Murrietta's is a steak and seafood restaurant in downtown Calgary not to far from the Stampede grounds. It offers an upscale atmosphere making it a nice place for business meetings. The food is terrific for groups of four, but I found twice that they have trouble with the timing and temperature of the meet when I come here with seven or more. That's not unusual at a restaurant but it takes them down from a five to a four. The restaurant as a good wine selection and a better whiskey bar. Prices are all reasonable. There is a patio deck overlooking the street that I would like to try some day.

Seared Hokkaido scallops with green pea risotto and cauliflower

Did the YYC Expo food menu at Murrieta's. The food gastronomy experience was phenomenal. It was a 4 course meal with 2 options on the 3&4 courses. The seared Hokkaido Scallops in the green pea risotto with cauliflower was amazing. To top things off the dessert (4th course) sealed the deal which was salted caramel cheesecake with dark chocolate and sponge toffee. The staff were all great and the service was excellent. We will be back for a regular meal in the near future!!! Top Shelf!!!

Great atmosphere, great location and great tasting food at a reasonable price. I came here mainly for their steak. It came with seasonal vegetables with either fries or mashed potatoes. After asking if I can have half mashed half fries along with the vegetables, they happily said "of course!". The presentation of the meal was great. The steak was not pre-cut, allowing all the juices to remain inside rather than pouring all over the fries/mashed potato. Not much to say about the fries as they are usually great everywhere. The mashed potato was delicious. It was not overly buttery and was seasoned perfectly. The green beans were cooked to my liking, with a slight crunch. The corn had a nice char to it and tasted like it was cooked on a bbq which paired beautifully with the steak. Finally, as for the steak, it was delicious and cooked perfectly. I requested it be cooked medium-rare and I was far from disappointed. The slight seasoning on it was delicious. I would definitely recommend this dish. Overall, I would definitely go back with at least a few people to share some of their appetizers during their happy hour special. I was advised that they were all half off (apart from one dish). Also, some alcoholic beverage options were priced at $5, which I indulged in (the merlot paired great with the steak!).

One of the best meals I have had in the past few years. For some reason I wasn't expecting to love this place and it totally won me over. The interior is expansive with natural light (reminds me of Mescelaro's for those who remember that 1st St gem). The outside patio overlooks Stephen Ave and offers beautiful views and people observing. But, the food! Our (skilled and friendly) server offered recco's that delivered. My steak sandwich melted in my mouth and the sauce with mushrooms is a taste I still dream about. The fish taco's were deliciously spicy...crunchy and soft in all the right places. One teensy curiosity? My sparkling water out-priced the wine my companion ordered.

I quite enjoyed this restaurant for lunch. Service was excellent. Kudos to Vanessa and Stephanie. We had to get in and out and Vanessa swooped in and got our orders up. Food was very good. Cobb salad was lovely with bacon, butter lettuce, avocado, tomatoes, cucumber, blue cheese, drizzled with pesto dressing. My friend loved her lamb meatball pasta. The steak sandwiches looked good but were overcooked. Stephanie offered to get us new steaks but we were fine with it. The steaks were still tender. She offered us complimentary dessert to make up for it, which was a nice touch. I look forward to coming here for lunch, happy hour and dinner. The prices are reasonable, particularly in light of the superior service and gorgeous venue.

The restaurant is upstairs with a glass ceiling which is very pretty. They play the best 80s music ever. We started with the three dip and lamb meatballs. The hummus was bland but the olive tapenade was better. I didn't try the lamb meatballs but heard they were good. For dinner I had the penne turkey bolognese and it was just ok. It lacked seasoning and came across as basic. For dessert I had the apple tart with vanilla bean gelato. The crust of the tart and the vanilla bean gelato were perfect together. Not too sweet, a good balance. The apples were unfortunately undercooked and had this almost bitter taste that was inconsistent by the bite and a bit overwhelming which turned out to be cardamom in addition to cinnamon. Overall the meal was underwhelming but definitely edible (except for the apples). The only other point I will note is that a person at our table ordered a steak medium-well and the waiter challenged her. It made her feel like she couldn't have what she wanted so she changed her order (then didn't eat her meal). The assumption that the waiter knows more about how the guest would like her meat cooked is ridiculous and insulting. He mentioned the preferred style was medium rare and that's fine but the commentary should end there. Especially when the guest is from Texas. I assure you, we know how we like our meat. According to CNN Travel, our state houses two of the best cities in the country to get steak (Austin-4 and Fort Worth-11). In addition, our country is second to Australia for the most red meat consumption. Know your diners before you try to school them!

Lovely pours of interesting wines, fine specialty cocktails, a bunch of shared plates that included flatbreads, olives, charcuterie, cheese and ultimately a couple of dozen oysters that disappeared almost before the server was able to make it back to the kitchen. What's more to like? Especially nice touches on the oysters that sat on a bed of sea salt with toppings available that included fermented horseradish, a nicely seasoned jalapeno puree and a red wine reduction to perk up the briny little invertebrates. Yum. We did not mess around, spared no overindulgences (burp) and still barely managed to spend $300. Yes, that's a lot of money, but when something is this well put together, very well worth the price in my opinion. And when you're spending that much, any sin gets pointed out in great detail. No such issue. Love to return here and concur with fellow Yelpers the strong rating for this venue. Highly recommended.

We were greeted by a group of bartenders (who all happened to be wearing toques) when we walked in, and I felt both welcomed and slightly out of place (no toque). The cocktails were meticulously crafted--priced at $15-20 a drink, it's on par with bigger cities like Vancouver and Toronto, but they also live up to the standard. Honestly, the highlight of our visit to Missy's was the Missy's This That charcuterie board. Each piece of cured meat was sliced impossibly thin, the olives were meaty and delicious, and the cheeses were carefully selected to complement everything. I loved that it also came with a side of thick cut bread and pickled vegetables. One of the best charcuterie boards I've had at a restaurant for sure. Not cheap but worth the pretty penny on a slightly fancy night out.

The oyster of the week were the Melpeque's which starts off salty, but compensates the saline flavor with a boom of sea mineral richness. Eventually, they sat us in a booth in the main dining area but it was touch and go in the beginning. Not a great impression. Our server mentioned to us that he was new. We found him very friendly and knowledgeable. We came here for the oysters - we ordered 1 Irish Point, 1 Fanny Bay and 2 Malpeque (I wanted to try one). The Malpeque also was the feature Oyster which means they are $1.50 each. I don't usually eat oysters but thought it was good. My wife says the Irish Point and Fanny Bay were good.
