I'm not a mom who is looking to get her kid into hard-core, serious, competitive dance (although they have the trophies to back that up, if that is what you're looking for). I'm just a mom who wanted a social environment for her toddler who loves music, and loves dancing around the house. We did the little 6-week summer classes, and we loved it. We do not have a lot of disposable income. At all. So anything I sign my kid up for, I have to really consider. There's a lot of things we can't afford, but re-enrolling for fall classes wasn't even a question. It may sound silly to say after just 6 classes, but this place already feels like home. Warm and inviting doesn't even begin to cover it. My daughter loves it. I love it. I had no idea I'd have such strong feelings about a dance company after 6 weeks, but here we are.

I do think it could benefit from a bit of a facelift, but the gymnastics area where the kids played during the party (while hitting me hard with 90s nostalgia) was super fun for the kiddos and kept them entertained for the hour or two they spent playing. I found the room for the party to be clean and well set up. It's nice that it's such a big room so you can accomodate a large group. I'm not sure if you can just take kids here to play for a fee or not, but if you can it might not be a bad place to explore on a cold or rainy day to get the wiggles out!

The staff and volunteers are so nice. My daughter enjoys her instructor, Ms Missy. They prorate your tuition if you get in after they've begun. You can even try a class to see if you like it before you enroll. They discourage parents hanging around and potentially distracting the class (with younger kids) but our night class has been great thus far. Since it's dark out, the kids can't really see the parents outside. They start my daughter's class off with tap shoes and then change over to ballet on the latter part of the class. Price is about par with other places around town but we chose it based on longevity and experience.

If you're looking for a barre studio, or you've done yoga/pilates and you're looking for a fun but serious workout studio, this studio should definitely be on your list. Instructors I would recommend to be sure you have a great experience are Lauren, Morgan, and Erin. From the first day I came, they knew my name and gave personalized feedback on how to do better. That said, I rated a bit lower than I normally would because there have been a few very negative experiences here that made me not want to go back. It was mainly just being unnecessarily rude? Which is out of character because the primary things I love about my favorite instructors here is how attentive, encouraging, and detail-oriented they are. If you want examples of the negative experiences I've had, I won't be exhaustive but one example is when I brought a friend to class. Whoever was manning the front desk completely ignored us, and when I asked which room class was in that day, she corrected me on which instructor's class it was without answering the question. My friend felt really unwelcome and I felt terrible that it was her first experience with barre.

Our children also celebrated many of their own birthday parties at Elite gymnastics as well. Our son was coached by an excellent swim instructor - our son needed to get ready for his scout swimming test. The Elite instructor had earned his Eagle Scout rank and he was the absolute best advisor and coach our son could have ever needed! Our daughter's middle name is probably "Elite" - she started gymnastics at age 4 and now she is a senior in high school. She has been part of the Elite Gymnastics family all of her life. They are a second family to us in every way. I have taught youth for 28 years, and I confidently believe: This fantastic gymn has the best team of efficient and caring mentors our children needed. The coaches expect the children to excel and encourage them effectively. Our children developed strong self-esteem and self trust while attending Elite Gymnastics and Aquatics.

It's a step up from what the city offers and is a bit more expensive, but less intense than KC Ballet, which was what I was looking for. The only reason I'm going 4/5 is because the complex is massive and for folks like me that are only coming once a week for a class it was really hard to find where I needed to go on day one and the folks at the front desk had no idea where the dance classes were held. They were very nice though so that did soften the blow. Now that I know where to go it's all smooth sailing and I'd recommend them to others.

It is very disheartening and I will not be returning where I don't feel welcome or respected. The Jewish Community Center is not following their stated values of inclusivity and community. Each time I have visited I've been faced with blatant discriminatory practices. The staff have been downright rude and appear to be very nonchalant when this concern has been brought to their attention. I will not be frequenting this place or spending my money here when the staff can't even give basic respect and kindness.
