We stopped in for our first lunch after landing in Scotland and stopped in this little eatery/pub in the downtown area & were greeted with not only friendly staff but terrific food! The food was fantastic! The Colin Coley and cauliflower veggie appetizer was fantastic! The sticky toffee pudding was OK. We need a bigger plate and moist pudding. I eat here every year when I'm home from California. This place is AMAZING. Staff are warm friendly and go above and beyond. I came in two nights ago and had fish and chips it was top notch. Tonight I had steak pie and mash potatoes. I can't describe how good it was. Meat was tender, gravy perfect, pastry amazing and the mash oh the mash so good. I looked on yelp went to the Pie Still and the steak pie was disgusting, dry no gravy just a pie on a plate. Give them a miss and come here it's the best of Glasgow. It's warm, friendly, just a cozy amazing find. Yikes just found out tomorrow they do roast beef and Yorkshire puddings. I'll be back tomorrow. It's just the best. read more

Review update time - and yep, it's still a 4-star but had I remembered to update this review in between my last two visits, I'd have dropped it to a 3 in the meantime. I visited here for dinner a while back which was lovely, and the usual standard of B&P. But after dinner we moved into the bar area which was horrendous with an unpleasant vibe. It was a Saturday night and the crowd was quite different to what you'd get at the city B&P and generally seemed a bit more rowdy/aggressive. We ended up leaving quite a bit earlier than planned as it was just uncomfortable and an unpleasant place to have a drink. That actually put me off coming back, I won't lie. Yesterday we were looking to have a drink and even walked past here to go to the Glad Cafe but as that was full, we came back. I thought they'd be showing the football and so I was a little apprehensive but was so relieved to see they were showing cartoons (ha!) instead. There was a chilled vibe in the bar and it was pretty quiet aside from some tables with kids. I enjoyed having a drink here and would definitely come back. However - the football was finishing just as we left the pub so I'm not sure if the Hampden crowds would come here. read more

Second visit for lunch to the reinvented the Butterfly and the Pig @ the Corona. A couple of other reviewers have criticised the layout but I think the separation of the traditional bar area (a fabulous pillared basilica style structure with an amazing stained glass roof) from the chintzy tearoom and the cosier rear dining area works well. Furnished with an eclectic mix of tables, chairs and bric a brac and featuring a traditional delivery boy's bike in the back, the Butterfly and the Pig also plays some great vintage music. Both times I've chosen to eat in the bar area as the tearoom was a bit wall to wall grannies and babies, although I will try their afternoon tea or coffee and scone option some day. There was an interesting mix of former Corona regulars, hipsters, older couples, yummy mummies and dog lovers (the bar area is dog friendly). Staff were friendly and helpful and we were offered both the full menu and the lunch/bar menu which features a terrific all-day breakfast selection as well as an inventive choice of sandwiches. We shared a starter portion of roast sweet potato and goat's cheese salad which turned out to be quite a plateful but very tasty. I then had the classic club sandwich which was mahoosive and required a combination of fingers and cutlery to attack. Special mention for the sweet pickled sliced cucumber, very moreish. Euan had the steak sandwich from the main menu which was in fact a sandwich steak - beautifully seared on the outside while still pink inside - resting on an enormous pile of well dressed salad hiding a slice of toasted bread, usually served with crisps but an extra £1 added a large portion of skin-on chips. One wee complaint is that the toasted bread on both sandwiches whilst not burnt was rock hard. Perhaps they could try slightly less toasting or a less substantial bread. We were absolutely stuffed so no puddings, maybe next time and there will be a next time. read more

From the moment I walked in this pub/eatery I felt a warm and cozy glow. Soft and cushy sofas in the main pub area greeted my partner and I. We chose to eat in the restaurant side of the pub, though and were happy to see the assortment of mismatched dining chairs and tables from the early 1900s. The dishes, cutlery and table cloths all fine china from 100 different Gran's sideboards. The montage of well curated vintage items lent to a feeling of comfort and warmth with a dash of funky. ...Scene set for a great meal: opened with a goat cheese and fig tart as a starter and steak with peppercorn sauce for my mate, lamb chops for me. PERFECTION. Everything from the potatoes to the green beans and seared tomato garnish impressed. Even the mint sauce was on target. I wish we had room for dessert.... Best meal I've had in Scotland since arriving 6 weeks ago. I may have to come back, just to visit this place again! read more

A Change for the Better? Probably. I'm usually anti-gentrification, but only when it suits me. It's the redevelopment of perfectly good haunts and the soft relocation of local clientele that I'm particularly against, but tbh I was never a big fan of The Corona. Hence the, "suits me", self-interest. There're still some of the old locals hanging in there - maybe out of curiosity, but I hope because they like what their bar has become. I like it! That I know. I love the new laid back "every day's a Sunday" atmosphere. I'm enjoying the crackly 50's low-key Blues music playing out at 78rpm. I'm even fond of the dimmed-down, no tv, ambiance and the mute swirly patterned, drop-match wallpaper! Drink at the front and eat at the back where someone will meet and greet you. But for now it was a sit down I needed and after swift service at the bar I found a quiet area to plonk myself down. That reminds me - the bar tap selection is pretty basic, but hopefully that will change? But who knows, so it's (£4.50!*) a bottle for me. A good local for all us southsiders-I've been a few times since this branch opened. It's got a bar area and a restaurant area, and it's not a bad idea to book a table or you could wait a while in the evenings as I did on my first visit. The restaurant is cosy and has mismatched crockery that looks like your granny might have, but that rather adds to the charm. The menu is reasonable and extensive enough to cater for pretty much everyone and they seemed happy enough to make any adjustments required. There is always cake on offer, the staff are friendly and I've always enjoyed my food and I'm happy to continue coming back! read more

A super place for dinner that gets a lot very right. Absolutely brilliant portion sizes: it's hard to think how you could leave anything other than pleasantly full. The fish and chips in newspaper, and the gammon steak done right deserve a mention, but the specials are strong tempters. Choose your starter carefully! Decent beer: I rarely get much further than draft Schiehallion or the West beer. Comfy surrounds on the whole. More an ambience thing but the mismatch feel has a homely feel o really like. About the only thing that lets it down, and it's entirely personal, are the menus - I get what they're trying to do, but I prefer a menu I can scan quickly. Later evening events (quiz on Wednesday; open mic nights etc) seem to kick off around 9, so get there earlier if you're after a quieter meal, or to bag a good seat. Great addition to the south side and sure to be a regular haunt. read more

I wanted to fall in love with this pub but sadly couldn't. It was a last minute decision to go for a bite to eat with a friend from work; it looked inviting with a decent menu. The staff were friendly and we were seated quickly in the dining area. Service was efficient but there was a strange musty smell in the air. My gammon steak was lovely & included real pineapple rather than the tinned variety. A large portion so good value for money. Sadly my friend's steak was more grizzle than meat. To be fair on b&p they took her meal off the bill without a quibble which is a nice touch. I'm not sure whether it was because the staff seemed to be all male when we went but the ladies loos could have done with a wee clean. They also smelt a tad foosty. I'd probably go for a midweek drink but wouldn't be rushing back to eat. read more

Had eaten in the bar just after the B&F opened - then I had the club sandwich - which was delicious! So was looking forward to visiting with the other half for dinner which we eventually did a couple of weeks ago. And we were not disappointed! The menu is an essay and does take some time to digest! But it had us engrossed and laughing for ages while we took our time deciding... Warning - the portions are huge! We had starters and mains and were stuffed - really wanted to try the desserts but guess I will go for main and dessert next time! We chose prawns and sweet potato and goats cheese salad to start - both were delicious - in the fact salad would have been an ideal lunch! Mains were Fish pie presented in a skillet - and Hubble says it was delish ( but a huge portion). And I had the burger - which again was tasty and the chips were hade and just the way your mammy made them. One strange thing - we ordered a bottle of wine - all wines are Italian which I found strange as it almost made us not order wine( as I would normally only go for Italian wine in an Italian) if I could remember the name of the red I would tell you! But it was about £16 bottle and went down very nicely! Tip - I would definitely recommend but take your time reading the menu - it's funny! read more

I went for the smoked mackerel to start and the steak pie for the main. The service was great and the food came really quickly. The starter was a huge plateful, two mackerel on an enormous bed of salad. It tasted good, but I just wouldn't have included all that greenery. My partner was already struggling before her main appeared. The steak pie was even bigger, lots of veg and the most solid steak pie you could ever imagine. There was almost no gravy in the pie, it was just about pure shredded steak and therefore very rich and a bit dry. Always one for a challenge I ate the lot. If you love a lot of food this is a place for you. Not subtle, but good value, honest scran. read more

Best mac-n-cheese ever? Possibly. The very best mac-n-cheese I've ever had was made by a judge I used work with. Hers had 7 kinds of cheese and was the most amazing food ever. People would come from all over the courts and city offices when they knew she had made a pan - usually for a birthday or going away party. It was world famous in the city of Indianapolis. Now that she has passed away the butterfly and pig's is probably the best. If you don't love it, then get your taste buds checked. No, seriously. The strawberry poppy seed cake is light and fluffy and very yummy. This is place is and improvement on the old Corona. read more

A few personal favourites of mine are the goats cheese and sweet potato salad, the macaroni and last night I tried the steak pie which was amazing. So I live in the Southside but yet it wasn't until today that I ventured into the re-branded Butterfly and The Pig and to be honest everything I heard and thought about it turned out to be true. Firstly, from the outside you could swear this place was still The Corona and if it wasn't for the light B&P amendment to the facade when you walk in that feeling would remain the same. The bar looks the same but there are a few cushions and curtains dotted about the place that were never there before. The main change is towards the back where there is a restaurant that sits a substantial number of people. As I was only there for drinks I can only go by how the food looked, which was good, however until a morsel passes my mouth then I can't rate this anything other than A-OK as at the end of the day for your standard afternoon pint this is no different to The Corona bar that stood before it and that, at the end of the day, was just OK. read more

Went for lunch. Good menu with variety of selections in a reasonable price range. Had gluten free option for my companion. Really nice chill vibe during the daytime. Review - The Butterfly and the Pig South - Food The Butterfly and the Pig in the Southside is one of my favourite venues this side of the Clyde. Over the last year I have not spent nearly as much time in this delicious little pub as I would have liked and had not managed to sample any of its cooking. I was a little ashamed of myself. Finally managing to make it along with the sole intention of having some food was a relief and exciting proposition. The well-lit bar has always been friendly and warm. The atmosphere is malleable so suits both the conversational and the contemplative. Essentially, it's quite a nice place. The aesthetic of the restaurant is pleasant and suitably removed from the bar allowing for more intimate conversations whilst not feeling utterly separate. The service started off well with polite and friendly staff ensuring drinks were ordered, supplying a jug of tap water without us asking, and sharing a joke with the table. We went for a staple (a burger and chips) and a special (haggis, neeps, and tatties). The waiting time for the food provided some assurances that it was being properly cooked whilst not being uncomfortably long. The burger arrived with the appearance of being well done but with a bite the mask fell and revealed its pinkish core. The cooking brought a not entirely welcome texture whilst depriving the burger of any definitive taste. The chips, however, were heavenly. Each taste demanded a sequel and it was with terrible sadness that we stumbled upon the last of the preposterously pleasurable potatoes. A bizarre side-show to all this was the absence of the coleslaw the menu mentioned as being an accompaniment to the order. The coleslaw, for one reason or another, was absent. Instead we were served a rather alarming pot of soggy cucumber. So bewildered were we that we didn't challenge this thus its presence may forever remain a mystery. The Scottish special was adorned with shavings of turnip (I may be mistaken on this) that added little to the aesthetic and a general inconvenience to the eating process. The main components of the meal were okay but they never quite managed to escape the realms of mediocrity. As we were finishing the chips (left until last) we were asked if we were finished whilst both eating joyously in a manner far from covert. Upon plopping the cash on the tray for the bill it was collected and taken away without a word in what I can only describe as a stand-offish manner. Basically, it was a mixed bag and I think my optimistic expectations may have impacted upon my review. The pub is excellent and I'm a big fan of that whole side of the franchise. The restaurant, at least on this occasion, let the side down with food that was very middle-of-the-road and a service that was too inconsistent (good bits and less-than-good bits). Verdict: 3/5 - Heavenly chips but I'll be sticking to the bar. read more

Went into this place with a huge expectation due to hearing about and reading reviews about the other butterfly and pig in the city centre. So this place had alot to live up to and im happy to say that it did so and more! Walking in i was a little apprehensive as it looked like the same old Corona bar as it has recently taken this over but was pleasently surprised as the dining area was around teh corner and down the back which seperated the bar and dining area nicely. Interesting wee touches stop this place being just a dining area in a bar such as all their lovely cakes on display, very interesting wallpaper, nice light fixtures and some nicely positioned drapery around the place! The staff were really nice, was shown to our seats very quickly, asked if needed any drinks or a look at the wine menu. Didnt have a cocktail menu but when asked what the choices were we were told he would be happy to make anything which is a really nice touch. The menu is a chortle and a half with such things as sammy the sea bas and battred to death hadock the fare. I plumped with beer battered prawns with the hot marie (no not me) sauce. The prawns were well cooked, obviously fresh with bubbly crisp batter and a lovely wee sauce which complimented it well. Onto the main course and i had the lamb cutlets complete with a blue cheese and mustard sauce. Came out on a huge plate and i thought oh no its going to be a tiny bit of lamb but it was 4 decent size lamb chops, lots of new potatoes, some croutons, a little bit of mushroom under the lamb and a large leaf salad on the side. This came with the lovely and frankly amazing sauce in a little rustic looking cup and it was absoloutely delicious as was all the food. The lamb was tender and oh so tasty, the new potatoes done in oil and herbs were perfect and the croutons were a nice wee hidden surprise. The othe rpeople had a variety of things which looked and tasted lovely from what little i tried of theirs. The only part that could have been done better was the sauce, although amazingly tasty, had unmelted blue cheese on the bottom which could have done with just a little thining down but thats more a personal thing. I would most definetely go here again as the food and staff members are up to a very high standard. Well done guys! read more

Going up a star, as this has become a good place for post-work drinks after those long and difficult days in the office (and there are a few of them!). The range of gin is reasonable, the price of a bottle of wine won't break the bank and the early evening atmosphere is good - you can always get a seat and it's rarely noisy, but it can be quite lively. Some evenings they have an open mic night and that's usually pretty good too. I haven't been back in for food but I'm tempted to give it another go and see if it can rescue another star there as well. Watch this space... read more

I think the menu is too large here, there is just way too much to choose from. I do like the way the menus is written though. I am a fan of the food and normally have the black pudding salad which is very filling. The atmosphere is much better in the one in bath street. I feel this is still very much like the corona. This venue, previously known as the 'Corona Bar' was in dire need of bit of an face lift! Thankfully converting it to The Buttterfly and the Pig has done just that. The bar staff are fun and trendy and the little 'vintage tea room' style dining area is very cute, it has a nice cosy feel about it. The food is excellent and well cooked. I had the fish and chips which were scrumptious. If you fancy more of a laid back dining experience you can also sit on one of their old couches with your feet up and feel like you're in your own front room!! read more

Burnt prawns for starter, cremated fish cake for main topped with a rubbery egg, it was like a live edition of Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares!!!! The serving staff were good though , my birthday meal was ruined but they didn't charge and we're very apologetic. The main bar has bbc one or two on big screens constantly, so if you want to enjoy a pint and watch homes under the hammer this is the place for you, they have an awkward separated restaurant and bar situation and once seated you can look at the menu, the menu has a "quirky" delivery. But it's a real cringe read. Instead of listing dishes it reads "one and a half pounds for all of our soup and all of our breads" this is very annoying and far from endearing. The drinks usually come after the starter and the main shortly after the drinks. Staff are always half asleep and don't ask you preferences, the condiments are cheap and Nasty: I'm trying hard not to go overboard with negatives as I write this but the positives are very very few. The burgers are over cooked the pasta is undercooked the garnish is hotel like and there is nothing individual about the experience what so ever, people are happy eating here because of the quirky name and menu but seriously they are getting away with Murder. The last time I ate here I could have walked out without paying after waiting twenty minutes for someone to take payment but I paid anyway and will never go back I've been three times now and every time I regret it read more

Was in for a quick lunch with friends. First impressions were OK.. Sometimes we like to just grab a bit to eat in the bar but were taken through to the dining area, which is huge, to a nice big table. The tablecloth annoyed me as it was so long and kept catching on my shoes causing me to nearly drag everyone's dinner away, it also had a stain on it which put me off a bit! The menu is a long read and to be honest I couldn't really be bothered faffing through it, sometimes simple can be best. We ordered a burger and Mac and cheese and Italian sausage and mash.The Macaroni was lovely, great balance of sauce, rich but not too cheesy and plenty of it with a lovely crispy crumb topping. The burger looked good and got the thumbs up too, nice and juicy with proper skin on chips which were great. The Italian sausage and mash got a good review too.Good selection of drinks, the house red was very light and drinkable according to those who had it. Dinner last night for family occasion. My brother recommend as used the city centre a lot. Having been in the previous premise a few times I thought they could possibly have spent more time sorting the layout. I felt that half was still the corona and have was b&p. The food was good And big portions and our service was very good ( we ate at 5 pm) so early doors. The only downfall was that I felt the place could do with a good clean. Love this place . It's welcoming the food is good the service is good, great atmosphere . Wether your popping in for breakfast.(great poached eggs on toast lovely homemade bread) or lunch or dinner. I think it's great for all occasions . Love the bath street butterfly and pig too , just sometimes tooooo crowded and found the service not always with a smile. So pop in more often to south side now . Nothing but good to say about the place . Prices reasonable and good portions. read more
