We have gone here for years, at both the old and new location. They always have food, friendly service and all the ambiance we need.

Don't overlook this place because of what appears to be its small size from the outside. The service is consistently friendly and prompt. The owner is almost always on scene and accessible. Have never had a bad meal. Live music a few times a week. If comfort food could exist as a restaurant this would be the place. read more

Really like this spot. Comfy booth seating. Very nice, attentive staff. Good prices. We stopped in after lunch to visit w/friends we haven't seen in a while. Only had a couple of drinks, no food. They are celebrating their 25 anniversary and they are duly decorated. Had the fish and chips and it didn't disappoint. it was terrific! A HUGE piece of fish delicately fried, moist and very tasty. it was so large the fries didn't get the attention from me as they usually do. the waitress hustled to insure everything came out hot. We love Finnegan's Wake and the entire staff that works here!!! I have been here with friends many times and love the Cranberry and Walnut Salad with Apple Cidar Vinaigrette dressing and goat cheese- and have added chicken or other proteins. Despite dieting, they have the most amazing homeade corn bread! (Not to be missed warm out of the oven) :) I have purchased meals for the Police department at Christmas and Easter and the owner has always helped me carry bags to my car. The restaurant is always busy and has a great following. The menu is extensive and has pretty much anything that you could ask for along with specials. I had THE BEST fried eggplant I've ever had in my very long life this past weekend! I love fried eggplant but detest frying it. I adore caprese, but was skeptical about the quality of tomatoes in December. Well - the Eggplant Caprese Salad was spectacular!! The eggplant slices were huge, plentiful and perfectly breaded and fried! The tomatoes had flavor that was augmented by the balsamic glaze. I couldn't finish the serving since it was so generous! This place is awesome. A few years back I went to the original location, but since then they had to move due to residential development. The staff is very polite and make sure to take care of all of your needs. Which is nice if you are an out of towner, very hospitable. And the owner Tommy, absolute great guy! The drinks were good and poured better than most places, but hey, it's a neighborhood tavern so you expect a decent pour. Every food option I tried was done perfect. As simple as the Poutine is, it's a must order! I will make sure to come back to this spot every time I'm in Walpole! read more

The reason I'm giving this a 3 star is because the older stocky bartender, who was working 10/16 was miserable. He was so unprofessional, we almost got up and left. We played Keno, ordering our first drink. My bf made an innocent mistake, playing 2 numbers but scratching 3 I joked and said to my bf ... You are not playing anymore Bartender looked and said mean"GOOD" Well we did play again and he walked by our ticket and money 5 times, until our table was called and I picked it back up and didn't play it While I was walking out, I ran into a girl from Walpole and said, Wow, that bartender is miserable huh She said, He always is Advice~maybe they should think about hiring somebody with a better personality that likes people. I have been coming here and love the food but tonight the take out was charred and black. I ordered the caprese sandwich with fried eggplant. It was so black I couldn't eat it. I also got Tots and they were burnt also. Very disappointed in the food but love the outdoor space. read more

I just got take out from this place, and most certainly not be returning! We got a pizza, nachos, fries, steak, fish and chips and and salad. The pizza was burnt and tasted horrible! The nachos weren't nachos!!!! They were chips with fried cheese and we asked for toppings such as salsa and sour cream but they put none of that in there! And they were cooked to the parchment paper! I will put a picture down below! The meals didn't come with many fries, and the fries were extremely soggy! The fish was good but didn't come with tarter sauce and onion rings even though we ordered them. The steak and salad was good though, and that's the only reason I'm even giving this place 2 stars! Joyce would be proud. A true Irish pub owned by a true Irish man. The owner Kirwin's Kitchen traded up for a pub and went straight for authenticity and created an establishment you are far more likely to find the counterpart to in Ireland than one of those with shamrocks and fancy brass tap towers. Finnegan's is clean, tasty, and understated. You are lucky this place has a sign, because that is about the only outward indication that there is a restaurant. It is in the basement in what was once the Rebel (a towny place that I had many meals in as a child.) You have to go down a one way side street that looks like an alley from downtown Walpole. Having grown up in the town, I sasdly can only say to aim between what used to be Bank Boston and what used to be the downtown video store. I think now it is Bank of America and a tuxedo shop? Anyway, on to the review. If you find it, you will find: Reasonably priced Guinness Very good tasting cottage pie, bangers and mash, and Guinness pie A delectable assortment of utilitarian pub food Pretty good service, though not very quick with the check it seems A good place to go for dinner or for your last drink of the night (I wouldn't go to any other bar downtown. On second thought, what are you doing in downtown Walpole for your last drink of the night? If you aren't home by closing hour then you should probably be in some other downtown.) Just because you have to know where this place is to find it doesn't mean it won't be crowded. Anyone that grew up in the town will know where it is, so St. Patrick's day and comedy night is sure to be busy. I don't remember when comedy nights are... but I know they exist. It IS on a one way alley in what looks like an industrial type warehouse from the outside. Some friends who drive by that street everyday for work never knew this place was there. But when you open that first door, and are then transported to a magical land straight from an Irish lullaby, you will forever remember its location. Tall ceilings, friendly staff and a great karaoke DJ when I was there. Very spacious for what I was expecting. Even the owner sang a song and a great time was had by all. Prices were on the cheaper side too, and I hear their food is great! My only qualm was the heat was on full blast for some reason. Poor DJ's had to sit right under a couple of the vents also. If the temp was turned down a bit, and the bartender gave me her number, it would of been a five star experience! read more

I've been going to Finnegan's since the day they opened over a decade ago and they have certainly become an institution in the Walpole. The atmosphere might not be spectacular, but it is certainly an authentic Irish restaurant. The food (burgers and fries in particular) is always delicious. The staff is friendly and the owners are great. The bartenders here have introduced me to all sorts of different drinks literally since the day I turned 21. Finnegan's is also a great establishment for the Walpole community. They support all things local and truly understand what it means to give back. A trip to Walpole would not be complete without a trip to Finnegan's Wake. read more

Great Irish pub atmosphere (kinda dark and moody) with many of the patrons straight from Galloway and speaking with an awesome Irish brogue :) Get the Shepard's Pie! Enough for two and soooo good. It takes about 25 minutes to prepare so have a pint while you wait. Also, their corn bread is to-die-for and better than any TexMex, rib joint or Mexican restaurant! But you have to ask for it. Everything we've ever ordered has been delicious and all reasonably priced. They have some great bands, too, on some weekends. read more

I really like this place. A lot of the Irish pubs are going downhill and out of business but this one deserves to stay. Everyone in my family can find something good here and I do too, even though I'm a vegetarian. They have good nachos (not authentic, but hey) and good basics like burgers and shepards pie. They also have good seafood specials. Everyone is really friendly here too. It's clean and there is plenty of parking. read more

We have enjoyed many meals at Finnegan's. We will sit in the restaurant or at the bar, with and without our grown children. The bar staff and waitstaff are pleasant and thorough. On valentine's day, we stopped in for a quick bite after a long day at the hospital and were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant had a special Valentine's day menu for two; see the picture below. I was aware that the pub had moved, and popped in to try. I sat at the bar. The bartender was professional and very nice. It was an early evening, so the crowd was slim. I ordered 2 pints and a tuna melt. Very tasty. But the fries were the same frozen, coated fries as your neighbor's pub. Having dined in many a West Cork pub, and cooked in a few Boston restaurants myself, I have a few suggestions: Hand cut the fries, skins intact, just sea salt. It would separate you and be true to the potato. Grill a nice slice of tomato for the sandwich as well. You've avoided the mail-order pub route, but you need some family portraits, horse racing forms, actual landscape paintings. Not purchased junk. The real thing. A road sign in Irish. Finnegans is an excellent goto pub in Walpole. I have been coming here for years, when I lived in Walpole and still as a resident of another town! The food is good. They serve a little bit of everything. I have to say they have a very competitive nacho platter. I also love their salads and there is a pesto chicken panini that's fab. The owners are the nicest people on earth. They do so much for the people of Walpole and always try to satisfy the unhappy customer. read more

Nice refresh of a longtime local restaurant. The new location is nicely decorated and feels like an authentic pub. We enjoyed lunch midweek. Reubens and fish and chips preceded by homemade corn bread. Everything was nicely fried and not greasy. Our waitress was prompt and friendly. Consider this a solid option. read more

This is our second time to the new location. Food was good and brought out in a reasonable time frame. Waitress were okay. Never asked how our food was and took a while to get out check. My kids received fresh baked cookies as part of their kids meal on our first visit. Now, they handout little Debbie prepackaged cookies with sugar frosting in the middle. Don't let the small storefront fool you. Its like stepping into a TARDIS to find a full sized charming Irish Restaurant inside complete with friendly staff. Yummy cornbread was provided at the start. We got the Bangers and Mash and Shepherd's Pie. Both were fantastic, much more quality and quantity than we expected for the prices. First I'd like to say this place was great when they were in their old location. I had heard they had gone downhill since they moved but I wanted to try for myself. The service was very slow although the restaurant wasn't busy. The food was mediocre and we knew at that point we wouldn't be returning. Then it got worse. I had my debit card out on the table and the server came over and grabbed it - without giving me the bill! She brought it back for signature but of course that's not the detailed receipt so I have no idea if I even paid the right bill. I couldn't be bothered at that point and was eager to leave. About 6 hours later my friend (who had the burger), was violently ill. Never again... read more
