My first time here was for one of their events they hosted (2025 Summer Game Show) where you could sell/trade/buy games and collectibles from different vendors. It's a large, spacious shop so it was no trouble hosting the large amount of people that they had throughout that day. I was there for half the day and it felt quite warm inside until the end of the event, so bring a portable fan if you overheat easily. Staff were regularly checking up on customers who were browsing their products and very open to assisting if needed. Selling is a quick process if you know what you want and there's not a long que of others waiting to sell. As long as I've supported this business I've not felt it reciprocated, and I'm not one to hold grudges, but this place just doesn't sit well with me. Frankly, it has lived in my head rent free and it's time I booted it with some explanatory closure. Here I speak my mind: The owner is smug, overbearing when his staff are valuating a customer, and, curtly, predatory in terms of both their buying and selling rates. I've seen collections here go for below 1/5 (if even) of their whole value other local Sacramento valuations "ostensibly" (emphasis there) placed on them well into the thousands. People's hard earned and life-long collections just going for chump change because "it will take time to move" or whatever other cheap excuse I've gathered from folks--meanwhile, the owner boasts of needing inventory for his third store, and how he drops 100,000's of thousands of dollars/millions, cumulatively, on 3AM expeditions to the middle of nowhere for lucrative private collections. This is a contradiction in terms and makes prior sales harbor resentment. While the selection and ambiance is noteworthy, it all gets tainted with contempt for reasons like this. Not to mention the markups on items that the very patrons keeping your business thriving are the ones fronting the bill for these markups. The owner is obviously not strapped for cash given what they boast online, yet they offer upsetting trade values and markups on inventory. The bread and butter of the business, of course. They constantly have new cards and I feel they have the best prices on singles because they are constantly getting trades in and have the most accurate market prices. I absolutely have loved coming to fire and ice for the last 2 years. My bf and I love being apart of the community they have there and all the fun events they have going on all the time. We do our best to come to them every month event wise or stopping by every week or two for cards or more retro games. We love it here. Everyone is so nice all the time so very helpful. Dakota, Alma, Ryan, and everyone is always making sure we have what we need or even hold it Untill I get paid next. I have the best times there. We recently got a GameCube and are going to be getting more classics here! Definitely check them out they will make u have the best experience or help u with any questions or games ur looking for. They have a wide variety of cards and games all around. They're always adding new things to their collection or getting the new latest thing. I told myself I would not come back here the first time but had to go for my little cousin. I will admit they have a very wide variety of pokemon/mtg and other nick nacks only for their scalping prices, which is reasonable for a business but man this place is targeting people who are just coming into the hobby. Be aware of the condition of the cards and the price it is listed at. Looked for a specific card and saw it was sold for a near mint market price but was in fact definitely moderately played. I went in when it was not busy but was neglected for about 15 min of trying to grab some cards from the shelf. (Yes I could've asked but wanted to see when I would be acknowledged). Don't know if it was because I was with a semi large group with some teens and didn't want our business or it was something else. It wasn't until Cooper helped us out and was very patient with the group and had an actual conversation with us. However, the bald headed owner gave me a rude smirk when the worker asked if I could trade in for a higher percentage (5% which as only $1-2 more) that I was asking for. If you want good business make the drive to Golden State TCG where you will have a much better experience in trading/selling, basically anything. Even so make the extra drive to Ultimate Spice Gaming if you want to feel welcomed. Trade in prices are 50-60% here depending on the value of your card. Definetly take your business elsewhere. read more

Fire and Ice is a huge space with tons of modern and retro games. As with any store in this industry, the resale prices for used games can be quite high for in-demand sought after games (big franchises like Pokemon for example), but the selection is quite deep so even if you're looking for smaller games, chances are you might be able to find it. The staff is great and really helpful. I was looking for a 3DS copy of Dragon Quest 8, which they didn't have at the time but took my phone number down and called me right away once they had a copy that was brought in. I'm also a big trading card game player as well, so it's nice to see the variety of games that they have, as well as being incredibly fair when it comes to selling Pokemon singles to them as well. I'm mainly a Digimon Card Game player, so the only frustrating part is that they don't usually carry booster boxes there and if they do, it's not the latest set, which isn't a big deal. Still, it's nice to drop by with buddies and have a space to play from time to time since they host plenty of events through the week with a lot of open tables to play other games in between. All in all, if gaming of any medium is a hobby you've been into or are trying to get into, Fire and Ice is the place to go read more

Whenever my wife and I travel, be it for business or pleasure, we try to find a card shop or two to visit and grab some singles. In June we were up in the Sacramento area. After scouring the reviews of the wonder people of Yelp, we elected to visit Fire and Ice. We were not disappointed. This is one of the largest and cleanest game shops I have been in. The people were pleasant and knowledgeable. I ended up purchasing a booster box of Pokemon Cards and opening them right there in the shop. Just walking around their shop, there are so many cool things, retro games, TCGs, wall decorations, Amiibos, just so much GAMING stuff! If I am ever in the area again, it will be hard to check out a new shop, because I will definitely ensure that I make time to visit this one again. read more

It's a great store if your looking for singles or games. But the selling of sealed currently available items at a scalper price honestly disappoints me. An item that's $15 at target down the road is $30 here and the markups go on everything. I understand games and collectibles but that's like selling items with the intention of ripping off your customers that keep your store alive. The staff is friendly and helpful and the selection of item is amazing but I've even seen items well over the going price. This place... is HUGE. One of the largest used game stores I've been to with a ridiculous selection of games and accessories across every console generation for Intellivision to PS5. Multiple copies of very rare games and a number of unlicensed and 3rd party games. Prices are fair for a collector-focused store and you don't have to worry about shipping fees or damage in transit. The staff are very friendly, very knowledgeable, and love to hear the deep cuts of lore about games. They're collectors too, and have some of the funniest oddities to talk about. I have visited a lot of retro video game stores throughout the state to include the Bay Area, Southern California, Central Valley... and numerous other places. I've also been collecting retro video games for over 15 years and have been an avid gamer for over 40 years. So I say this with conviction.... Fire and Ice Games is quite possibly the best retro video game store in all of California. The moment you walk in the door you are overwhelmed with the sheer size of this place. The square footage is unreal. You could probably fit a diesel truck and two trailers in this place. No exaggeration. Secondly... their game inventory is unbelievably massive. They have video games for every system you could think of from Dreamcast to TurboGrafx-16 to Sega CD to Virtual Boy and of course NES, SNES, GameCube, PlayStation 1 - 5, and all the XBOX's with their confusing names (lol) and so many more. You can tell that the staff at Fire and Ice Games care about their product. Each game appears to have been cleaned and cared for and is placed in a protective plastic sleeve; making each used game feel new again. In addition to a great selection of common titles with reasonable prices, they have sooo many heavy hitters (rare and pricey games) here! It's literally insane. They also have a wide selection of retro game consoles available for those of you just getting into the retro game scene and looking to pick up where they left off in their childhood memories. Also, Fire and Ice has a wide selection of Pokemon cards (if that's your thing) and board games. Matter of fact, I believe a Pokemon tournament was happening the day I showed up. Which was cool. Sorry, I'm an old guy so I don't really understand the card game. Lastly, the best part of this store is not the size, the selection of games, or consoles, but it's their staff. Their staff was quick to help as soon as I walked in the door. I didn't have to seek out assistance, because it seemed like when I appeared that I may have had a question or request, they approached me first to provide immediate help. Truly used to love this store when they first opened. But they are just a Pokemon scalper with a store front now. You will never get product near MSRP expect double or triple. Received a Christmas gift this year from my grandfather. He ended up buying me a game I already owned. Honest mistake. No biggie I thought, game was never opened. Called in to ask what the policy was on exchanges and I was quickly told I'm basically told I'm "SOL" and that there are no circumstances that warrant an exchange or return. Best they could do is a 1/2 store credit. So now my gift has depreciated in value because it left the store even if it's unopened.
