I got quotes from 3 garage door companies for the repair. The first two companies said my garage door (a Wayne Dalton) was discontinued so they could not get parts. So, they could only quote me for a new door, (@$3,000) which of course, would not match my two other doors. Lavi of Lavish garage door service (named after his grandmother) came to give me a quote. He told me he might be able to get the parts from Wayne Dalton as he had a special relationship with them. He contacted them and they fabricated the two door panels to perfectly match my door. The doors were shipped to their faculty in Orlando so he had to drive there to pick them up. He said that would not be an extra charge for the pickup. I was so pleased to get the repair done at considerably less cost with a repaired door that perfectly matched my current garage doors. I called AMerica's Garage Doors and the owner said she would call back the next day when she could ensure a tech in the area. She never did. When I called her - she said - " we don't service your area anymore". So in other words they will sell and service when there are making a sale but not to repair. My invoice stated there should be four struts, but only two were installed--one at the top, one at the bottom, leaving the center unsupported. I contacted the company, and Chris, a partner, agreed that missing struts caused the crack in two panels. After discussions with the manufacturer, we settled on $300 for replacement panels, though I felt this was unfair given the original mistake. Despite this, I agreed and waited. After a month, I called back, spoke to the company president (who promised a callback), then a repairman returned and replaced the panels. When it came to pay, I was presented with an invoice for $400 instead of the agreed $300. The invoice listed $300 for parts and $100 for labor, though labor was never previously discussed with Chris. After some back-and-forth, I was told there would be no warranty on anything. I wrote a $300 check as promised. The repair person did quality work, but I was frustrated that I had to pay for correcting an original installation mistake. I expected the company to stand behind its work. They stand behind nothing and use unprofessional tactics to make you feel dirty every time they leave. Check the BBB rating.
