I was eager to hire Ben, but he was calm in trouble-shooting my issue via text messaging and a phone call. When I showed him the photo of the Baldwin lockset I wanted to install, he recognized that the holes in my door were drilled for a Schlage lockset. I contacted Ben frantically because I was having issues with my car. He picked up and was super patient. He let me speak and listened to my issue. He was able to provide some advice over the phone but apologized because he wasn't available on the same day to provide the service. He gave me an availability and let me know if I wanted to book it. I told him I would think about it because I needed the issue resolved right away. I gave him a call back maybe half an hour later but he was with another customer so he didn't pick up. Second time using First Bay. Ben is a super honest person who is not in the business of trying to take advantage of you. I had reached out to him because my balcony door was broken. Showed him a picture of a broken part and he quickly identified the broken part as an andersen actuator. He told me to purchase the part on my own and fix it myself. It's no fun being locked out of your own home. Your own place of security is now inaccessible due to a silly, split-second mishap. Darnit, if only I could walk through walls. Or had telepathy. Ben of First Bay to the rescue! He's available 24/7. Dang, and I thought *I* worked long hours. Ben got to my place quickly, tried a few bump keys, and within a few minutes had cracked the "enhanced security" lock that I had installed. He was professional and friendly, and we chatted a bit about how to break into homes. One's own home, of course. The cost for him to come over was $85 (he quoted this over the phone), less than I had feared it would be, and worth the price of not having to sleep on the lawn for the night. First Bay Locksmith gave me my very first excellent car servicing experience, where I didn't feel ripped off or talked down to for being a girl. My car key fell out of my purse the other day and just my luck - it was my only working car key! I was just about to make a new copy too. I called Lexus to see how I could get a new key, and was so bummed from what I heard. They told me Lexus car keys need an extra chip inside in order to start the ignition. So since I didn't have the original anymore, they'd have to reprogram the car's computer chip in order to produce a new key. The damage? $1100 just to reprogram the chip, and an extra few hundred just to get a working key. After understanding what had to be done, I figured I could find someone else who could do the same thing for half the price. Everyone knows you pay about double at the dealership, right? I searched "car keys" on Yelp and First Bay Locksmith popped up, with their whopping 5-star rating and over 200 reviews. Figuring they were my best shot, I called and explained the situation. Ben knew exactly what the issue was, explained what he was going to do, and that the cost would be $350 including 2 fully working car keys. Then he realized that because my car was a 2001, it would be $300 since it's easier to get to the computer chip. How honest of him! I had already been okay with the $350 cost. He asked me where I was, and I told him AAA was on their way to tow my car over to him. He told me it wasn't necessary - he'd come directly to me ASAP and would text 30 min prior to give me a heads up, so I wouldn't be waiting around outside my car. Earlier than expected, Ben arrived in his trusty van and jumped out with all the tools he needed. His van is like a key shop on wheels! All his tools, gadgets, blank keys, and the key cutter were right in his van. He took my computer out while explaining every step, keeping me in the loop. He was so friendly and easy to talk to, and while we were talking he explained that he easily works 12-16 hours a day, driving all over the bay fixing people's keys and locks. What a hard worker! Within 15 minutes, my computer was reprogrammed, I had 2 shiny, new car keys as promised, and Ben even turned my valet key into a fully working car key. All for about 1/4 what Lexus was quoting me - without any keys. Ben is a freaking key and lock rock star! My mom's a real estate agent who deals with tons of rental properties. We were so satisfied with his speedy, accurate and honest work that she's now going to call Ben every time a house needs new locks or keys. Okay...THIS guy, Ben, is The Man (no joke)! He rescued us in the middle of a pretty difficult move when we lost our Uhaul truck key. He managed to get to us in minutes and not only replace the key that was lost but he also made us feel a 1000 times better by saying this happened all the time with rentals because people are out of their normal routine and often lose keys and that he had even had a few of the same jobs that day (side note: Uhaul didn't have an extra key, and even said this did not ever happen and made us feel kind of lame). When he came with the key he had been given the wrong code to create the new one so he fixed it on the spot in minutes and made sure worked in the lock and in the Ignition before he left. So he gets 5 stars and even if there are more he would get that because he not only beat the price by a significant margin with the other competitors, but he got there in record time did an amazing job and made us feel better about the whole thing and was incredibly nice all at the same time . Ben was great! I had him install a smart keypad deadbolt lock on my front door. He had to drill a hole on top of my existing mortise lock and disable it at the same time so that the new deadbolt would be the only functional lock. We lost our work truck key and needed a replacement asap. I looked at Yelp to find a qualified locksmith with a good rating (although I don't always put a lot of stock in these reviews). I called and Ben (the owner) picked up. Very easy to talk to. So we scheduled for him to come by. He showed up early and did the duplicate key (with chip) in less than a third of time he mentioned on the phone. Not only that, he also gave me some guidance on how to get a reimbursement from AAA by creating a special invoice with all the relevant information needed for the submission. Super 5 Stars! Was moving into a new house & needed all the locks re-keyed. I found Ben on Yelp & decided to give him a call based off his 5 Star Reviews. Very happy with everything & will definitely recommend Ben to anyone! Communication: Ben was very good with communication, the number on Yelp goes to his work cell so you can call or text. Ben was very polite, knowledgeable & patient as I had ALOT of questions. Ben gave me lots of recommendations but never pressured me into getting anything I didn't need. Ben emailed me an estimate the next day & I booked the appointment. Ben can also give you an estimate over the phone if you need immediate assistance as well. Personality: When Ben came to do the work; he was very friendly & funny too. It was like a friend coming over to do my locks. Ben was in a good mood the entire time he was there & he seemed to care about his job a lot & took joy in helping people. The Work: After talking on the phone with Ben, I decided to get a High Security Lock installed, Keypad Lock installed, & Re-keying 2 locks. I ended up having a 2nd High Security Lock installed as well & Ben had no problem doing it. Ben was very hardworking & did a very thorough job. Ben explained everything he was going to do before hand & as he was doing it. Ben was very fast as well, he probably completed everything above in about 30-45 minutes. Ben also took a look at my backyard glass doors which didn't need servicing & gave me some advice on how to make them more secured. He vacuumed & swept up his work as well.
