I contacted several tree removal services for an estimate. I found Joseph Tree Service estimate to be very competitive. But that wasn't why I hired them. They are just very nice people. So I scheduled the job. They arrived promptly. They took great care to protect our property and great care to protect their employees. Watching them professionally take down the tree was like viewing an acrobat show. They carefully selected and then surgically remove large branches which were tied together. They were then carefully lifted out of the tree area and softly lowered to the ground. Once there, they smaller piece were loaded into a chipper, again with great precautions for their employees. They didn't just hand feed it, they tied it to a rope and pulled it in while walking away from the chipper. The larger pieces were carefully picked up and moved to a larger truck. Both the chips and larger pieces will be converted to mulch and firewood. The clean-up was immaculate. There weren't any large pieces or even small pieces anywhere. The entire area was raked and cleaned up. It was like they were never there. Two brothers own the business. They are both fire fighters and paramedics. Many of their other staff are also a part of CFD. Like I said, I would place them on your list to call. You won't be disappointed if you make the same decision I did.

Wednesday I was out of town but called to find out what was happening. She told me she thought they were delivering that day but would call me back. She called me back promptly but told me the wood had already been delivered. I have a 6-foot fence all around my property and somehow they got it into a locked gate? Not real comfortable with that but it was closer to where it would be stacked. However, they managed to break my landscape light, Contacted the owner Tony - And he said he would ask his guys about it. Which can be interpreted as I don't believe you. He never called me back or did anything about it. Also, The firewood was very green. You could watch the water spewing out of each and every log I burned. I received about 10 rotted pieces too. The ad said 400 ( I think 410) pieces I counted the first 200 - and it looked to be the about the right amount. ( It was not a cord) If the guy had bothered to follow up and just had offered to replace my light I wouldn't probably even be here.

I ordered 2 x 1/2 cords of short cut firewood this last October. It was delivered around the time…read morethat they said, which is fine, but hokey smokes (no pun intended) it was short by a lot. I don't mean short cut, I mean that it was short logs AND many of the "logs" were 4-6" in length and not even the thickness of my hand. I had a 3/4 cord rack that was 2/3 full already and a 1/4 cord rack that was half way full, and that delivery barely filled those, it was SO not a real cord of wood (in quality), more like 1/2 cord-ish. The delivery guy seemed to have picked the smallest "logs" (hard to type that without rolling my eyes) to make it easy on himself. To add insult to injury, I bought "seasoned" wood and got wood that looked like it was split on the day of delivery and tested with high water content on two of my meters. When I asked why the delivered pile was so small he said essentially "Not my problem, call the office with questions" and drove off. I contacted and have never heard back. Avoid them.

Our difficulty was going to be finding one slab that was 23" deep. We knew that was a tall ask. A friend of ours suggested we drive out to Johnstown and check out Almendinger Sawmill. We visited on a chilly Friday afternoon and we began by looking around their huge wood yard located in a large barn. We we impressed with the selection and the affordable prices. Everything seemed priced so fair, we almost could not believe it. Our initial plan was just to look. We wanted to get an idea of pricing, what it may cost for us to get what we wanted for our project. Then we met Clint. He is a young, gregarious man that seems to have a vast knowledge of wood and what they have in stock. He showed us many options even though the depth we were asking for was tough. Ultimately he took us to a finished slab of maple wood that was breath taking. I actually ooohhed when Clint revealed the piece. He laughed out loud because I believe he knew he had just made a sale. The price was beyond reasonable so we said we would take it. We have not regretted it since. In fact, we believe we made the best decision by stopping by and checking out Almendinger Sawmill. We are beyond thrilled with our slab of wood and we can not wait to begin our project. We feel so lucky to have met Clint. We are so glad he helped us out that day. We have we used Great Dane Tree Experts five times in the past two and one-half years for jobs…read morebetween one and three days. For a recent job I also obtained estimates from two other professional tree services and found Dane's pricing was competitive. The work Dane and his staff do is excellent. They have always shown up on time, appear to work meticulously and safely and always leave the area looking better than it had when they arrived. The 3-day job they completed for me today was complex and I saw Dane here a good part of each day. The heavy wood close to structures, landscaping and other trees was lowered to the ground using ropes in order to keep control of it and prevent damage. During their work I have had the most contact with James and Scott, who have both always been very polite, considerate of our property, displayed excellent work ethics and watched out for out pets. It is without hesitation I recommend this business.
