My husband died recently and I went into the bank with an appointment to bring the certification of my trust and the death certificate to change the title of my checking account. They kept me waiting quite a while despite my having an appointment and despite my bringing the proper paperwork said I had a sign their certification of trust and it had to be notarized but they didn't have a notary and didn't know when they would have one. They said I could travel to another Branch 20 minutes away or go find my own notary. I did bring a certification of trust prepared by my estate attorney that was properly notarized. when you're mourning a spouse you don't want aggravation. Unfortunately, I have a lot of auto pay related to this account so it's too much to close the account and go to a bank where they offered decent service. Understaffed and many of the staff have a bad attitude. I was charged a $10 service fee for a money market account with a bad interest rate because the balance fell below $1,000. it didn't matter that a few days later the balance was over $100,000. Penny wise and pound foolish. Time to go to another bank - ugh! read more

Since the 1st location I went to on Ocean Park still smells like the bathroom pipes exploded I ended up at this Wilshire Blvd location which is a bit hard to find. You can't really see a sign from the street unless maybe coming from the beach. The driveway sign says the place has limited parking and posts rates for your time going thru the gate. Upon entering the bank you'll find the place is enormous. There were 3 tellers waiting for a customer so I approached and asked if this is where I can do a wire transfer. 1 teller wasn't interested. 1 teller tried to send me to a guy at a desk that could do it but I'd be second as a lady was already waiting and she looked impatient like she had been there awhile. The 3rd teller said she would try to do the transfer and asked me 5 times if it was a domestic or international transfer. After answering the question for the 5th time she told me that I'd need to have it done before 1p. The time currently was 10:50am. I decided to not waste her or my time and avoid any mistakes and to schedule an appointment to come back and get it handled. I asked 4 times if I could make an appointment and still walked away with no appointment time as the lady was offended that I didn't want to take any chances using her unsure skills. You keep sending me letters about over withdrawn to my personal address and I told you to not do that. I have an email that you can send me rather physically. I want to close my account because I'm tired of being treated so badly. I specifically said to send either email or private mailbox and never to my personal address, period! Even though my private mailbox address is on file does not mean that you ignore it and send to my personal address. I just couldn't find a good day to go over because when I get off from doing the caregiving job, I need to head straight home. I don't like any banks that doesn't comply with my requirements! You need to wake up and follow strict guidelines from your customers!!!! Also no one answers on Twitter anymore so please don't join Twitter. Honestly one of the worst experiences ever. I called Tarzana branch, they were to busy. they actually referred me to Encino Branch. However Encino wouldn't let me speak with anyone regarding my issue. Santa Monica wouldn't even open an account after I provided everything they asked just to open an account. YES! that's right!! I don't even have an account here! they don't accept new LLC's which is fine. mine is over 2 years old. I even provided bank statements from my current bank showing transaction history. The excuse they used was "You don't live in the area so unfortunately we can not open an account" my response to that is.... I turned in my paperwork, it had my address, I told you why I'm here and not my local branch. So why even take information??? why not tell me then? this smells like something more. perhaps I was profiled. it seems like it didn't even matter what I showed there would be a reason. read more

I just wished to share that I had the most amazing customer service with OneWest Bank and Jennifer. After opening up an account, I have been traveling abroad and needed help to get everything set up and working. I called from out of the country and someone actually answered the phone - Jennifer. She was polite and informed - she took 15 mins of uninterrupted time to help me set up online banking, Zelle etal. It was really touch to speak with a live rep who knew the system and my account and was so willing to help. If you are looking for friendly and accessible banking/bankers in the Los Angeles area - I highly recommend them. Way to go OneWest Bank at 401 Wilshire!!! read more

Zero star if possible, the WORSE customer service I have ever had from a bank. Received an invoice from the last bank and paid it. When presented to this "new" bank trying to access my safe deposit box, they told me the price has gone up and if I do not pay the difference plus the late fee, I cannot go to my safe! Called the wife on phone and she stated she had spoken with a staff already and the problem was taken care of. I GUESS NOT! Spoke to the manager to waive the late fee and I paid the new rental rate difference. Fast forward to my wife's visit, they wanted the late fee, the manager NEVER did credit the late fee into the account. One CANNOT build a business this way! Will never bank with them, ever. Frontline staff have no choice but to implement company policies. I hold the management responsible for poor customer service. Btw, this review is on First Citizen. This is the second time a teller at this bank has mistyped someone else's checking account number so that the check their payee was depositing ended up coming out of my account instead of the one listed on the check in question. The first time was back when it was still One West Bank, and while their customer service managed to fix the error, when I called this branch to look into the matter of individual accountability, even the assistant manager acted like a simple apology should have been sufficient to excuse the mistake of almost $400 missing from my account. There was no promise to hold responsible the person who had actually made the mistake or even to identify the person on their end. FCB customer service was similarly very helpful in reversing the mistake today, and they took it upon themselves to investigate the issue at the branch level, but it is inexcusable that such a mistake could happen at all, let alone twice. read more

first Citizens Bank has BAD SVC. Mgr at Ocean Pk is a no-show. There is a Filipino Look ady at front desk, one has to make appt to see her. She has no idea what she is doing. Avoid this bank like the plague. Mohammed will not help you in any circumstance. Even if you've had multiple accounts, referrals, ect. These guys do not care about anyone, do not hand them your money. Withdraw what you have. read more

Horrible customer service is guaranteed in this branch. Not only the staff don't know what they are doing, they are so rude. Rozita was the banker helping me, she lacks even basic banking and loan knowledge and on top of that can't even communicate in English. Banking has changed and I feel terribly scared by having my financial matters in hands of such ignorant people. read more

Indifferent customer service is a guarantee here. And the attitude of apathy is everywhere. Today while entering and exciting with a double stroller that was difficult to get in the door the security guard sat by the door on a stool and glanced up but couldn't be bothered to offer up basic common courtesy. The 5 stars are for the staff at the bank, always so helpful in person and on the phone. I've only just opened accounts there a year and a half and the only problem I've had is with their website. Avoid this branch. Scott Roe was useless in person for correcting a bank application error on their end. He gave me his card when he couldn't help; I guess so I'd leave and we could discuss this at a later date? And he's the VP; what a joke. No Customer Service. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME APPLYING FOR A REAL ESTATE LOAN FROM ONE WEST BANK - THEIR SYSTEM IS FUNDAMENTALLY BROKEN. The branch personnel cannot represent or work with the central underwriting department. Don't believe anything they tell you. We got an email from them saying "you need to wait 12 weeks from purchase to refi after an all cash purchase." Then, 9 months after the purchase, they said "you need to start your application (that we already approved) over again, because, well, our rule is really 6 months, and even though it's been nine months, the date on your application from 5 months ago was only 5 months after the closing date, so you need to start everything all over again - with paystubs, and rent checks, etc." This was the the latest chapter in a nightmare cycle of "we need paystubs from you again (even though you do direct deposit), because the last time we got them from you was more that two months ago." This bank was scandal-plagued IndyMac until some private equity guys bought it for a song in 2009. Nothing wrong with that, I guess .... but know that it is fundamentally broken, it can't make or keep commitments, and you should not believe anything the dis-empowered local branch employees tell you. I have been a decades long customer of One West Bank - I finally decided to run a refinance through them, for the ease of making my payments at this branch, with the personnel I am used to dealing with on a regular basis - I paid almost $6,000 MORE for the loan, over going to an on line refinance broker. I made ONE payment, and they sold my loan - to some off shore POS loan company (Roundpoint Mortgage) - This was after they at first sold it to CIT Bank- So they sold it TWICE in 60 days - Making a payment with the new schlocker is impossible, as they are in the Phillipines and the reps cannot even speak english - the One West loan personnel sold me a total bill of goods. I am looking to pull all of my accounts out of this branch and am irate that every month, the payment process to the Phillipines is next to impossible - Stay away from this bank!! read more

The service here is incredibly slow and bad. Also, considering the location is Santa Monica near the beach, you'd think they'd update and upgrade their technology. There's only two tellers working daily regardless how busy it gets. They have no consideration for customers who have accounts there. They can't even recognize their regular customers nor do they really care it seems. The mood there is unfriendly and not very helpful. Everyone who works there seems bored or tired of being there. I go to this unfortunate branch and get treated like I don't have an account there. They make it difficult to cash a check even with an account. Especially, this one almost bald thin guy who works there. He doesn't say good morning nor apologizes and makes everyone wait for a long time. I was not impressed by his level of service that I can't even remember his name. My last visit, he took his time while the other teller walked away for some time. Customers were waiting in line for a long time. This bank branch can be almost empty and he'll take the same amount of time. There's no urgency nor efficiency. It's so annoying! I waited a long time to get attended and he didn't resolve anything nor did he make an attempt to be helpful. All that waiting for nothing, no thank you! Seriously...I even got better service at Bank of America without an account there after I left which is down the street... lol. read more
