OMG. What a fantastic meal. Our server, Julia, was delightful and we had a lovely romantic table for the two at the end of the banquette. Started with broccolini, which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Then the heirloom tomato salad with a vinaigrette I wanted to drink it was so delicious. Hubby had the juicy and tender chicken, which was packed with an array of compatible flavors. I thought he might lick the plate. My mushroom gnocchi was fab- quite a variety of mushrooms include and clearly homemade gnocchi. If we were locals I would've coveted having some leftovers. Enjoyed everything about this NYE experience! The chef did a great job with the NYE menu. Excellent choices and my husband and I chose opposite items except when it came to the Halibut (we both wanted it). The service and ambiance were fantastic. We also did the wine pairing with the meal. To tie a fantastic night together in a bow, we also made it to HR...their speakeasy - and had a couple of drinks there before ringing in 2026. We loved our experience at FinePrint. On the day of our reservation, there was a severe thunderstorm, and the restaurant kindly called ahead of to let us know the patio would be closed for the night. I appreciated the heads-up call. When we arrived, we were greeted with a warm welcome. We ordered two drinks and three dishes. I especially enjoyed the food even more than the drinks. The beet salad had a yummy sweet dressing, and the bison tartare was incredible with the brioche. The lobster risotto? Omg, amazing! Hands down the best risotto I've had in my life. The mayor, her bodyguards were enjoying a delicious meal at a booth behind us. All the while Jay and Martin treated us to elevated dining on Stephen Street. Coming from LA and OC, we were hoping for the intermingling of flavors when going into a fine dining establishment. We were blown away. Decor and front service were kind at first sight. We were treated to a comfortable booth seating that we we exchanged to a beautiful marble bar-top seating. Menus are meticulously simple as the options are on one page, yet the details are in depth to fill out the long decorated menu on the clean wooden plank. Beet salad? If you're looking for a solidly good meal, in a swanky ambience, with attentive, friendly service then FinePrint is your spot. I highly recommend trying the tempura green beans - they are addictive - and the bison tartare. They were my two favorite dishes of the night. I also appreciated the potato puree the chicken supreme was served on, but found my actual chicken to be a bit on the dry side. I would go for the duck next time. FinePrint's bread service has changed and my colleague who has dined many times before said she missed the old bread service. Tonight's milk bread was nothing to write home about. I believe any bread you have to pay for should be out of this world. Finally, any restaurant with an interesting zero proof cocktail menu deserves special recognition and FinePrint did not disappoint. Loved the outdoor cafe venue and service from friendly, helpful Bella. Happy hour menu included wonderful cheese puffs, fried green beans, and deviled eggs. Bella's accurate description of beef tartar compelled us to order and it was every bit as tasty as promised. We tabled on the cafe sidewalk which entertained us with throngs from the Calgary Stampede. Great ambience. The kitchen is S-L-O-W. I think food and service were great. Roasted Brussel sprouts was delicious! It was so much as a starter but I finished it all not even knowing. Salmon was cooked perfectly. Crispy skin. The sauce is a bit bland for me. Couldn't even finish the dish because I was so full from the starter. Coconut panna cotta was so light and not too sweet. I ordered a mock tail but don't remember the name. It was ginger beer with some pineapple juice. It was good. Service was great. Server was attentive. read more

It's something refreshing that's been missing from the downtown core for a long time ... we left saying that was some of the best tasting food we've ever had. Highly recommend the beef tartar, and scallops for starters... & the seared salmon and braised lamb for dinner were delicious - such great flavour! What made it even better was the chef looked after us and made the meals milk & gluten free and they still tasted amazing! Comfortable upscale restaurant on Steven Ave near Centre St. Menu has a good selection of appetizers and main dishes. Good cocktail and wine list. Service is attentive and helpful. We enjoyed the dishes we tried. Not sure about making it a regular place but it would be a nice choice for an evening out. read more

Speaking as the editor in chief of the first Modernist Cuisine cookbook, I can wholeheartedly recommend FinePrint. The Josper Roasted Sablefish, cleverly braised in a thin wrap of cabbage concealing a brilliant green puree of Swiss chard, accompanied by torch-toasted mandarin orange segments and miso butter, and artfully plated, would be at home among the recipes in MC Volume 5. FinePrint's London Free Press and Hot Topic drinks were original and perfectly balanced. Service was attentive and informative. And the location, situated in the former newsroom of the Calgary Herald newspaper and infused with a journalism theme, adds a nice touch of history without going overboard into nostalgia. I took my wife out for her birthday dinner recently last night at Fine Print. The restaurant was informed it was her birthday dinner. I know in these inflationary times bread has been removed from many menus, but at a pricey joint like this, it would have been nice to wipe up some of the sauces and separate our pallets between courses. We ordered each course one at a time, which was nice, the kitchen responding on a timely basis. Many problems we had stemmed from a pretentious attitude. For example, we asked about substituting a disliked vegetable (green beans!) accompanying the Sable Fish entrée with another, but was told the chef made unchangeable pairings. The music being played was also very annoying: EDM (electronic dance music) which I believe is not suitable to a fine (and slow) dining experience. The manager corrected me that FP was actually a casual dining restaurant, as if that allowed the poor choice in music, but that they might consider a musical genre change in the future. The price for the evening was about $250 including tip, a not inexpensive night out. Price of some items were quite reasonable: the Brussel sprouts and pea soup, which were both tasty, to pricey: three scallops which had a fishy smell. For entrees, we had the salmon which was fine and the chicken, which was tiny (a thigh and bit of breast,) over cooked, bland and cold overall. Dishes do come with vegetable and carb sides which is a plus. We sat at the low tables in the back with most of the other evenings diners. My wife's birthday was never acknowledged. So, overall, a disappointment from one of the newest restaurants in the Calgary food scene located in the nicely refreshed old Divino haunts. I expect to be treated well, my reasonable wishes accommodated and not to be condescended to. read more

Outdoor seating was nice, and our server was great. All of the other food we ordered was pretty good, especially the duck confit and deviled eggs, but the ribeye steak was poorly cooked. We asked for it medium rare, but they sent it out medium well. We had it sent back and they brought us a good sear but rare ahi tuna-looking steak. We sent it back again, and it came back medium well once more. At that point, we didn't bother sending it back anymore and just wanted to leave. When we went inside to use the restroom, we overheard the chefs complaining about the customer who returned the steak twice. It's worth mentioning that it took them 35 minutes to send the steaks out. This place is pretty decent, but I would advise against ordering the steak. read more

Received a gift card for this restaurant. Very unfortunate they have had a fire. Had a dinner reservation for birthday. The same owner owns Brigg's but will not honour the gift card...strange when they own both restaurants. read more
