Today we tried Chunky Monkeys Cafe at Charlie's Theatre & Bar, tucked away in the courtyard, for the first time. I was with my two little ones and a friend with her little one. We had coffees and cakes, and they were really lovely. I especially loved the rich, velvety chocolate and seville orange cake slice, as did my 3 year old! Next time I am at Mugdock, I would definitely visit here for lunch. They have a lovely menu of sandwiches, paninis, bagels and flatbreads with a great range of delicious sounding fillings to choose from. They also do a little kids meal deal which is good value at £3.50 for a drink, sandwich and crisps. The seating area is cosy and comfortable with plenty of space and a good number of highchairs available. There are also little nooks with child-sized sofas for your little ones to explore. I can't believe I haven't found this little gem earlier, and am looking forward to my next visit already!

Non of us could fault our food all very tasty plates which included Nacho chicken panini, ham and lentil soup, chicken mayo sandwich, haggis and cheese sandwich and cheddar and chutney sandwich. All sandwiches came with either crisps or salad and the soup had plenty of fresh bread on the side. A selection of drinks from hot chocolate, coffee, chocolate milkshake and tea was lovely too. As always the stroll around the farm shop afterwards is always full of lovely local produce and I always find something tasty to buy :-)

A lovely 30 minute drive from my flat brought me here, through a lot of twisty-roads and beautiful country. On arrival, we got given the ugly duckling table of the place, ie not by the window. But after a group left managed to secure ourselves a few of the rolling hills and torrential rain. The menu is great, with a huge variety and GF/veggie options. I had the seafood platter which was huge, as in I struggled to finish it. (Obviously did). No half-portions here, 5 or 6 prawns, a huge helping of salmon, same with the mackerel pate and some incredible oatcakes with salad and dressing. The Dear Green coffee was bitter and black and just how I like it. My heart did want the Salted Caramel Cake with popcorn but it looked slightly too sickly. I opted for a classic brownie and was not disappointed. My friend's meringue with fruit compote and cream was mammoth! Well worth a drive, you can pre-book tables which I would definitely advise. This location is a little easier to get to as it's situated in Killearn town hall. Arriving at just before 2, the immediately obvious difference between the 2 locations was that this is much busier than Quarriers. The place was mainly occupied by the lunching ladies of sub-suburbia, save for the odd lunching worker/working luncher. Due to the lunchtime rush the staff seemed to be a wee bit stretched, (the poor folk next to me had to ask for a latte a couple of times before the server came back to say she'd forgotten what they'd asked for), but thankfully I had no problems with the service. I had the tasting platter at the Quarriers location, so of course I ordered it again (after all it was tasty!). When it came out it looked the same, but somehow it was lacking some of its previous magic. Of course I couldn't leave without trying one of their amazing looking cakes from the counter, I went with the flourless tangerine cake (yes it is GF), which was fragrant and not too dry, it had a texture not totally dissimilar to polenta cake. Now it maybe second season syndrome or it could just be a matter of over familiarity, but there does seem to be something missing from Quarriers in this location. I don't know whether it was down to the time of day (I visited Quarriers towards the quieter end of lunch), the fact that this is a somewhat new cafe or down to the glass & white wall environs, as I said it just wasn't the same.. Don't let that put you off trying the place out though, it's still a good cafe, serving good food & the view out across the hills is really beautiful (especially with all the snow). If I taste not time were the issue I'd choose Quarriers Village over Killearn, but otherwise you'll probably choose Killearn for its convenience & almost as good food.

I had called ahead to our visit and asked about this new addition to the park, I was told it was a dog friendly cafe so was excited about popping in today. Sadly and despite what's advertised I found an outdoor picnic space. The actual cafe is inside, lovely and warm but this does not allow access to dogs, unless they're working dogs. They advertise a waitress service, where you pop into the cafe and someone comes out to take your order, again this isn't what happens in reality. I had to go through the shop, into the cafe. If I'd been on my own with the dogs, I'd have had to leave my dogs unattended. I was further disappointed when I was charged the same price for my food as the customers in the cafe for what was in essence takeaway food.......To top it off as I sat outside it began to rain...... As a dog owner I enjoy being able to include them as often as I can. Sadly my anticipation about a new dog cafe proved premature. This isn't a dog cafe, yes it's a thoughtful gesture to include a seated area for dog owners and their pets but nothing more. One of the stars I awarded was for the discussion I had with the owner...after listening to me they refunded the cost of the meal, acknowledging that they have some teething issues. Hopefully these get ironed out but I won't be rushing back, anytime soon.c

I had the Lentil Pine Nut Pork Roll special (see picture) and it was amazingly delicious! It sounded a bit funky but it was lovely. It came with a nice little side of greens with a vinaigrette. The dough that makes the 'roll' was my favourite part, almost like a crisp pastry dough. I followed my lunch with a wonderful almond raspberry tart. Yum! This time I'm trying the mushroom toast! I will let you know how it is!

I love Grace and Favour, admittedly I have only had cake and coffee on a couple of visits so far but from this alone I absolutly recommend it. Firstly the cake options are beautiful, and I was very happy to find they, on occasion, have gluten free/dairy free. I was fortunate to try the dairy free chocolate cake - amazzing!!! Coffee is by Dear Green, a little mild for my liking bit still enjoyable. The menu sounds utterly delicious and seems to have a fair selection of healthy option so I will soon be back to try this. The decor is stunning, staff have always been very friendly and chatty. A new great find, I will most deffinetly be back......soon!!

Saturdays are really busy so was glad I decided last minute to book a table. The menu is filled with sandwiches, bagels, paninis etc and all come with soup for £5.95 which is a bargain when you see the portions. However the most popular order seemed to be the high tea for two, which at £5 per person is amazing! The atmosphere is lovely, with a mix of couple, familes and quite a few grannies being treated to tea and cakes by their grandkids. The decor is nothing fancy, but the setting and welcoming staff easily makes up for it There is fabulous selection of Suki teas and homemade baking. Soups of the day this week were tomato with basil and potato and leek. Last wee I tried the curried butternut squash which was amazing! The setting is lovely and the food is well worth the 15min drive from Dennistoun. There is a garden centre and lovely views onto the loch so you could easily spend a few hours over a coffee, chatting and escaping city life.
