To get to the historic house, I had to drive past the quaint Milan town square, which in itself seems to be a genuine piece of Americana. The house and adjacent museum visitor center are located near the top of a hill. They overlook what is now a defunct historic canal. Inside the visitors center, there is an impressive collection of Edison's audio inventions - many that still work! Inside the house are several artifacts owned by the Edisons, as well as other period-correct pieces. A few of Thomas Edison's personal items are even on display upstairs. Deb enthusiastically painted a vivid picture of how life was in the Edison house. She explained how many of the artifacts were used. The "school teacher" in her certainly came out, as she encouraged questions. The house is conveniently located only a few miles from the Ohio turnpike. I highly recommend experiencing this interesting and informative, historic gem.

That said, it impressed me even then with its combo stylishness/slyness. It's not enough to just scream and pop out. That's cheap. You have to be creative and use standard props in an interesting way. Hauntville did and does this. I visited them this Halloween season in the Elyria location and despite being woefully understaffed the creativity remained in high order. one of the most interesting psychological elements was in the Prison house. Not to spoil the surprise but the Warden character (good actor, btw) was always in an "elevated state," making the customer feel more helpless. Little atmospheric touches like this abound, especially in the succinct but suspenseful "Unknown" pitch black maze with multiple awesome "fun house" elements mixed in. Hauntville has HIDDEN RIDES within a few rooms. So fun. AND more BIG HEAD PUPPETS than any other haunt which are more customizable than animatronics, especially when the actors are strong and they are here. You can tell they care. Most of them could improv for days, especially the ticket taker at the Haunted Bayoo/Shanty house. (How many people can riff about "sister-cousins" breathlessly for ten mins straight?) The Sko has been there for me through thick and thin. Pop night, Britney blaring - it was there. On…read morenights when I craved drama and the sight of drunk sweaty bodies, making out in packs - it was there. On nights when I craved butt rock - it was there. On nights when I wanted to just hang and play casual pool- it was there. Stumbling in after fourth meal; a good dose of quarter beers was always the perfect serenade or secret recipe for a useful break from studying. I miss the days when the DJ was never too cool to play your requested song. I miss PBR. I miss smelling like it after some guy, in attempting to score, doused it all over me. I miss scoring beer as a freshman. Of being a senior and scoring it for the under 21's., I miss losing a million and half things at the sko. I miss the townies, that would purposely bump into you. I miss the cage. I miss the Ricks, the Johns, and the Brads. I miss seeing half naked people crammed into the Sko, corsets, and thigh-highs in abundance. I miss it all. The hang-overs, the spills, the come-ons, and the hook-ups. The Sko is also home to some of the best concerts I have seen in awhile. It hosted amazing acts and for stellar prices- that still have me kicking myself as I throw out 20 dollars to see Eek a Mouse or the Black Keys here in SF. It's an Oberlin landmark.

And the club's official name is The Dionysus Disco but everyone calls it the 'Sco, and when I first got here, I was rather confused. It has a nice bar, with many wooden stools, and gives you the best view of the stage (this club isn't very big, so even if you sit by the bar, you have a great view of the stage). I got here rather early (an hour before the show started), and was able to loiter by the bar, have a few beers, and chat with the locals. They have 3 beers on tap: PBR, Great Lakes Dortnunder, and Rogue Dead Guy Ale. Since I didn't know if I would be back in this neck of the woods again, I tried the GLD, and did not regret it. Beer the way I like it: on tap, light, flavourful! But what really impressed me was the $1 PBR. You really can't top that price! They also had a huge selection of bottled beers, and also big beers including Avery The Reverend. I had a sip and wow it had a great hopping aftertaste and a 10% ABV. Needless to say, by the end of the night. my friends were pretty drunk. Well maintained…read more This is still a great park to visit anytime of the year. Easy, paved walking trail. Always something in bloom or plants to see no matter what time of the year. They have 2 bathrooms for taking children when waking the trail that are both clean. Great play area for kids. Small playground, maze and a rock climbing area.
