I ordered the Key Lime Pie online for Administrative Professionals' Day. The picture of the whole pie showed that it came with a meringue or whipped cream on top. When I picked up the pie it came in a box inside of a large bag that was stapled shut. The staff was very friendly. After I returned to the office, I discovered that the pie had no meringue on top. I called the shop to let them know and they said that only single slices of the pie come with whipped cream. I let them know that the website indicates otherwise and there was no option to select any toppings when ordering. They kindly offered a refund which I took and appreciated, though they really should fix the website to prevent further confusion. I gave the shop 4 stars because the service was friendly and the pie was very good. read more

It's a spot that is tasty and feels unique. I was downtown this weekend and planned to grab food at a open market there. Sadly nothing was appetizing there, but I checked my Yelp tags and I had Fireman Derek's marked. I knew it wouldn't be a proper lunch at a bakery but it would taste extra delectable. I walked into the high ceilinged spacious white interior of Fireman's. The guy working the counter was friendly and quick to help me. I shouldn't have come hungry. I got piece of apple pie, peanut butter and chocolate pie, and then, at a moment of weakness, I also got their famed magic bar. It's not a place that's affordable, it's a spot that you pay more because you know it has greatness. much later after lunch and hungry again, I had a bite of the aple pie. My goodness it was good. But when I took a bite of the magic bar I got a happy sugar rush that I hadn't gotten in a while. Scrumptious. Having sampled his wares at a food festival once upon a time, when we found ourselves in the area, it seemed a no brainer to get dessert here. Plenty of parking out back. The shop was well lit, clean, and well stocked even though it was almost closing time. Staff was friendly too! We ordered two pieces of pie to go, and they were well protected for the trip, each in their own plastic container. Derek's pie travels well and once we got home, we dug in. Salted caramel pie on an oatmeal cookie crust was amazing and the famous Cookie Monster pie was good too! Stopped by for dessert and ended up wanting to try everything in the display case. The key lime pie was creamy with just the right amount of tartness, and the cookies were fresh and packed with flavor. Their display cases were loaded with so many delicious looking treats. I really enjoy the Cookie Monster pie. The cookie mixture works great & the pie itself is phenomenal. The chocolate chip cookie was huge & loaded with chocolate chunks. It had a crunchy outside & soft middle. The key lime pie was even greater than I expected (I had high hopes). It was both tart & sweet with a delicious graham cracker crust. The crust was on the thicker side, which I usually don't like, but the flavor & consistency made it enjoyable. Definitely one of the best key lime slices l've had around. The only thing I don't particularly like is the pricing. Been here on 2 separate occasions and the consistency in the pastry remains the same. I am hooked on the Red Velvet cake and Cheesecake. The service was quick and fast the times I've been. No long lines/ wait time. Inside was clean, tidy and colorful. The cake slices ranges from $12 up. They also offer ice-creams, cookies and brownies. My favorite is the red velvet cake. Each has a different vibe suitable for the areas they're located in. All made me feel welcomed and "at home". Fort Lauderdale, while convenient for me, is very "cold" and so is the customer service. I ordered a guava coconut cake from Fireman Derek's Bake Shop for a birthday celebration, and I paid over $100 for it. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with this particular cake. It had far more icing than actual cake -- it honestly felt like I paid for an icing cake rather than a guava coconut cake. The excessive sweetness made it difficult to enjoy, and it wasn't what I expected at all. I want to note that all the other cakes and items I've purchased from here in the past have been great, which is why this experience was so surprising. This one just missed the mark. I hope the bakery can be more consistent in the future, especially for specialty cakes at this price point. read more

This review is overdue. I visited Fireman Derek's Bake Shop on Tuesday, 9/5/23, in the afternoon. On my visit, I decided to order an Oreo Cheesecake Milkshake. What I liked about this shop was that they blended a slice of the freshly-made Oreo cheesecake into my drink. After tasting the milkshake, it was probably the best milkshake I had in such a long time! It was truly the epitome of deliciousness. I also got a few slices of cakes to go such as Red Velvet, Birthday Cake, and Guava Coconut. The cakes were all on point in terms of flavor and moisture. The total for four of these items was nearly $60 (including the 10% service charge fee that they have). The overall bill seemed pricey to me, but Fireman Derek's baked items and milkshakes are undeniably the bomb! read more

If you're looking for good baked items, this is the place. Be aware, however that it is not cheap. Nor is it diet food. Everything you eat here will put pounds on you. Delicious, sugar-filled pounds. Derek is a trendy kind of bake shop. My only major complaint was that I couldn't sit there and enjoy my food because the restaurant was entirely too cold. I don't know who was in charge in of the thermostat but they really need to go by the number and not how one person feels. It was freezing. Other than that, everything was quite good. One of my go to dessert spots. Before this location opened, I used to make the drive to Miami to pickup a slice of pie and go back all the way up to Coconut Creek. Now I can swing by after work or make the shorter drive from Coconut Creek to Fort Lauderdale whenever the craving comes. They are definitely on the pricey side... $22 for the two slices pictured below. Years ago, I could get two from their Miami location for well under $20. The first thing you'll notice about this bake shop is the location -- directly next to a smoke shop. That is genius on someone's part. We walked in after a lovely dinner, me craving cheesecake. After much debate over cherry or the simple NY style cheesecake, I decided less is more. I couldn't wait to dig into the silky, velvety smooth cheesecake. I'm not sure who's baking these cakes, but the richness was by far the best I've had since being in NYC eating directly from Junior's. I was hoping they delivered through Goldbelly or some other service only to be disappointed. The staff was great they answered all my questions and also gave recommendations about the cakes and pies. One big thing though which led me to just giving 4 stars is the pricing. They dont have the prices posted on the menu or by the items. So very sketchy if you ask me. It results to me asking the staff the price which bogles my mind. A slice of pie can easily run you 8-12 bucks. I also asked how much for a whole cake and it costs about 80 for a regular red velvet or carrot. They have good food but not good pricing. read more

No phone number for the store was listed in whatever source I went to to find this spot (probably Yelp! but may have been a maps app), so I didn't call ahead, and I was sorely disappointed that, around 4pm on a weekday, they turned out not to have any of their famous key lime pie, a Florida classic. My consolation prize, however, blew me away. I think it was called a salted caramel pie? The slice had a bit of powdered sugar on top *and on bottom* and a sweet and salty filling reminiscent of pecan pie or another pie purveyor's "crack pie." A friend of mine recommended this place for dessert. I have never heard of it but boy was I happy to have stopped in and try a couple of their desserts. We stopped in Saturday May 4th around 9 pm. The place has plenty of parking, it's very nice and clean, the staff were fine not super friendly just straight to the point lol. I ordered the Oreo Cookie Pie and the Flan Classico. Both of them were delicious! The quality of the desserts were enjoyable and definitely of sharing size. However, if you're a sweets lover then I can one person devouring one slice of pie for themselves. The two desserts ran us about $17. I did see they have full on cakes you can purchase along with slices. Check out their menu as I am sure you will find something you would love. Yesterday while driving east to our New Year's Eve doin's we passed Fireman Derek's Bake Shop. I immediately squealed with delight and made hubby turn the car around so we could pop in. I've been seeing rave reviews about this place and wanting to go for some time now. Crystal gave me the most cheerful welcome and asked if I've ever been. She then gave me the 4-1-1 on all that was great to order. I left with two slices of cake (Red Velvet and Carrot Cake) and one cookie (White Chocolate Chip with Guava). While pricey, all were well worth it. I think that was the most divine and unique flavor cookie I've ever had. Hubby and I both really loved the Carrot Cake too. I'd gladly go back to try some of Fireman Derek's other delicious options. Definitely check this place out, and you'll be a fan for sure. read more

A little history : Fireman Derek is a real person. Derek Kaplan is a 6'2" former firefighter who loves to bake pies. His friend Pat used to encourage him to open a pie shop. After Pat passed away his wife Kim gave Derek the money to start the business. It was a bittersweet start to turning a life time passion into a business. He opened a small shop in Wynwood in 2014 with the actual production done in Little Haiti 2 miles from the store. He then went on to open a second location In Coconut Grove where he started offering his pies mixed into ice cream. He also has a collection of savory pies. At long last he has made it to Broward with his own store front on Federal Hwy in the Downtown Marketplace plaza. I finally got to meet Derek! I was star struck. He was so nice, he even took a picture with me. As a long time fan I had to have a slice of the caramel salted pie, formerly named the crack pie because it is that addicting. Of course all of the usual suspects were on hand, Grasshopper, Nutella, and Brownie Bomb, not to mention cakes, shakes, bars, cookies, and so much more! Alas they were out of the chicken pot pie so I need to come back earlier in the day. Forget all those old boring grocery store pies this Thanksgiving and bring a pie from Derek's.
