After his 45 minute sales pitch, he offered to do the work for an astronomical price ($17K) and then gradually came down to a price which still seemed expensive ($5.1K), but reasonable in light of his slick sales strategy. I accepted this because I hadn't done my research. When the sub contractor came to do the work (for which he would be paid $400), he pointed out that there was a gap between some of the gutters and the roof and mentioned that that would have be fixed first. He also pointed out that he couldn't get to the highest gutters without doing damage to the roof because he didn't have the right ladder. When I pointed this out to Leaf Filter, they wanted me to sign a waiver. That was my way out and I decided not to go that route. After doing some research, I learned that the company is notorious for these high pressure sales tactics which many people fall for. I think they are selling an okay product, but, after doing some research, I think it's overpriced. It's also questionable if these gutter guards work in the long-term. I read that leaves and debris can gather on top of the gutter guards over time making them ineffective. After a little more searching, I came across this video which gives an honest look at the company and their product: https://tinyurl.com/4uzyp5rs. The bottom line: even if you install a leaf guard--and you actually have trees that drop leaves and other debris on the roof--your gutters will likely still need to be serviced! So, the conclusion I've come to is that gutter cleaning is just one of the necessary expenses involved in owning a home that's surrounded by trees. Of course, you could do it yourself if you have the proper equipment, but if you have 3 floors and steep roofs, like I do, you might want to leave it up to the professionals.

Unfortunately, that timeframe was not honored. Our first scheduled installation was missed entirely. Despite what was later communicated to us, there was no rain that day--the crew simply did not show up. After additional delays and rescheduling, we were eventually given dates extending into the middle of October. We explained that because of our work schedules and other obligations, we no longer had the capacity to continue taking time off and rearranging our lives around an installation date that continued to change. We were not demanding that the company complete the work on a specific date; we were asking for a reasonable exit from the contract because the project had been delayed well beyond the timeframe originally communicated to us. Although the company offered a discount, that did not solve the actual problem: our availability had changed because of the delays. Instead of acknowledging that, we were repeatedly told that canceling would result in a substantial cancellation fee and that our reason for canceling was not considered legitimate. What was most disappointing was the way our concerns were characterized as unreasonable when we had already made multiple attempts to accommodate the company. As customers, we expected better communication, accountability, and consideration for the time we had already invested. Based on our experience, I would strongly encourage anyone considering this company to carefully review the cancellation provisions, installation timeframe language, and scheduling policies in the contract before signing.
