Very nice people. Helpful. They have a large selection. The cost of items are pretty much the same as others in the county. If they don't have what you are looking for, they will order it. I bought one in store and one by them ordering. They offer tests to make sure you are ready to handle their products. I purchase a firearm from Budsgunshop and got approved by Collin from First Defense Firearms to send to them. After coming in the mail the gun was damaged. There were nicks all over the gun. On the slide, in the mag well, all around. I asked Collin to send the gun back two weeks ago later to find out today they still have the gun and my account continues to be charged. The owner laughed in my face. Said ill get to it when I get to it. The shipping label sits in their email and once again the refuse to ship it back. read more

I recently purchased a long gun on GunBroker.com. When selecting which FFL to have the weapon sent to, First Defense in Los Osos was listed and used them as my "ship to" address and FFL dealer. I did read the review from Pranqster regarding the "negative" experience with a recent FFL weapon transfer from another dealer to First Defense. However, if you read the Google reviews on First Defense, they have a 4.9 rating from 16 reviewers..... very positive. I stopped by a couple days ago to see for myself.......BEFORE I initiate a FFL weapon transfer. The staff there are very friendly, knowledgeable and willing to take the time to meet your shooting needs. Stopped by First Defense this morning to drop off a copy of my online purchase and to request they email their FFL to the dealer where I completed the online sale. The transaction had already been completed prior to my arrival. Apparently the dealer contacted First Defense and requested an email copy of their FFL in order to ship and complete my online transaction. Everything was completed prior to me coming in to notify First Defense of my transfer request. I felt it was important to share my review in light of the negative experience Pranqster Z. had with First Defense. It could not have been easier! Very pleased and a happy camper. D. read more

How is it possible to pack so much value into such a small store? I had an obscure AR-15 problem and everyone in the area said "First Line". I drove out expecting very little and was stunned by the breathe of parts and selection and well as the keen interest in solving my problem. I am not a big gun enthusiast - my husband is. I've been to a lot of firearms shops because of this. I've gone shooting and just didn't find it fun or worth a lot of my time because of the environment. When I walked into this place, I felt totally different. My recent experience at First Defense Firearms was worse than poor, it was insulting, and should be a warning to potential customers. I visited the shop on a Monday for a simple ffl transfer and was assured that it would be handled quickly. It was not, there was no action taken for an entire week while I waited. In fact, the other ffl dealer, who received my money order two days after I mailed it, could not process my purchase because of First Defense's inaction, and eventually suggested that I find another shop to handle the transaction! The lack of communication I encountered was irritating and frustrating. After no response to two emails, a phone message, two in person visits and several text messages, I still had no response. Each time, the salesperson contacted the owner, Mike, who promised to expedite the paperwork and text me when it was done. The entire week passed with my purchase waiting to be shipped with ZERO responses. Because of this experience, I feel ignored and insulted. I work for a local law enforcement agency, but at this point I cannot recommend them to my colleagues and will be sharing this experience with them. I support local businesses but this experience was the definition of unprofessional. Be advised, and look elsewhere for your firearm needs. FYI: I eventually went to Rangemaster in SLO, and they handled it in 15 minutes. Im not kidding, 15 MINUTES! Thats how you earn my business. read more
