I called to get information about cremation and told the person I had no experience with this and i wanted to find out everything i needed to know. She was rude, spoke fast, had no patience and used language that only someone with experience in cremation would understand. she was not clear on the process and made it sound like my mom's body would be waiting around somewhere unknown for two weeks until they had a permit to pick it up and i did not understand where her body would be for these two weeks and it was quite complicated to get her to explain the very simple process to me and she was not nice. i would not use this company. no compassion and totally rude. i called many other funeral homes and they all were much nicer than this woman. read more

No one wants to do this review, ever. But it is such a necessity when someone is grieving. When my father-in-law in law took a sudden turn in health and we knew he would soon leave this world, we wanted to be prepared. I called a few places but had a difficult time getting to speak to someone beyond the receptionist. Most wanted to set up an appointment and I kept saying "I don't think I have that time, he has days and may pass this weekend. I want to speak to the funeral director and who I will deal with for cremation if we use your facility." Truckee Meadows was the only place I was able to speak to THE people. Taylor was amazing on the phone and put me at ease. She told me what to expect beyond just pricing. She explained the processes, how my father-in-law would be cared for in preparation for his journey to the afterlife, and how they support us in contacting the appreciate agencies. She then said, "And make sure you call around! You want to find the right fit for this process. You want to be comfortable." That sealed the deal. My father-in-law ended up passing over the 3 day weekend and Truckee Meadows came through as promised. When the hospital ran behind reaching out to funeral homes due to the holiday, Truckee Meadows proactively called for us so we knew my father-in-law was in their care immediately. I recently visited Truckee Meadows Cremation and Burial to purchase a scattering urn for my father's ashes. It had been 6 years since my father had passed away but when you are dealing with this sort of unfinished business it can still be very emotional. The staff at Truckee Meadows Cremation and Burial were so kind and empathetic throughout the process. I decided to walk in without an appointment after having pursued their easy to use website for a scattering urn with the best print. Despite my walk in status, they were able to have a conversation with me right away and helped me order the specific golf themed scattering urn I had seen online. When the urn arrived I was contacted right away and I arranged to pick it up the following week. Due to some changes in health and availability I found myself in need of a second smaller scattering urn just days before I was scheduled to pick up the first. When I arrived the staff was able to help me pick out the second urn from their available inventory and they transferred the ashes into the two urns for me, which was very helpful. Overall I was served promptly and with the utmost kindness throughout what could have been a difficult process. read more

Beware of this Crematorium! My uncle chose this company to care for my dear aunt that passed away in a tragic accident. She did not want a service so my uncle paid extra to have her body prepared for close friends and family to view her and say goodbye before she was cremated. Due to her accident it is understood that she would not look perfect but they did a horrible job. Her makeup was a strange orange color that was not blended, her hair was not as she wore it, she was unrecognizable. They placed us in a small room that was dusty with 4 chairs that looked like they were from the 1800's, which gave the room creepy vibe. As we were walking to the viewing room the underdressed staff was playing "who will save your soul" by jewel on the radio, while talking about how they were going out to party that night. As we were leaving my uncle had some questions, the lady would not stop what she was doing to look him in the eyes to answer him. The lack of professionalism and care for a grieving senior widower was unbelievable. This company seemed to be a place that takes advantage of seniors that are in desperate grief. I do not recommend you use them to care for your loved ones. read more

After 2 years, I need to add my input. Our daughter passed away in Reno and we were unfamiliar with businesses there, the hospital suggested Truckee Meadows. We decided on cremation, therefore we knew there would be minimal body prep before pre-cremation viewing. However, our daughter had been on life-support so her face area needed a little TLC. Was not done, we pulled the sheet up so it wouldn't be too shocking to her sister. REALLY?! How compassionate is that? Would that have been too much work? Then they misspelled her name on the cremation certificate. I requested a correction, and for some reason that seemed a lot to ask. When I picked it up, they were brusk and dismissive. Perhaps it's time for them to go into another line of work. I will forever wonder if the ashes I have were really those of my daughter. read more

Well, there's really no way to review a cremation place with an uplifting tone - so let me just cover the bases. The people who work here are friendly and supportive. They'll work within your budget. They cremate on site. It's family owned. They act as quickly as you'd like them to. It just looks like a house on a busy street, but once you go inside there's a conference type room and a viewing room. I'm assuming the cremation happens in the back, the lady assured me they do it on site. Finding a place that didn't over change was hard. And as much as I hate reviewing a place like this because it's just not fun, I hope that someone finds it useful at some point. I highly recommend them. read more

Absolutely horrible. Do not use for your loved ones. We chose this funeral home due to the fact that they were the only family owned funeral homes in the entire area, that we found. My initial meeting with Harrison was okay at first. I gave VERY specific instructions that I needed a sound system at the facility for the service, as well as the ability to show a slide show. I also requested that someone from his facility direct the service and say a prayer at the end. The funeral was set at Our Mother of Sorrows in Reno on Sat 1/19/19 at 1 pm. Harrison stated the sound system would be ready and that the hearse would arrive at 12:45 pm so to have the pall bearers there at that time. I arrived at 12:30 pm. No sound system or slide show screen was set up. There was no rep from Truckee Meadows there. I spoke with a woman at Our Mother of Sorrows. She proceeded to attempt to set up a sound system. 45 minutes later, as guests had arrived, she was still attempting this. She was dressed in a bright red sweater, that was not appropriate for a funeral, in my opinion. The guests were further made to wait while she attempted to set up a screen for the slide show. All together this sound system/screen caused over 1 hour of delay At 1:15 the hearse finally showed up. The person from Truckee Meadows had not been informed that someone from their facility was to direct the service or say a prayer at the end of the service. There was many delays due to this issue as he scrambled to come up with something. After the services, on Monday, I called Harrison to discuss these issues. All I was told is "I'm very sorry". Sorry does not cut it! These services were for my fiance who passed away suddenly at the young age of 51. This was the final respect I could give to him and Truckee Meadows completely blew it! After Harrision called me to pick up my love's ashes and death certificates, I forgot to pick up the duffle bag that had brought his clothes to the facility. I had two shirts in the bag. I was unsure if one was going to work due to a small spot on it. They were told, very specifically, that if shirt #1 would work that we would like shirt #2 and the duffle bag returned. If shirt #2 was needed, we wanted shirt #1 and the duffle bag returned. When I realized I forgot to pick up the bag and shirt on 1/29/19 I called on 1/30/19. A woman that answered the phone stated she would check into this issue and get back to me. She did not. I had to call again. Harrison answered this time and stated he would check into the issue and get back to me. Harrison called a short time later and stated shirt #2 that was supposed to be returned to me was cremated along with my fiance. This was against VERY SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS! I cannot say how disappointed I am that this facility did not listen to our requests throughout the entire process and when the issues were brought to their attention, they did not care. PLEASE DO NOT USE THIS FACILITY FOR YOUR LOVED ONES. You will be sorely disappointed. read more

Our initial encounter with Truckee Meadows Funeral Home was nothing short of phenomenal! The two gentlemen that came to our home - Alex and James were professional and compassionate. However, at the time of our office visit - the girl in the office was extremely cold and sour. The visit was decent but the follow up was HORRIFIC! It took several weeks to receive the death certificates, which we specifically stated we urgently needed and it caused her more grief than she needed. We were incredibly disappointed. read more

This business is caring, kind, organized, highly knowledgeable and has a great value for its services. They cater to veterans, which I am, and have a great cremation package in which they take care of all details with the VA cemetery. I took my mother in there to conduct pre-planning for cremation and I ended up getting my own plan. Unlike a lot of businesses we were never pressured into any upgrades or to purchase more than we wanted to. There was no high pressure sales pitch and I was thoroughly satisfied with the experience. They took a lot of time explaining what would be needed and the process of cremation. When the time came and they picked my father's body up from his house, they were so very kind and respectful. When my father passed we had intentions of using the funeral home he had already paid for years ago. Come to find out, because he moved out of state the cost to transport him for the handling was outrageous. We called Truckee Meadows and they were the best price for what we needed. It turns out the service we received, for a simple cremation and death certificates, was far above the service my dad had already paid for in California! We live in California and had to make a trip here to get his remains. They handled everything as fast as they could control, they returned phone calls when they said they would, they answered the phone on a Sunday and were willing to come into the office to look at his file to answer my question (that wasn't that important) and then even handled a few small requests for me. While looking for a funeral home, I was hoping to find some reviews. Obviously there are not many. I made my phone calls a few days before my moms death, when I called Truckee Meadows, Caroll was very upfront and honest, no weird funeral home speak. When my mom passed away, Truckee Meadows showed up to take her away. JoAnn came in and hugged all of us. When they transferred my mom we all stepped into the other room, the hospice nurse came in and told us they are the only funeral home that wraps the person in a sheet not a plastic bag. We made the decision to go out and say a final goodbye. They had my mom on the gurney with a beautiful velvet blanket over her. This may seem a little weird, but this was really important to us. I have been through this before, and this was the most comfortable experience I have been through. I hope this helps you with this difficult decision. read more

We pre-arranged and pre-paid a funeral for a family member there a couple of years ago, and the time came to use it recently. Frankly, we had chosen them because they were so much cheaper than others in the area and because they'd let us pre-pay. When we went back to them this month, they carried out our plans exactly as we'd made them with absolutely no effort to upsell us on anything. They even talked us out of paying for embalming, which they correctly said we didn't need. The casket we'd picked out from a catalog looked fine. They do not have a chapel or any facility for holding funeral services, so this may not be the place for you if you want a big, impressive funeral all in one package. However, if you are looking to cremate or bury someone as affordably as possible while still maintaining the dignity of the deceased, I definitely recommend Truckee Meadows. read more

We were referred to Truckee Meadows Cremation & Burial by our hospice providers. They are affordable and unpretentious, but we were not treated with empathy- it was just a cold business transaction. When we walked into the office, it took several minutes for us to be greeted (we had an appointment). No one was actively rude, but I was really disappointed by the frigidity of the staff. They have pamphlets and flyers out for grief counseling and support, yet they did not treat me or my mother (especially my mother, who obviously needed it) with sympathy and understanding. Perhaps years of working in the funeral industry desensitizes workers to the gravity of losing a loved one, but as a customer, I was very disappointed. They did take care of everything and had a fast turnaround time, so I give them props for that. And again, they are affordable...But the lack of humanity my mother and I experienced is reason enough for me to not recommend Truckee Meadows Cremation & Burial. My Dad passed away a couple months ago and after researching a couple crematory places, I contacted Truckee Meadows. Carol was prompt in initial contact, I sent in the paperwork needed, they retrieved my father from the hospital, emailed me a proof of the death certificate, etc. I then met with Carol at their office in Reno. It was very straight and to the point. I know some may want someone that rubs backs but I think he could tell I had to stick to business or I would probably get too emotional. Their prices were very reasonable. No upsell on anything but they do have very nice products (urns is what we were looking for). I did ask just two requests- that they would call me when they had the date that my Dad would be cremated so I could say a little prayer... And that they would split the remains in half for my brother and I. They said that would be fine. Although after 2 weeks with no communication, I emailed and asked. The following day I received a response that my Dad was cremated 9 days beforehand and that he and the death certificates were waiting there for me. They did split them as I requested. It broke my heart a bit that not only did they not email or call me about the cremation but that they didn't let me know when he was ready for pick up. So I had to remove 1star for that. I personally think that the couple that own and run it are just stretched really thin and have been doing it probably longer than they would like. I don't have any ill will at all towards them, just had to write the good and the not so good. read more

Because my beloved father's health condition declined unexpected fast, I did not have much time to look for a cremation company. Fortunately, I found Truckee Meadows Cremation & Burial on line. I liked their website, which is very simple and straight forward, with clearly marked prices for a variety of services and no hidden fee. When I went to visit, JoAnn greeted me and then Carol soon sat down with me and talked about services they offer. I felt that they really cared about what you want! No forced sale at all. My father passed away a day later and they assured me they would get my father as soon as the hospital finished all the paperwork. My mom and I wanted to say a final goodbye on the cremation day. I called JoAnn, she told me it was fine. Tanya called to give us directions to the cremation site and her cell phone number and told us we can call her anytime, 24 hours before cremation day. The way they treat you really makes you feel they care about you and they are very supportive! On the cremation day, Tanya hugged us and told us to take our time to say our final goodbye. The cremation site is clean and neat. I would recommend Truckee Meadows Cremation & Burial to everyone who would choose cremation. Originally I was happy with the experience of working with the employees at Truckee Meadows. The women with whom I death with on the Death Certificate and ordering of cremation services, etc. were kind and helpful. However, as the process continued I contacted them via phone and email (at least 3 times) asking that the invoice be sent to me (sister of the deceased) instead of my sister-in-law (wife of deceased) so she would not have to pay for it and fret over the cost in addition to all the medical bills anticipated. Instead of responding to my emails, Truckee Meadows called my sister-in-law and mentioned that they were getting ready to send the ashes, but they needed the payment (well over $1000). With no choice but to pay she ended up taking care of the costs at that moment much to my chagrin and anger. I immediately called and shared my displeasure with the TM receptionist and FINALLY got a return phone call from the manager with lame apologies only after the damage was done. For a business that not only needs to have great compassion and understanding, it also needs to be more than normally aware of the needs of those who are grieving, emotionally first and financially second. Truckee Meadows did NEITHER in this case. I am still furious and hope others will be less inclined to use them as a result. read more

Used their services for the first time this month and just had to write a review because of the excellent and reasonably priced service they provided. Both of my parents passed away here in Reno - my Father passed first, several years ago, and I used another mortuary. No issues there, except that it was extremely expensive. When my Mother passed earlier this month, a relative recommended Truckee Meadows Cremation and Burial, telling me it was a lot less expensive than the other mortuary we previously used. I immediately called and spoke with Joann who was very helpful in having my Mother transferred from the on-call facility, then went in and met with Carroll who was always very helpful. Things went smoothly and all for more than half the cost of the other mortuary I used! I bought caskets from the mortuary each time (yes, I know it's cheaper to buy online), and even with that added cost, Truckee Meadows Cremation and Burial's cost was still substantially (translation - thousands less) lower than the other mortuary, without compromising service or quality in any way. I would definitely recommend Truckee Meadows Cremation and Burial - they are reasonably priced and they'll give you much needed peace of mind at a most difficult time. read more

If I could give a zero for this review I would. Our experience with this facility was absolutely appalling. My father passed away very unexpectedly while on vacation here. Upon arrival to the facility it was obvious that the accommodations were terrible. It is located in a run down house that smells terrible upon entrance. The woman at the desk asked if she could help us despite us having an appointment. We informed her we had an appointment and she told us it would be just a second. Shortly thereafter a man named Carol came out to get us. He took us back to a small room. In this room was a table with 4 chairs. Carol told us to take a seat in any chair except his. He then proceeded to pull out two folding chairs. We took a seat and Carol immediately got down to business asking questions about my father's personal information for the death certificate. There was no Kleenex offered and no compassion. I honestly have never met someone so insensitive in my life. Carol left the room to photocopy my dad's ID and at that point I asked my mother if she was uncomfortable with the way we were being treated. She said yes but was scared and didn't know what other options we had. When Carol came back into the room, I immediately expressed my concerns that I was frustrated with his lack of care and compassion. I told him that I knew it was a business transaction for him but for us it was a very emotional and scary time. Carol's response was to immediately shut the folder with my dad's paperwork, stand up and slide the folder across the table to us. No sincere apology, no explanation for his behavior, we were just dismissed. We immediately left and phoned another local funeral home and were very thankful we did. I wouldn't recommend Truckee Meadows to my worst enemy. I will be contacting the BBB, the local newspaper and the hospital who recommended this facility. read more
