I would NOT recommend. Dr. Wang talks down to her staff and is only nice to her patients. I overheard her berating and speaking in such a disrespectful manner to a staff member and I knew I would not be returning. Do yourself a favor and don't patronize such a place. Also look at the "hidden" comments they are ALL from people of color who had bad experiences yet ALL of her good reviews are from ahem you get the picture. Where do I begin? I first met the dental hygienist (blonde woman, short hair, in her 60s). I shared my concern about 1 veneer. She dismissed it, and told me I needed Invisalign to resolve my problem. Against I explained the history of the problem and that a previous dentist had addressed the issue effectively. She became noticeably irritated and argumentative, and raised her voice. I literally stopped talking. At one point she reached for my mouth and touched my lip with an ungloved hand. I asked her to not touch my mouth with ungloved hands. I did not engage with her any further as she cleaned my teeth. She proceeded to clean my teeth, and continued to talk about the issue I'd presented initially (in a slightly more calm manner). At one point she pulled down her mask to show me her Invisalign. I asked her to pull her mask back up as I was unmasked (basic COVID precaution). Once she was done cleaning my teeth I asked her if I could give her some feedback. She agreed. I said, "I trust your intent, but you have to think about impact as well when you interact with patients. When you're trying to communicate with and educate a patient, getting irritated and argumentative isn't going to make your patient hear you. I can't hear you when you're raising your voice, getting noticeably irritated, and arguing with me. She apologized. Also, you shouldn't touch a patient's mouth with ungloved hands." She turned away from me, clenched her jaw, and didn't say a word, again visibly upset. I communicated the same concerns to Dr. Wang at the front desk. Her first response was to say she hadn't seen her do that. Her second response was to ask what I do. I replied, I'm a nurse. Her response was, "Oh, so you're in the field." Why do you have to qualify my feedback with what I do for a living? A provider should care about my feedback because what happened is unacceptable and I'm your patient, not because I'm in the medical field. At no point did she say she'd speak with the employee and address the behavior. I'm incredibly disappointed in any medical establishment that doesn't hold employees accountable for their negative behavior, despite it's impact on patients. No one should be able to behave this way with impunity. I won't be returning. UPDATE: The info the dentist provided on the cost of fillings (said my insurance wouldn't cover them so is I'd have to pay 1000s), was not accurate. I just saw another dentist who assessed me and determined I needed far less dental work. Also, they informed me dental work would be covered at 80%, meaning I'd only have to pay a few $$$ out-of-pocket. Accurate info will save you 1000s, apparently. In response to my review, the front desk emailed me telling me they're sorry I'm frustrated. Really, that's what you got from my feedback? i heartily recommend this facility. all the staff are wonderful, super helpful. I was a difficult case. Dr Wang performed an implant which was a process in itself ,with draining from an infection and a bone graft. After healing I finally got my crown. I'm 77 and every step of the process was explained to me. Also any of the surgery performed below the gum line was covered by medicare. No other dentist I went to suggested that. Service was good and Dr. Lisa Wang appears knowledgeable and certainly knows her craft, but... Beware if this is OUT OF NETWORK with your insurance, you may end up with more OUT OF POCKET COSTS than without insurance. Staff could have done a better job of finding out how much is covered by insurance before offering different procedures and having us end up with 600+ out of pocket cost for two fillings! We could've easily taken our business elsewhere and paid way less. We were falsely reassured a reasonable amount out of pocket, only to find out after claims were filed that we need to pay whatever absurd amount not covered by insurance! read more

My mother and I have been going to Dr. Wang since I was a teenager myself (I am 31 with my own children now). My last visit will, ultimately, be my last one as I did not have a pleasant experience. Although great work is usually performed, my issues are with the conversations that Dr. Wang chooses to have with her clients. Not only does she ask/make inappropriate questions/statements, she will do so in front of anyone in the vicinity. Pushing her Invisalign promotions on me and my husband consistently is inappropriate business. ALWAYS telling the story of how I "got scared and dropped out" of having jaw realignment surgery as a teen, to anyone who does my dental cleaning, is inappropriate. Asking me "you don't have a car by now?," is NOT her business. Asking me if I "dropped out of school" or "didn't get my college degree" because I had a child is inappropriate. Telling me that it was time for me "to find a job" after telling her I was a stay at home mother is inappropriate. Not only that, as a black woman standing in front of three Asian women, it was an embarrassing moment. As they all laughed or smiled, awaiting my response, I regrettably answered. It wasn't until I left their presence that the embarrassment washed over me. I immediately informed my husband and mother of my experience. They too, have grown exhausted with Dr. Wang's overstepping her boundaries as strictly a DENTAL PROVIDER. We are not her friends or family, we are clients and deserved to be treated as such. [Disclaimer: This review is based off my interaction with a member at this establishment, and not their dentistry work.] I called this office, in which Dr. Lisa Wang answered the phone, to ask if they accepted my insurance program and also ask for an inquiry about a hole in my tooth, which appeared after chipping it the night before my call. At first Dr. Lisa sounded very nice and accommodating, saying they would definitely be able to help me. After finding out they did not accept my program she changed her tone, telling me that what I had wasn't insurance and that they did not accept it. Now here's the real kicker - she requested that I then send her an image of my tooth so she could take a look. Well, instead of even considering further evaluation, she decides to lecture me with "How did you let it go on for that long?!", "You need to do a much better job at brushing.", "Yes you'll probably need a crown, if not a root canal, and those are very expensive!" Again, the chipped tooth happened less than 24 hours prior to this call. I found this to be very unprofessional and decided I would not be using Fine Dentistry by Design's services, so after giving Dr. Lisa thanks for the advice before hanging up, she made sure to list out all her social media and ongoing promotions before ending the call, which not only felt like a telemarketing ad, but also made it feel like she cared more about getting her name out rather than helping a potential patient. She then proceeded to text all the marketing material she mentioned (social media links, promotional photos) again, in case I didn't get it the first time... Wow, what can I say. Last year, I fell on my face in a restaurant and my front tooth completely flew out. As a young 28 year old, you can imagine I was freaking out. My confidence took a huge hit and now I was wondering what to do. I had my sister's wedding coming up in a few months and I was already feeling terrible about having to add another bill to my plate. Somehow I came across Dr.Wang on Google and saw that she specialized in implants (which I knew I needed). As you can imagine, I called to inquire and also came in the same day to see what information I could gather. Instantly, I felt welcomed by everyone in the office. Being new to the DMV, I hadn't yet established a home dental office but I had previously visited one other office nearby (which wasn't very welcoming and treated me more like a number). It was refreshing to be welcomed by the staff and also to be seen so quickly. Everyone in the office is so nice and the office is very comfortable and inviting. There's water and juice at the front of the office and you're instantly greeted by smiling faces (who continuously remember your name, quite refreshing I must say) each time you come. Dr. Wang checked on my tooth and said that the job would be a process but that she could get my tooth back. I felt so comfortable with her and her staff and didn't think twice about having them look after my tooth and help me with the implant. From there, I started to worry about the financial aspect. It's not like I had the kind of money required just laying around to cover this expense. To my surprise, they had favorable financing that works for people with good credit, mediocre credit and even bad credit. As long as you have income, something can work. Needless to say, I worked out the terms of my financing with the Office Manager and used Compassionate Finance (which is a rare offering for most dental offices) to finance the expense of my implant and other dental work. The whole process was smooth and I felt comfortable dealing with the whole staff. I regularly visited Dr. Wang at least two to three times per month from March until October to complete the implant and some other dental work. It was a long process but I knew great things take time and I was comfortable with Dr.Wang and her team every step of the way! Throughout that time, not only would Dr.Wang's staff call me to check on how I was doing but she would personally call me from her cell (one time late at night) to make sure I was okay after a procedure. Dr.Wang will regularly call or pick up the phone to call her patients - Unmatched service! I've never received this kind of service at any other office. Her and her team genuinely care. I'm not just a number or an insurance claim, I'm an actual person and that's been the best part of my experience with Dr. Wang and her team. My general sentiment is that I'm grateful for the team and as long as I live in the DMV I'll make the drive because I know I'm in good hands. Currently, I live in Annapolis and make the 45 minute drive because I'm loyal and don't want any other dentist to look after my care. It's truly a family environment and I feel that every time I come in. Thank you Dr. Wang and the entire staff at Fine Dentistry. I'm incredibly grateful and slightly emotional typing this. To be honest, I am very torn about leaving the following review. I really liked this place, but my past two visits had been nothing but highly disrespectful and nothing short of 'patient shaming' due to my insurance. My initial visit was paying entirely out of pocket for my mom because she didn't have dental insurance. During the visit, they checked my personal insurance and said they were in network and that I could get my teeth cleaning done here too. And it went downhill from here. If you really don't want me as a patient, you can tell me upfront because I have tons of other dental places to go that gladly accept my insurance and charge cheaper out-of-pocket expenses. For my first regular cleaning here, I thought it was covered by insurance, except nobody told me it was deep cleaning that requires extra UNTil THE SERVICE WAS COMPLETED. A heads-up beforehand would be nice, except there was none. After this service, I was surprised to know I have to pay 170+ out of pocket but I paid nonetheless because i was told how horrible my gums/teeth were and how bad my insurance was and how little the insurance company would pay them. Again, this is entirely between you as a provider and the insurance company, if you don't like it, don't accept it at the first place, and you made it even worse by making it feel like a patient's fault. I fell into the trap and felt guilty for my insurance making them less profitable and bought a electronic tooth brush set of 60+ from their office under pressure. The doctor agreed to not charge me next time for extra for a regular cleaning, btw, which should be covered entirely by your dental insurance anyway, but they made you feel like they were doing you a big favor. Then three months later, here I came. After the regular cleaning, i was sold an add on of fluoride (doubled the price I paid in my old dentist), then the doctor supposedly came to check my cavity and here it went again became a huge public shaming pointing to the computer and talking to her assistant about how little my insurance paid her last time and will do so this time again. And how she can't pay her assistant this little, and kept ranting about all this device to prevent the pandemic. I kept silent most of the times in my chair as she kept ranting to a 8 mos pregnant lady who was nothing but polite to her and her staff. The her assistant said I paid for the fluroride, that seemed to calm her down a little bit. And then i was told if ever wanted to come back here, I had to pay 170+ for each cleaning visit. I left speechless. I was beyond furious at this point and had to share my experience and hope I can talk some sense into you and your practice. 1. if you don't want to accept my insurance, let me know politely up-front. I am not begging you to treat me. And I paid already 170+ for my first visit, 60+ for a dental set you were trying to sell, and 60 again this time for fluoride. You don't need to shame me multiple times during different occasions and instead of your staff, and make me feel like i am the reason they don't get paid much 2. Everybody has to deal with the pandemic to keep afloat. And YOU ARE NOT THE ONLY ONE. I personally suffered great economical loss and the company I work for the same, and everyone has to chip in extra to keep others safe. THIS IS CALLED SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY, or CAPITALISM if you want to keep open. AND I AM NOT LIABLE TO FOOT THE BILL FOR THAT. 3. Bottomline, just be polite and respectful. I was VERY impressed with the staff and the dental practice. They were professional from the moment I made my first appointment on the phone, to the follow-up email I received afterwards to make sure everything was ok. Their staff was friendly and made me feel comfortable and relaxed. I was surprised to find tea and coffee in the waiting area. I'm normally very self-conscious about having bad breath for my dental visits. I decided to have their bottled water which was also available for my convenience. They had the modern equipment for taking panoramic dental x-rays which I seem to find with the better dentists. I am usually nervous during visits, but everyone was friendly and professional and put me at ease. I had a small issue with a tooth, and they were able to resolve the issue during my initial visit, painlessly and for less than what I was expecting to pay. I have been patient of Dr hokoma for long time after he sold the practice to Dr lisa wang and moved to Ca. i continue to seeing Dr lisa wang for past decade and half, at begging of her practice she was fine, but in recent years she has changed and becoming money hungry and not caring about her patient well-being,i've been seeing her twice a year,but she told me that i have to come 4 time year for dental cleaning.. my last visit for cleaning she took x ray and said i have 2 cavities and cavities are so deep you need crown on both teeth, i told that her my last visit you took x ray and CT SCAN, but did not mention anything about cavities, she said now you have cavities.i wounder in 6 months or 1 year. how could cavity gets that bad that i needed crowns on both teeth.,any way i agree to put crown on both teeth, after crown was down nightmare starts. and i had to return to see her more than 3 or 4 time because the crown was hurting me. she said needs adjustment , in april 2022 i went back and told her, i have pain and my gum got infected,she took another x-ray. now she saying i need root canal on other tooth,and she said i do not know how i missed that,,now i am talking to you Dr wang.there are two scenarios, you did not tell me about cavities when it was detected.waited until cavities get bad,or i did not need crowns,but you did it anyway,i trusted you and you took advantage of me, so you can make more money to place crown on my teeth,you also told me that, if i want you can put crown on all my teeth. that is unheard of,then i should have recognized what kind of trap i was in,but it is to late now, i hope that you enjoy several thousands of dollars. that you got from me. you lost me forever.,i would like to mention about dental hygienist MIE. she is caring and great. that is only reason i was going there ,but sorry MIE i can not come to see again because you are working for such an unethical dentist, thank you MIE read more

I recently relocated to the DC area from Texas and had yet to seek out a dentist as my teeth were running as smooth as DC traffic at 4 AM (best time to drive in this city - no traffic and the drunks are already home asleep). However, things suddenly came to a screeching halt (like when the President decided to use the Beltway in the middle of rush hour on a Wednesday evening this past November). So, as I'm relaxing with my beautiful wife and 13-month old daughter this past Sunday watching my Tony Romo-less Cowboys finally giving the Redskins a chance to beat them, my canine decided it no longer wanted to play nice. Knowing this is definitely the wrong day to have a dental emergency, I quickly Google searched dentists that would be open on Sunday in the DC area (you'll have better luck finding an open Chick-Fil-A). Low and behold, Dr. Wang's number came across my search engine. I'm like, 'No way - no one will answer on a Sunday afternoon in the DC area when the Redskins will finally beat the Cowboys after decades of losing to America's team. That's like going to the confessional booth and lying to the priest - it's sacra religious'. I dialed. I held out minimal hope. And then I got the answering machine. Womp, womp, womp. My sad face had just reached new depths. HOWEVER, at the end of the message, there was a dental emergency number to contact just in case life was over for my precious canine. My sad face was slowly showing a glimmer of life (like the night when the Redskins drafted RG3 thinking they were going to be like my Cowboys winning numerous Super Bowls during the 90's). But then it happened. Another answering machine. Womp, womp, womp. Here I am - watching my Cowboys losing, my Precious Tony Romo on the sidelines in street clothes and my canine tooth dying a miserable death (with my wife badgering me about going to law school to boot and reaching my potential). I'm like 'I'm 40, I'm a MAN! This can't be the fate of my life right now.' And then it happened. Like a miraculous light shining down from the heavens, Saint Wang (she is no longer a Dr. - she has reached levels reserved for Mother Teresa and Pope John Paul II), calls me back. On a Sunday. In the middle of a Redskins game. Where the Redskins are actually winning. Beside myself with joy, she says she will travel back from Virginia to save my canine's life and schedules an appointment immediately for the early evening. I'm shocked. Dumbfounded. And at the same time, extremely grateful. Three hours later (and after some major drilling), Saint Wang hands me a very reasonable bill as she sends me on my way with a great smile and a canine still intact (maybe she was being nice because she heard my daughter crying in the background when my wife was asking me the damages - I gotta feed my kid, ya know). Or maybe she's really just a Saint for taking time out of her day on a Sunday to help someone in a lot of pain. Either way Saint Wang, you've earned my future business and that of my daughter while we're in the area. When my wife retires from the military, I have no doubt she'll be headed your way as well. I had terrible experience at Dr. Lisa Wang office. Everything started with Dr. Wang completely refusing to talk to me. Instead she would discuss everything with her secretary/administrative assistant, and then this secretary will talk to me. That made me feel uncomfortable. Besides the way she checked my teeth with one of her instruments was absolutely careless. I've been to different dentists, that was the most painful visit ever. Finally, the "best" part was when I received possible estimate. The cost of root canal together with crown completed by Dr. Wang will cost you 3000. Average filling 400. An inlay (cap) fell off my husband's molar at lunch on the biggest holiday weekend in the U.S., July 4th! He is 85 and was quite anxious about going for several days without the cap on a large tooth. I called 4 emergency dental care numbers by 3:00 pm, and the only dentist who returned my call was Dr. Lisa Wang. She offered to see us by 4:00 at her office and was waiting when we arrived. She did a beautiful and painless job of replacing the inlay and explaining the process as she did it. We are so very grateful to her for giving up a free holiday afternoon to help a stranger. Horrible experience that I had with Dr. Lisa for my child dental work. She is extremely unprofessional person, she gives a conflict and misleading information just to charge more. I wouldn't mind to pay what ever she was asking after my insurance, if she was doing a good job on handling my baby and her crown. however she handled the filling very poorly while another additional cavity was in between the two crowns. when I change another dentist they found out on x-ray the filling is handled poorly. I really cannot speak highly enough of the service that Dr. Wang and her staff provide. My boyfriend and I were in the market for a new dentist as my old dentist office service had declined greatly. The dental hygienists and assistants here are knowledgeable and friendly. They take their time with the cleaning process and also floss your teeth for you as well. To me, they went above and beyond to make sure that we felt comfortable and enjoyed our visit. I used to dread going to the dentist but now I don't mind and even look forward to going to visit Dr. Wang. They also sent me a follow-up email after my visit to make sure everything went well. The receptionist (an Asian young man) was very nice and welcoming. The dentist (Lisa Wang) is lack of patient and experience with children even though she claimed to be a pediatric dentist. Did not know how to work with children and how to calm them down, she was threatening to leave the room and give up on treating my child because she was simply scared. She was yelling at her assistant (the male receptionist) in front of us during the procedure. She promised a free consultation but ended up billing us! What a scam! I called her office to verify that they accepted my insurance and they assured me they did. I went in for my first check up and she recommended that I get a tooth pulled as well as a crown. After the procedure I looked at the bill and I had to pay far more than what my insurance would usually cover. At this point she admitted that she was NOT IN MY INSURANCE"S NETWORK. I confronted her and her response was that even though she's not in the network, my insurance still covered part of it. (This is true, but I had to pay a lot more money) Later on my insurance would inform me that they will NOT be paying for the Crown as their review of the case indicated that the crown was not the optimal procedure to use on the tooth. Overall the Dr. Lisa's dishonesty cost me a lot of money. PLEASE DON"T TAKE HER WORD AND DOUBLE CHECK YOUR INSURANCE. read more

Very greedy and dishonest Lisa Wang! She told me they accepted my insurance plan when I gave them my insurance card, and when I checked out after surgery, she said my insurance company was "special" and would need me to pay first and later get reimbursement. She then continued to urge me to set up another appointment for some surgery because my teeth was "bad". When I went back for the second time and I realized something was wrong and figured they were actually OUT OF NETWORK. I confronted with her, and Lisa Wang went super nasty and asked me to leave immediately. The surgery cost me $1500 just because it was out of network, it could have been cost me less than half of that price otherwise. Now I have been with my new dentist for one year and was never told I need another surgery as Lisa said. read more

Dr Lisa Wang and her team are very professional. They took care of all the paper work and communicated with my insurance and made sure to keep me always informed about what to expect out of pocket. I have done cleaning, cavity treatment and i have been impressed with the results. The Dr takes as much time with you as you need and you never feel you are being rushed.She makes sure she has enough time between patients. I have done a wisdom tooth extraction and the Dr her self called me to check on me and make sure i am ok. I have always received reminders for my appointments When you have an appointment at a certain time, you get seen straight away at that time. The whole team is very friendly and helpful. I am doing a Crown with her now and i will let you know how that goes once i get it installed. I would rate Fine dentistry by Design 5 stars and i would certainly recommend it. They made the whole dentist experience an easy process and i actually like going to the dentist now. read more

I wanted to provide an update to my review after having a difficult, partially erupted wisdom tooth extracted today. As always Dr. Wang kept me calm and talked me through the whole thing. It didn't hurt a bit beyond the normal pressure you feel. As far as the negative review regarding what insurance she takes, it is the patient's responsibility to call the insurance carrier to make sure the practice is in your network. She's the most confidence-inspiring dentist I've seen in years! Super nice and professional, with a great staff and facilities. Instead of driving to Baltimore, I decided to see a local dentist just for a filling for a small crack. The tooth had been xrayed last year and is fine. I just didn't want the crack to spread. I had no pain prior to the appointment. She drilled out the entire center of the tooth and claimed i probably needed a crown. Huh? What happened? My teeth are clean and healthy. I take very good care of them. I see the dentist annually. I opted for the filling instead. Which is all I needed. She became antagonistic. Then afterwards said I would very likely have pain/sensativity for 2 months. What! I had no pain before I went in. I won't be going back there ever again read more

My family has been going to Dr. Wang for at least 7 years now. We left because we moved and then we decided to come back because of Dr. Wang and her staff. The drive is well worth the wonderful treatment and service that we receive. read more
