I am writing this review due to the large number of very low review that I have seen about…read moreRiverSource. In August 2023 my step-father went into a memory care facility and the price was unbelievably high. He had a RiverSource long-term care policy...so we immediately started reading online reviews. It wasn't pretty. We were expecting the absolute worst from them based on what people had written. It is now over nine months later and RiverSource has been the exact opposite of what I had read in so many reviews. They answer their phone when I call. They help with anything I don't understand. They give clear explanations of their claim processes. They have paid every single dollar we have expected...never paying late. They didn't try to delay or or deny. Quite the opposite in fact. I couldn't be more glad to give them a great rating. RiverSource has been absolutely awesome. I say this having spoken with their customer service many times...and mailing/faxing forms. RiverSource has processes that must be followed...and the processes are very reasonable. Not once have I had the slightest problem...and they have consistently paid every monthly invoice for the memory care facility. I'm sure there are reasons for all these poor reviews, but my experience with them has been great each time. -Tom J 5/28/2024

I have been managing my 93-year-old father's long-term care policy with RiverSource for over five…read moreyears, and the experience has been nothing short of frustrating and exhausting. My father has faithfully paid into this policy for over 30 years, and yet every single month I am forced to battle an inefficient and seemingly purposeful reimbursement process just to receive the money he is rightfully owed. Despite numerous documented complaints and specific recommendations for process improvement over the years, absolutely nothing has changed. RiverSource continues to rely on phone calls, voicemails, and physical mail to communicate, which creates unnecessary delays at every turn. It feels less like a customer service process and more like a deliberate strategy to hold onto money as long as possible before paying out legitimate claims. What is most disheartening is that the people navigating this process on behalf of elderly policyholders are family members and caregivers who are already managing enormous responsibilities. The last thing we need is an insurance company that prioritizes checking administrative boxes over actually resolving issues in a timely and compassionate manner. My father is 93 years old. He has paid into this policy faithfully for decades. He and his family deserve better than this. If I could switch providers, I would do so without hesitation. Unfortunately, given his age and the policy he has held for so long, that is simply not a realistic option. RiverSource should be ashamed of the way they treat elderly policyholders and their families. No one who has paid faithfully into a long-term care policy for thirty-plus years should have to fight this hard every single month just to be reimbursed what they are owed. Do better.

Ultimately very good but communication could be improved. Initial travel used for booking retired…read morebut I wasn't notified until I called to arrange making final payment. Was transferred to another agent who I had to actively pursue to get a response. When she finally called she was pleasant and helpful. There was an important deadline involved for payment and I was concerned about missing it. I will probably give the new agent another try but will need to set expectations for timely communication.

My car would not start after work on 1/20 and my AAA roadside assistance has stiffed me for three…read moredays!! My car has been dead in the ramp at work for three days when all I need is a jump start. I have called AAA multiple times and been told if I am not freezing to death I am not a priority. But if I am freezing I should hang up and call 911. Yes I know it is cold out. That is no surprise and that's why people pay for this service ; so they have someone to help them when it's winter and their car won't start. It is up to AAA to have adequate resources to take care of their customers even during a couple days of cold weather. The agreement is not "only if you are freezing". I've been given two different "appointments" but the drivers show up at random times and leave if I'm not right there. We agreed on 12-2 and he calls at 9:30 expecting me to be there. I work at a hospital I cannot run out at a moments notice. I explained that from the start. Then after giving me two appointments (they called it an "appointment") I'm told "we don't have appointments". Ive had to take Uber to and from work three times. $50+ to get to work at 7 am!! Almost as bad as a few years ago when AAA left me stranded all night outside at a closed gas station. I called twice for a lockout starting at 11:30pm. Nobody ever showed. I sat there all night by myself. Do not waste money on AAA. They do not come through when you need them. A complete rip-off.
