nails poking into your back. Think you can swap it for a different stool? Not a chance they're all beat. #4 need to use the restroom. Wait your turn to wash your hands. There are 2 sinks in the women's restroom but one is out of order. #5 think you're off the hook cause you're a man...? Not a chance. My husband said the men's restroom has two urinals but neither one flushes. #6 considering ordering the escarole soup. If you love broth only this is the soup For you. No chicken or meatballs... My boyfriend and I recently dined at this restaurant as we were looking for an Italian restaurant to try since we would be moving to the area. We called prior to make sure reservations weren't needed and were told to come right over. We dined pretty early around 4ish. Were greeted warmly by an older woman and seated in a booth. A waiter brought over waters and our waitress immediately took our drink orders and came back to take the appetizer order. I had the holiday sangria which was absolutely delicious and my boyfriend had a dirty martini which he said was great. For an appetizer we ordered the Burrata with Prosciutto which was absolutely delicious and extremely fresh. For dinner I had the Seafood Fra Diablo which had shrimp, crab, and scallops with linguine. My dish was excellent and I would definitely order again. My boyfriend had the gnocchi and he loved it. I'm not typically a gnocchi fan, but I tried some and it was really good. Both items came with Caesar salad which was fresh and tasted great. For dessert I had the cream brûlée and my boyfriend the bread pudding. A group of 10 of us went to dinner at Filomena's. I just wanted a sandwich. I was told they couldn't serve me a sandwich at the table, that it is bar food. I said no problem i would go to the bar. I went to the bar, ordered and paid for the sandwich and said i would come back. The hostess then came over to me and said they could not bring the sandwich to the table and would i like to order off the dinner menu. I told him i would eat the sandwich at the bar. That is what i planned on when i ordered the sandwich. Then i just got annoyed that my sandwich became such an issue that i said i would go cancel the order and order off the dinner menu. So i went to the hostess stand to ask the manager to cancel the order. She said the order was already cancelled. How was my order cancelled, i wasn't told about it until i went to the staff? Then i said i needed to be credited then because i paid for it. She said she would. Then shortly after a man brought my sandwich to the table of 10 i was with and said he was comping it. I said thank you. We were ready to leave and i had not been given a receipt showing my sandwixh was credited. So i went and asked the woman at the hostess stand. I was told she was the manager. I told her the man had told me my sandwich was comped. She told me he was joking. What? What establishment jokes to customers about comping their meal? I am still stunned this whole fiasco happened. This was my first time coming to this restaurant. I was there for a lunch after the funeral for one of my uncles dad who passed away. I had no idea how many people would show up. My grandma sat with my aunt and they sat with a lot of my uncles family. There was not really any room for my dad and me in the little room so we came out to the sit right next to the bar. There were other seats to sit there. We ended up seeing one of my other aunts and we decided to pick a table with them because we would have someone to talk to. My aunt saw this high table it was the closet to the back side door and closest to the other three tables with white table cloths on them. One of the waitresses saw us starting to sit there and asked if we could move to one of the three tables with the table cloths on it. My aunt asked if we could sit there, but he told us it would be easier to know who is in and we said we would move if he really wanted us to, but then he said we could sit there. After a little more the table did get filled so if we were sitting there the people who came would of had to sit at the high table anyways because there was no more room. Since then The whole time he seemed to give us attitude. Like he asked us for drinks and I asked if you guys had root beer he gave me a one straight answer and he seemed annoyed. I was going to ask what other drinks you guys had, but because of the way he said no back to me I just felt like he would give me a very annoyed answer. Then we had a good rest of the time. Then when the main lunch meal came out he started to give us attitude again. This would be the next time we dealt with him. When he was giving us our meal he ended up saying just give me a straight answer yes or no then made a comment about us switching seats when we sat in the same seats the whole time from the first time our butts hit the seats. Then he almost forgot my aunts meal because of how annoyed he seemed with us. Later my other aunt came to talk with us and we said something about the server to her. She said she didn't really like him either. Apparently she asked a question about the food and he said something like that's how it is served. I never had a problem with any other servers they were all nice just this one seemed very annoyed with us and it was just annoying. Filomena's has always been one of my favorite restaurants to go to. However, I will not be going back there and I will be sure to spread my review across the entire internet so every possible person could see the review before going into the restaurant. I called to set up a time where I could bring ~30 people for a surprise 60th birthday party. The party isn't going to be for another two months but I wanted to secure my reservation and give the restaurant ample time to do what they need to do before the party occurs. As a college student, I do not have money to afford 20-30 people's entrees and drinks. So, I requested that I could purchase party sized appetizers. I was promptly told "I won't be making money if no one buys dinners and drinks." Instead of being politely told, "No. I am sorry. We don't have appetizer only arrangements for dinner parties." I was told repeatedly that "I won't be making money..." The woman was extremely rude and basically offered little to no advice on how to resolve the issue other than contact my guests and pry information out of each person on whether or not they are going to buy dinners and drinks or not... I realize the restaurant is small and there are only so many guests in the dining area, but when you are completely rude to someone trying to book a party, pay attention to them instead of telling them that they're going to lose money if we don't do entrees and drinks. Now, I know at least half of the guests will order dinners and I am sure that most will order drinks. But that wasn't good enough for them. For a second we thought they closed and checked their time online -10pm. We ignored that and kept talking but noticed a different gentlemen kept coming around our table. So we figured it was time to go. On our way out, another waiter made a comment about how late we were their till- at this point it was around 9:45!! Still not past their closing time. The very end of our night was rather annoying. I get people want to go home but we weren't even past closing time. We were just chatting not keeping the kitchen open or anything. We went their recently, but before we went I checked the website to make sure the special dinner was on the menu We arrived at the restaurant and asked for the special menu. The waitress told me they no longer served that. I asked to see the manager and I asked him why they still show it on their website. He said it no longer is. I showed him it was. He said he was going to call the owner and he came back and said the owner said no. He then proceeded to tell me it was on their new website, not their old one. When I looked up the restaurant the new one never came up. We proceeded to look at the full menu. When it was my turn to order I chose a steak dish. It was $32 I gave the order to my waitress and she told me it is now $38. Nowhere on the menu does it list that. We recently hosted the luncheon after my mother-in-law's funeral and I truly can't say enough good things. From the very beginning Domenica was a pleasure to work with; she shared menus, gave me both plated and buffet options in several price points and well as options for beverage service. They worked directly with the funeral home who gave them final estimated counts as we left Mass. Everything was prepared as discussed and they were thoughtful enough to reserve a table for the immediate family. We had Caesar Salad, Rigatoni, Chicken Parmesan, Stuffed Flounder and Sausage and Peppers and we selected Cheesecake for dessert- everything was delicious, hot and kept full long after everyone had seconds... there was plenty of fresh bread and the staff took excellent care of refilling drinks, checking on my father in law and all of the guests. Okay so you need to choose this place if you want to have a stress free party with wonderful, plentiful food and great service by a truly caring staff. It's that simple. We had our son's and his fiancé's engagement dinner there last night (Saturday). We got there a half hour ahead of our guests to set up cookies etc that we brought. The tables were already set up and we immediately were greeted by two employees who helped us with place setting/chair rearranging due to a few last minute no-shows. We even were visited several times throughout the evening by the wonderful Domenica, the person who met with me initially for the arrangements. Domenica kept popping in to ask us if we needed anything and to make sure things were moving smoothly. I was surprised that she was there on a Saturday night because I know she's there all week too! It was great to see that level of commitment to us because I knew it was also really busy in their restaurant and bar. Filomenas is the place to go on Saturday evenings. We chose to have a separate table set up with wine and beer that the servers poured for us all evening! Debbie and Matt, our servers, also really kept things moving from course to course and were so attentive that if you left your chair even for a few minutes you returned to find your napkin refolded! Thanks to both of them for their hard work throughout the evening. You get three choices of appetizer plus bruschetta on crusty bread on each table. Then a pasta course, a salad course and then three choices of entree. We chose filet mignon, crab stuffed flounder and chicken saltimbocca. All were excellent. The peace of mind that you get at Filomena's when you trust them with an important celebration is only topped by their incredible food! I was taken here for lunch today and this is what happened: we sat around 1:15 and placed orders at around 1:30, not because we took a long time to decide but because it was so hard to find a waitress. One person was served a soup at, say, 1:45. Salads came around 2:00. Meals came around 2:20. We got out a little before 3. Lunch should NEVER take more than an hour, especially on a weekday when people need to get back to work, and especially with a 1/3-full restaurant. We were never offered an apology for the wait, either, so I'm going to take that to mean this is the norm. I know that Italians like to linger over their meals and that's cool, but come on, people, this is lunchtime in America! The food made up in part for the bad service. I had the "come ti piace" (pick any three toppings) brick-oven pizza with eggplant, spinach, and artichoke and it was delicious. Not too greasy with lots of fresh toppings, this was definitely one of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. If I had time to sit around with old friends and a couple bottles of wine while waiting for my food, I would definitely come back here for dinner or on a weekend. But on this occasion I have to say that I was disappointedly surprised by the service I received and I was outright shocked by my waiters behavior regarding giving me change for my bill. So I decided to order ONLY appetizers to avoid the carbs. My friend ordered an appetizer and an entree (I won't be reviewing her order). I ordered 3 appetizers: 1. Burrata Mozzarella .... The Burrata was good...although small. 2. Arugula salad.... Was not flavorful and not appetizing at all. 3. Eggplant rotolo.... Eggplant stuffed (rolled) with ricotta cheese. Quite good... Except covered in bottled (tasting) marinara sauce that didn't add to the fact I'm in a restaurant... This something I would pour over food at home when I'm short of time. Why is this being done at a restaurant??? I would have given the restaurant 3 stats. My food was ok. Nothing special.... Especially for an Italian restaurant. But what shocked me the most was the behavior of the waiter. Upon presenting me with the bill, I promptly pulled out cash to pay... And the waiter asked me if I wanted change... This restaurant is hardly a shack by the side of the road. Far from it... (The interior is rather nice). So why is my waiter asking me about keeping the change??? I find this behavior TACKY on the restaurants part.... Who are these servers anyway???? Are they NOT being trained to speak to customers??? I paid the bill in cash... However upon receiving my change.... I was shorted by 89¢. I know some restaurants round down by NOT charging patrons change less than $1.... BUT by not giving me back the change I was shocked and a bit angry. This average meal (where I would normally say the restaurant had an off day) plus the Behavior by the waiter really ruined my lunch out with my friend. :( I really don't want to return to this location.... When my wife and I finally get a date night, we spend a lot of time picking where to go. This evening we picked Filomena's Cucina, in Berlin, NJ. We chose to sit in the bar area because they of the live music offering. Going through the menu, we easily were able to pick items that suited both of us...she's more seafood, and I usually pick an Italian or "meat and potatoes". We started with cocktails which were perfectly blended...for appetizers, she went with a nice seafood dish-shrimp, scallops, mussels, sautéed in a sweet garlic wine sauce. I had the Filet Bruschetta, which actually isn't a regular to the menu, but absolutely amazing (you have to ask for it). Marinated thin filets covered with sweet peppers and tomatoes, on a creamy gorgonzola paste, resting on a slice of Italian bread. AMAZING.
