Quirky little bookstore. Exceptionally well organized by genre and author. From the very old to newer versions you may find what you are looking for there. We all found books to read on our vacation. Recommend shopping for a book here. read more

It's fine enough as a small used bookstore. There are adequate sections of most genres. No rare books to choose from, and a small selection of favorite authors. Prices are a bit higher than I would have anticipated, and you get the feeling that your presence is a nuisance. read more

My main complaint with this store is the clerk/owner is a very rude, bitter old woman. I am local and have been in the store three times and each time I leave there feeling very disrespected and angry. Don't bother trying to small talk with her because it's obvious you are just wasting her time. She will yell at you if you are on your phone, even TEXTING inside the store, because there's "a sign posted on the door" for no cells phone. Also her cat (it lives in the store) bit me when I tried to pet it. Yeah, done trying with this 'business'. It's upsetting because there is a good selection of used books to browse through but I'm never going there again. read more

Conveniently located on the west side Hi-Way 101 in the Deco District of Newport, this little bookstore is a treasure! Meticulously organized, neat, quiet, clean, well lit, with the occasional comfy chair to relax in while perusing a book. First thing that hit me when I walked in was almost the floor. I was carrying my toddler and couldn't see the large blanket that was folded up on the floor as you walk in the door. I laughed and felt embarrassed and the women behind the counter was very rude and said "there's a sign on the door!" The experience got worse from there. I only looked at the children's books but they were overpriced. I wouldn't recommend it but if you go I hope you've a better experience than we did! read more

Fireside Books is one of a vanishing breed of used bookstore where you can get lost in the stacks and spend an hour just browsing. The selection is terrific and all of very high quality; I've acquired many additions to my personal library from Fireside. I consider this a fine, "old school" type of bookstore and a hidden treasure in Newport. The owner is quite knowledgeable regarding all things books and can be quite conversant in many areas. If you are seeking a "modern" bookstore where you can be brash and noisy please keep looking, but if you want to while away some time perusing a diverse assortment of quality used books in a peaceful and comfortable atmosphere, this is the place for you. Regarding the cat, like most cats if he doesn't know you he's not inclined to be cuddly; you have to meet him on his terms...after all, it's his store! read more

A hidden gem behind a simple storefront in heart of downtown. This old style used book store has a surprisingly extensive and varied inventory, all well kept and right priced. The owner is quiet, but knowledgeable and helpful if asked. Be sure and stop if heading thru Newport. read more

I used to like this store, in the previous years that I've visited, I've always had a good experience. However, when I tried to go in today with my service dog, the lady at the counter was very rude. Note: NOWHERE ON THE STOREFRONT IS THERE A SIGN THAT SAYS "PLEASE NO DOGS BECAUSE THERE'S A CAT IN THE STORE." There is a sign about no food/drinks, and not being on your phone, but nothing about dogs/service dogs. The lady at the counter very rudely said "umm, no. No dogs, I have a cat." Didn't specify cat in the store, just a cat somewhere. My service dog is very polite and mostly ignores cats, so we wouldn't have bothered one if it was in the store, but we weren't given a chance. This lady caused me to have a panic attack, when all I wanted to do was support the business by buying books. Guess I'll be going elsewhere for books when I'm in town. I'm very disappointed with how my service dog and I were received. read more
