This is such a cool, little known place that I'm almost hesitant to review it…read more Yesterday, I was showing Reno's cemetery's to a friend. It turns out there are several of these not far from my old SW neighborhood. I've been driving by this location on Stoker for more than 25 years, yet have never gone inside. Yes, it's a cemetery. But it's so much more. Whether or not you care for the Masons (I don't particularly), you've got to admire the effort and money they've put into the grounds of this place. Most headstones are flat, but there are a number of older, Victorian era crypts here. It would be a perfect location for filming a horror movie. There must be 30 crypts, mostly situated around the edges of the cemetery. When driving in, you climb a steep hill that hides the expansive grounds until you summit and are greeted by an huge expanse of park-like grounds that go for acres and acres. I'd estimate there are at least 8 or 9 acres that continue across the sunken freeway. You cross above the freeway on a somewhat scary, narrow bridge that I'd guess is used as a shortcut by bike riders. On the North side of the freeway, a number of homes back up to these grounds, so far unpaved and undeveloped. With our diet programs in full swing, Krista and I have been looking for out of the way idyllic spots to take walks when the weather is better. This is it! There are perhaps 10 named and paved streets that you can drive around, so we drove the entire cemetery at about 15 miles per hour, because, you know me, I want to be sure the place is safe, or else I'll need to get a concealed weapons permit. Safe, safe, safe, though I'd rather go here with a buddy than alone because NO ONE IS HERE! Unless you count dead people, and I'm not one of those who can, or want to, talk to them. I'd guesstimate that we could walk for 3 or 4 miles easily by taking a circuitous route. And, the gate is wide open to the public, so apparently one and all are welcome. I'm Jazzed!

I do bring my own scissors and trim around the headstones, but the grounds are mowed and I see nothing wrong when I come to switch out my loved ones flowers. I dropped by the office last week with some questions and I had. Charles was able to assist Jolene and Fred who went above and beyond to help me. Jolene was the sweetest and she was able to address every concern I had. I made an appointment with Jolene to come back next month, so I can move forward with my plot selection and final details. I'll feel better once I've completed all of my estate planning, so my children aren't burdened after we're gone. The prices are a bit higher for plots than our Mother of Sorrow down the road, but I want to be closer to my family. Not a dig at Our Mother of Sorrows, but I was there last week to visit a cousin that was recently buried and our aunt who passed in 2022. I was mortified to see a pile of headstones in the sandy area below of the garden where our aunt is buried. I have never seen this in the past 20 years at Mountain View Cemetery. I have read some horrid reviews for this cemetery, but that isn't my family's experience here or even close. I have personally dealt with Charles for my last two family funerals and he made it a breeze, so I could return to my grief. Thank you Jolene, Fred and Charles. I'll see you guys next month.

I received a "survey" letter from Walton's with an offer of a free gift to complete their survey. I feel the timing, and the wording was horrible and ghoulish. I don't see any value to this marketing ploy. Walton's has survived by word of mouth and having been a staple in the community to help the bereaved through the process. This survey seems lowly for Walton's to do. Especially during the holiday season. Capitalizing on the death of loved ones during the holiday season, while pretentiously offering a free gift, while gathering data. Shameful.
