Then he said $300 including materials. Then when he showed up he said it was $425 because he had to factor in the cost of driving to Home Depot. Then in the end it was $550 with tax! Over double the original quote. He also never showed up on the scheduled day so I had rebook. When he finally showed up on the rescheduled day he was a half hour late. Then he didn't even finish staining the door trim when he left. Oh, and he was messy and ended up getting wood filler residue on my door that now must be sanded off and restained. The baseboard job was fine. But the door trim repair was shoddy. That, coupled with poor communication and constantly increasing costs, makes me NOT recommend Giovanny.

Picture says a thousand words. I will leave you as the judge for the quality of work from Giovanni base on my photos. Detail: First thing I want to call out is the dishonest pricing. The initial estimate with $720-$800 for seven tasks. Then I was told there's $100 additional material fee. I didn't care, thought it's reasonable. Three tasks were "done" (omitting quality discussion here), he came back another day and ask me for another $400 ($150 for extra material and $250 for labor). I asked him to show me what he's purchased but he never show me the receipt. At the end we mutually agree to not do the last task and he will refund me $250. As of today, he still owe me $250 and it's impossible to get a hold of him now... Another call out is during the process I get tons of last minute delay and no-show. I get all sort of excuses: rain, previous job overran, phone broken. If your job is time critical, please be super careful. My final conclusion: If you have 1) very non-critical job that is 2) not urgent, and you 3) don't care much about quality and 4) have plenty of time to communicate, you can hire Giovanni for his somewhat low price.

At that meeting, we were told we needed to install flooring under the cabinets. After speaking with a contracting friend and two other companies, everyone said that was incorrect. This led me to doubt their professional knowledge and expertise. After the initial meeting, everything started going by the wayside. They missed appointments, were hard to get a hold of, and changed their story. We went from picking out materials to needing another appointment for the contractor to see the home. During the second appointment for measuring and seeing the home, they "measured" by measuring at an extreme angle. The contractor, in charge of demolishing our kitchen, demonstrated no knowledge in how to properly measure (it was NOT an area needing an angle to measure). That was concerning. They also didn't know the business hours of their own vendors. When we decided not to continue with FC Construction, they were honorable in giving us a refund. But when we called to remind them, the owner told us the refund was in the process. The next day, the main company line called and asked for our refund information to issue a refund. So it being "processing" was a lie. I didn't trust them to start any work, so I have no idea how their work is. But I wouldn't recommend based on the many red flags mentioned above. Kind people, though.

Fast Forward to November 2024. My house was hit hard by the Bomb Cyclone. Dealing with the insurance was a headache I was not familiar with. While the photos speak for themselves, for those interested in learning more about our experience, read further. From the get-go, we were very pleased with Daniel's responsiveness. Due to Covid and some logistical issues on our end, our request was conducted via phones and photos. Daniel was prompt, communicative and addressed our concerns. We were concerned about project scope as we couldn't conduct an in home visit (again, due to an issue on our side), however, Daniel had scoped it correctly and there were no last minute bait and switches in pricing, which we appreciate a lot. During the job, Daniel went to great pains to understand the details of our requirements and did a walk through the house to made sure he had got it all right. On the job, he was quick on his feet, yet thorough and precise in his woodwork. When necessary, he went by himself to procure the wood and other materials we needed and ensured he had it all right. He had to come for an extra half day to finish some paint work as it needed time to dry, which he did meticulously again.
