TLDR; cozy ambiance with lots of interior seating but my latte was far too milky a super cute cafe near oberlin college. upon entering, the lighting and seating had a cozy ambiance and most customers are students grabbing coffee before class or sitting at the cafe to study. i read that slow train and the local were the most popular cafes in town, and opted for slow train due to better lighting. ordered at the kiosk and my drink came out in less than 10 minutes. // iced lavender latte, 16 oz ($5.50) // i got the iced lavender latte with the default whole milk. in hindsight i should have gotten skim milk or asked for lighter milk because my drink was very milky. the lavender flavor was fragant but a bit subtle. however, the espresso flavor was not strong and it mainly tasted like milk. a little disappointed given the high reviews, but the atmosphere and people were nice. a little dim though if you're trying to read or study with physical books.

A great place for coffee. It's also for a vegan pastry. Slow Train Cafe may imply a laid back atmosphere. For the most part this is the how it is. The service is prompt thankfully. By far the most important thing here is coffee. Good thing it's really good. The prices aren't that bad despite being in a hip college town. It's about $2 for a medium drip coffee. The pastries are good too. It has several vegan kinds. The last time they had a vegan jumbo power muffin. The pastries usually are about $2 to $3 depending on what kind you get, and they also have a few sandwiches. It cares much about the environment. It won't provide plastic stirrers. You can get a metal one that you can keep and bring it back with you.

Only came in for a drink but had a positive experience. I'm very picky about my chai -- i would give theirs a 7/10. I liked the spice levels but it tasted a little burnt. My fiancé ordered french press and loved it. Staff was polite and everything seemed very clean. Lots of seating!

I am not a fan of coffee, but I am a sucker for good hot chocolate or chai tea. My friends and I stopped here on our lunch break today. I got a hot chocolate and a cinnamon poptart. The poptart was amazing! I really wanted another one, it was that good. I have also had their chocolate chip cookies before which are the best. They aren't allowing guests to dine in currently, but it was nice to get a sweet treat to take back to work.

Cute place within perfect walking distance from The Hotel at Oberlin! I got an iced dirty chai and an everything bagel with cream cheese. It was fairly priced and decently quick!

Inexpensive, delicious coffee products. A warm, relaxed atmosphere. Helpful, attentive service. These are some of the few qualities of Slow Train that make it such a great place to spend an hour, an afternoon, or an entire semester. Ample seating and free wireless access make for a great study environment, or just a place to meet friends and chat. The live entertainment on weekends is superb. In short, there is no better place to be in Oberlin if you are looking for coffee, entertainment, or new people.

The coffee was good as was the service but it was a little pricey and compared to the other coffee place in town, the vibe was bland.

Very good drinks but hit or miss food as far as non-pastries are concerned. Bagels are sometimes slightly stale.

Service can be slow only because there always seems to be a line. Coffee and pastries are excellent.

I got a 12 oz latte with added house-made vanilla and lavender syrups, which was totally delicious, with just the right amount of flavor.

Stumbling in after fourth meal; a good dose of quarter beers was always the perfect serenade or secret recipe for a useful break from studying. I miss the days when the DJ was never too cool to play your requested song. I miss PBR. I miss smelling like it after some guy, in attempting to score, doused it all over me. I miss scoring beer as a freshman. Of being a senior and scoring it for the under 21's., I miss losing a million and half things at the sko. I miss the townies, that would purposely bump into you. I miss the cage. I miss the Ricks, the Johns, and the Brads. I miss seeing half naked people crammed into the Sko, corsets, and thigh-highs in abundance. I miss it all. The hang-overs, the spills, the come-ons, and the hook-ups. The Sko is also home to some of the best concerts I have seen in awhile. It hosted amazing acts and for stellar prices- that still have me kicking myself as I throw out 20 dollars to see Eek a Mouse or the Black Keys here in SF. It's an Oberlin landmark.

And the club's official name is The Dionysus Disco but everyone calls it the 'Sco, and when I first got here, I was rather confused. It has a nice bar, with many wooden stools, and gives you the best view of the stage (this club isn't very big, so even if you sit by the bar, you have a great view of the stage). I got here rather early (an hour before the show started), and was able to loiter by the bar, have a few beers, and chat with the locals. They have 3 beers on tap: PBR, Great Lakes Dortnunder, and Rogue Dead Guy Ale. Since I didn't know if I would be back in this neck of the woods again, I tried the GLD, and did not regret it. Beer the way I like it: on tap, light, flavourful! But what really impressed me was the $1 PBR. You really can't top that price! They also had a huge selection of bottled beers, and also big beers including Avery The Reverend. I had a sip and wow it had a great hopping aftertaste and a 10% ABV. Needless to say, by the end of the night. my friends were pretty drunk. If I had gone to college here, I would be a barfly at the 'Sco! http://www.averybrewing.com/ http://www.oberlin.edu/stuorg/sco/home.html

I reached out to the place ahead of time because I saw on their website. They have a VIP section that you can reserve ahead of time for 100 bucks so I did that. Chris, the manager, was super helpful via text Message in helping me plan the evening. Their drinks were reasonable and the space was perfect for listening to this band. Food wise it's a challenge. The bar doesn't have a kitchen, rather they rely on sweet basil to deliver food next-door. Sweet basil has wonderful pizza and food however, on a Saturday night they closed at 8 PM. That's not the bar's fault, but it's something to be aware of if you plan on going to eat there.

However, they had packed so many people into this bar that we could barely enter the door. Moving from one side of the bar to the other, we had to weave in and out, shoulder to shoulder, and could barely move. I would have liked to have stayed, but there was no way I was going to enjoy myself being that packed in. I fully believe that the bar was at full capacity or possibly over which isn't safe. They do have a large parking lot, but it was over full as well. I would give this place another try, on a different night. The crowd was mainly people in their 50s and 60s, but that was probably because of the type of band that was playing that night. I didn't get a drink, because I couldn't even get to the bar. We stayed about 15 to 20 minutes.
