What a lovely place! Firstly, the woman who picks the wines was on her way to the store when we arrived.she got out and came in helping us choose a delicious beaujolais. The sandwiches were spot on. We didn't eat here--stopped because I heard about the wonderful wine selection--from small wineries. This wine shop is a gem--as is Mary Ellen, the proprietor. She is so knowledgeable about wine--and personable. I could have talked to her for hours. It was morning so we didn't do a tasting, but she gave us a nice glass of wine anyway. She does dinner and wine pairings that sounded lovely. My friend has been to several tastings there, it is her favorite Deep Creek haunt. read more

My only complaint is that there are a lot of wine racks in here so it's a bit crowded and there are only a few tables so if it's busy you are out of luck for a table. This is definitely THE place to meet for locals and visitors alike. The atmosphere is very friendly and the owner is just as likely to serve you as any of her staff. If she's got a spare moment she'll walk around and chat with guests. The format is this: Take a look at the menu (soups, salads, sandwiches, cheese plates), walk up to the counter and order what you'd like. Next you can go taste the wines that are on special and then you can decide what wine you'd like to get a bottle or glass of. You don't need to buy a whole bottle, but it's probably a good idea if you're with someone else. When I was there, the place was packed. We asked the man doling out the wine tasting where he was from and he laughed, "I'm a customer here!" That's how friendly this place is. Really cool place. We stopped by for the first time to check it out and ended up staying for a while. We did a tasting ($8 per person) of about 7 different wines, and the guy at the tasting station was very friendly and knowledgeable. After that, we decided to grab some lunch. Ended up ordering two half sandwiches to split, and then I ordered a 3rd half sandwich afterwards when I was still a little hungry. We got the British Cowboy (roast beef with an herb cheese spread and peppers, really good), the meatball (awesome), and the Grecian chicken. The chicken sandwich was a little odd - the menu said it had chicken, an olive spread, feta, and greek dressing. Neither of us could taste or see any feta or dressing at all. Not sure if it was on there very lightly, or if someone genuinely forgot. Either way, it was still good, but a little strange. We also met the owner and she was very friendly and helpful. They have a $100 case deal where she will mix and match 12 completely different wines for you based on your tastes - she has a shelf full of random wines that she has a couple bottles left of. Based on looking online afterwards, they tend to be bottles that sell for about $10-12, so it looks to be a pretty good deal. It looks like they have an outdoor area set up, and I can't wait to come back when it isn't -2 degrees outside to check it out. read more

This was our second time to this location and this is now one of my favorite places in Deepcreek. The owner is one of the sweetest ladies we've ever met she cares about her customers and she cares about their experience. I am extremely impressed with their Panini's (get the cowboy roast beef). The wines that they do winetasting for on Saturdays are phenomenal. The also sell an entire case for $100 and the quality of wine you can put in that case are high end! This was a nice stop for our weekend away in Deep Creek. Service was super friendly and the wine tasted great. We had a bottle to split with out lunch. We had the grilled chicken salad which tasted great, but I can say for the small size it was definitely way too overpriced to be $16. I wouldn't mind trying a panini next time we are in town and we would definitely stop back again for the wine. read more

The 100 wine box can't be beat. The sandwiches and salads were delicious and we all adored the custom made cheese plate. We had a blueberry cheese that was just amazing. Everyone was very friendly, but apparently we visited during a wine tasting dinner and didn't know we were intruding. I wish there had been a sign up so we would have known to come back a different day as the stares from the dinners were uncomfortable not to mention. Other than that it's a great locations that is a bit off the beaten path, but definitely worth the trip. Be advised that while they may have the best deal for wine in the area, the food is not cheap by any means. It's expensive and the serving sizes aren't fantastically huge for the sandwiches or salads. read more

I hadn't been to this place in years and had been wanting to visit again because I remembered it as a really relaxing place. And it was that - just wonderful. The service/staff are by far the best you'll ever see anywhere - just so welcoming and genuine. They really take an interest in their customers and want to make sure you enjoy your experience. My mom, husband, and I did a wine and cheese pairing tasting - for $30, you get three glasses of wine and an assortment of cheeses. It is a bit on the pricey side but given that it's three full glasses and excellent cheese, it's worth it. They ask you what kinds of wine you like and try to bring you ones you'll really enjoy - for each of us we had entirely different wines and we all liked what we got. The wines they get are really speciality kinds of wines that you wont find other places (as in, they had a bottle from a small winery we know of that we've never seen anywhere else on the east coast). Upon entering this establishment you walk right into an area with tables and chairs that is surrounded by wine. The menu is limited and a bit expensive. My spouse and I shared a panini which tasted alright but cost us $11. Unless you are a wine connoisseur I would not recommend this place for getting food. read more

The Fireside Deli and Wine Shop in Deep Creek Lake, MD. is a gem of a find. It is a boutique wine shop with an eclectic selection of very nice (and affordable) wines. They also have a wonderful selection of cheeses and some very tasty sandwiches. The cheeses range from excellent examples of familiar cheeses to more exotic varieties, some of which I had never heard of before (but thoroughly enjoyed). Best of all, however, they have a few tables within the shop itself where customers can sit and sample both the wines and cheeses. I had the wine sampler with cheese pairings for lunch, and it was marvelous. The staff are enthusiastic about their products and excited to share their experiences about the wine and cheeses with customers (and they have been known to sneak in additional surprises). read more
