We moved to Wise VA in early 2020 and chose this bank to support local business. it had a few…read morequirks we weren't used to in my 45 years of using banks - daily max of $800 on my debit card was one. This issues with fraud shutdown of my cards has been a constant battle. We had 4 shutdowns in a quick row and had to get new cards. Oh wait, our card printer is not working happened several times. Then they decided to shut down their ATM machines and not replace them- but we can get a whole $10 of fees per month reimbursed. Pain in the posterior. At that point, we decided to change banks because of the hassles. Since that point, my card was shut down in November without notice. Another fraud alert supposedly. And then they shut down our business account without notifying us. Because we let the balance sit at $0 for seven days. Now we can't even change the account routing with our eBay business because they need to verify our existing account. Which is closed. I call to complain and get a very defensive "supervisor" that just didn't seem to care that we were having these issues. When she told me that "I'm sorry you feel that way," I took it the same as saying F-you, too bad. I drove over to the bank to close my account in person and guess who I get to deal with. Miss I'm sorry you feel that way. She argued with me for every complaint I brought up. Very defensive. And of course, she was the only supervisor available. Worst bank I've ever dealt with. The things they are doing to supposedly protect my money seem more to protect the bank than with good customer service.

I agreed to open a checking account. I was refused & offered a savings account with a 5 day wait on my check. Hey, idiots! I can't have an account with no money! My mom, who has an account there, offered to let me sign the check over to her. That was still a big fat NO! That's some great customer service right there. I'll never set foot back in that place.

It's not as though St. Paul is a big place and Castlewood a small place. They're both tiny, but those of us who live here can certainly keep them separate in our minds. I have no particular love for big banks, and BB&T is a big one. I feared that at first, but I like the people at this bank (corporate BB&T: take note!). For my needs, the size of the bank really doesn't count; continuity in staff, however, matters hugely. I like and trust Pam and Christine, and they have been at this branch since I started banking there more than a decade ago. I also know, however, that holding on to good staff requires good (or at least not idiotic) management, so I compliment the bank manager, though I don't know her at all. The bank is comfortable for me. All I really require is competence: a bank that doesn't get my account screwed up. But it's nice when you can go to a bank and be called by name, you know? It's nice to actually like the people you interact with rather than simply think, with approval, that they served you well. It's nice to have both.
