On both occasions, I was stunned at the generous amount of food offered by the church (hand made by their members) that they provide for the blood donors. Tonight, after I donated my 31st pint, there was a Butternut Squash Soup and a really great cup of chili offered. I'm telling you, the chili was excellent- three kinds of beans, corn, and a pretty zippy tomato base. And it was served hot too! But wait there's more! Four kinds of sandwiches served on four types of bread with cheese, lettuce and tomato. It was like ordering at a diner! God bless these generous folks for recognizing the blood donors.

We have raised our family in church, and for the first time ever my younger children have said they understand the application to each sermon preached here at Proclamation. The people are warm, friendly, and authentic. The atmosphere is worshipful, the music God-honoring and done well. There are always some sort of events going on for different age groups- ladies breakfasts, young mom groups, youth events, and men's events. This is a family-friendly church environment. During the morning sermon, there is nursery and children's church provided but you are welcome to keep your children with you as well, and several do so including myself. Outside, they recently built a new playground and put up a tent nearby where parents can fellowship. There are multiple pastors and elders, which follows the biblical pattern. Now I've heard of peace pipes. I've heard of totem poles. But until today, I had I never heard of a Peace Pole. Well it turns out that there was one just a few miles from where I work ! According to the good folks at Wikipedia, "A Peace Pole is a monument that displays the message "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in the language of the country where it has been placed, and usually 3 to 5 additional translations. The message is referred to as a peace prayer. Peace Poles originated in Japan in 1955 and then spread around the globe. Today, peace poles around the world number over 100,000 and can be found in over 180 countries. The First Church in Windsor's Peace Pole was dedicated in 2010 to honor the retirement of Sue Williams after her 12 years of service as their Parish Caring Ministries Coordinator. The pole is located right in front of the church's main entrance. It is a stained redwood pole with carved engravings on all four sides that reads "Let Peace Prevail Upon Earth" in four different languages. The base of the pole is set in a small landscaped square bordered by stone bricks. How cool is this??

Needless to say, I don't have much basis of comparison, but the Church of St. Patrick and St. Anthony is quite a sight to behold. Clearly, downtown Hartford has grown up around this and other churches like it. Long before thousands of fans were worshipping the Whalers across the street at the Civic Center (and apparently not hard enough), local Catholics worshipped Jesus here. I was here for a wedding. Father Tom spoke with incredible poise, and conducted a very nice ceremony. The church itself is impeccably kept. I notice all the reviews so far are 5-star... does Jesus get mad at four-star reviews?
