Not just the government that screws the gun owners of CA over. I've been going to the Outdoorsman for the past 15 years over that course of time where several owners have owned it. The current owner clearly wants to take advantage by charging $25 just to hand someone the ammo they ordered. Bad enough the government makes us ship ammo to the gun shop, but when the shop owner is just as bad as the government with its excess fees for just wanting to utilize a constitutional right afforded to us by the constitution. Nice selection of guns however when I purchased 2 on Sept. Derick didn't fill out paperwork for background check. I've been waiting and I'm 4-5 hours away. Why would he not start my background check when buying a new firearms as it is the law. Now I have to go back down five hours. Get fingerprinted. Fill it out and wait another 10 days. I purchased a Springfield armory hellcat micro compact 9MM from them recently and they are very friendly and knowledgeable regarding all types of firearms. Brought the Firearm back to them in order to have some minor repairs done along with sighting the new green dot. Waited 5 months for a call they said they would make when they got their license.... no call. I went in today to pick up ammo, and they wanted $25 just for the transfer!! The legally should have never accepted the stuff without a license... Now I have to file complaint with CADOJ just to get my property. There are only a few gun shops on the Central Coast, but of all that I have visited, this one is the best, so far. They're not the biggest. They don't have the largest stocks...of anything. Its certainly not the fanciest. What makes this shop the best is the owners and their attitude towards their customers. ANY shop can special order anything for you, and a lot of things can be purchased online, accessory-wise. The young couple that own this shop seem to really care about their customers, and, in the parlance of 'the country', they're downright neighborly! I cannot believe how I was Forgotten and not thought of? Well over several months I came in to the store and asked where is the rifle I had for Sale? For months the staff said I do not know you'll have to check back later. Finally I found out it was sold five or six months earlier, and I still needed to make three additional trips to the store to get paid. I really thought ,this was my go to store . For my Local sportsman shopping, I will be shopping Turner's in the future. The previous owner of the store was a serious jerk, and made it sound like he was doing you a favor talking to you. You know that local shop (ice cream, sandwich, coffee, etc) where you walk in for the first time as a "customer" and you walk out 20min later because your 3min purchase turned into a 15min conversation with your new best friend? Yep, that's The Outdoorsman. I went in on the recommendation of my friend Jake and walked out feeling like I'd just made two new best friends. Dylan and Stephanie are just the most down to earth, humble, friendly, and helpful people and I was happy to bring my business here. For a medium sized shop I was surprised at the pricing, it was actually quite competitive compared to the big boxes (honestly, is it *really* worth saving 10-20 bucks to drive two hours to the mega-stores?) and they had every single kind of ammo I could need (only needed .45 on this day but they could literally feed every firearm I own- that convenience is worth a lot, considering how close to home they are!). Also found a few less common firearms, which was pretty cool, nice to see someone carrying more than just the typical lineup...almost makes me wonder if I need another toy??? ;) Final benny to this shop is that it's right next door to Red Dirt coffee (also a 5-star place!), so I can get two of my favorite fixes in one trip. Go grab a cup of coffee and check out the best gun shop on the central coast (i've been to them all- trust me, this is the one), you won't be sorry. This was my first time purchasing a firearm, definetly not the first gun shop ive been in though. I'll start by saying stehpanie did more then her part to help me with some questions i had after i bought the gun. I was told that there was a special and i would receive 3 additional magazines from the manufacturer, well upon filling out my info on the website it told me I wasnt eligible, i called in and stephanie did some digging for me and got back to me with an some sad but then great news, my gun was the only one not in the special, but found that its eligible for a promotion coming this month. I don't know why there are such praised reviews about this place??? I had to give this place a one star which it is not deserving of? Otherwise, it wouldn't let me post this review. My buddy and I went in there just when they opened and we were not even acknowledged at all?? Completely ignored?? Maybe they didn't have their coffee or Monster drinks? Still though customer service sucks! And when we went to the counter to look at their handgun display, completely ignored again? When we walked away from the counter whoever they were behind the counter(husband and wife) were gesturing remarks about us with direct eye contact and grinning. I guess Asian and Hispanic customers they profile as what, gangsters?? Gee, did we look the part?? We noticed as well while we were still in the store they were completely receptive and accommodating to Caucasian customers we noticed only,,,,hhhhhmmmmm??? Sounds like and looks like they only pick certain ethnicity for customers to help?? Store is disorganized and the owners need to pull the wool back from over their eyes!
