We absolutely love coming here because the staff is so incredibly friendly and helpful. They all seem to genuinely care about your pets and you can't beat the prices. I wish they had a better treat selection, but they have enough that you can find something for even the pickiest of eaters. All in all, top of our list as favorite pet store and we look forward to bring our dogs here every month when it's time to restock.

Given that we have a child with special needs, we believed a pet would provide great therapeutic benefits. We were searching for extra love to share with our young son and our family. I emailed them the morning of our visit (02/23/25) to inform them of our arrival and mentioned three cats we had seen on their website that we wanted to meet. I received a response from Debbi Larkin, welcoming us to come and inviting us to bring our children (two boys, nearly six years old and two years old). Upon our arrival, we were greeted warmly and engaged in small talk while I completed the adoption form and agreed to all fees, should the adoption take place. My family then proceeded to the backroom area, where we washed our hands and patiently took turns going inside to meet the cats--one parent and one child at a time. We were respectful to all the cats and staff members. We were thrilled when we met Celine, an eight-month-old kitten who we thought had been waiting to be adopted (more on that soon). Debbi expressed her disappointment that Celine and others had recently been overlooked when two new long-haired cats arrived earlier that month. After spending time in the rooms with the other cats, we decided that Celine was the one for us! She had been curious and watched our family through the door, rubbed up against my hand and my older son's, also rolled over to show her belly for rubs. I inquired about the next steps and was informed that they needed to call "the board" for application approval and then contact our personal reference, whom Debbi already knew well. We were also told that we could come by later that evening or on Monday, even though they were closed, to pick up the cat and take her home. However, we did not hear back from them until this morning, when I was informed that our application had not been approved by the board. Although the eight-month-old kitten we wished to adopt was technically old enough according to their "rules," they did not want us to take her home because we had young children. This experience not only wasted our time but also took advantage of our hope. Our reference was never contacted. We felt insulted and judged, and were told that a kitten was unsuitable for our household, and that we should consider adopting an older cat instead. Debbi then attempted to recommend other shelters to me, which I declined. What does it take to impress these people? Do they genuinely want these cats to be adopted? Given their surplus, it seems they would prefer to keep them for themselves. They made a mistake by turning away a loving family who would have cared for Celine for the rest of her long life.

Dr…read more Davis performed my girl rabbits spay last year and she was so kind and informative during the whole process, especially since it was a risky procedure due to her age, but they gave her their all and now her life has been extended. Had I went somewhere else, the spay probably wouldn't have be a success. I just brought my girl and my boy back recently and it was a great experience. We saw Dr. Colella and Dr. Davis again and both were great! Highly recommend bringing your rabbits here. Due to inflation, the prices have gone up but I think they're still cheaper than a lot of other places. Prices for exotics are always going to be expensive but here you're getting top quality care

PLEASE BRING YOUR BIRD ELSEWHERE. I brought in my cockatiel Luna in as an emergency visit 2 days…read moreago. She was weak, not eating, and spitting up water. Island Exotics determined she had a respiratory infection. They drained the mucous, gave her an antibiotic injection, Vitamin A and gave her fluids and food. Smiling, (and $500 later) they sent her home with pro-biotics and a positive outlook. Fast-forward 24 hours and Luna is doing worse- on the floor of her cage, very weak. I call the Island Exotics immediately describing her condition but THEY REFUSED TO SEE HER! They told me to find an emergency vet elsewhere. I explained that they already know her and her condition but they didn't care. They absolutely refused and wouldn't even advise me to what was happening. No sympathy at all. Luna died a few hours ago. Despite her perking up last night a bit and eating, she woke up barely alive. Please don't let this happen to your feathered friend. I will never EVER go back there again. Shame on me. My first red flag was 6 months ago when I brought in my new African Grey (in my ownership less than 24 hours) because he was panting like a puppy, wheezing and bobbing his head. After sending IE a video, they said to bring him in immediately. Once I arrived they did blood work and examined him. They determined he was perfectly healthy and said they had no idea why he was behaving that way. $350 later and confused as hell, I posted my video of him on a FB Parrot Social Group. IMMEDIATELY hundreds of people (Not exaggerating) commented and laughingly told me he was in heat, this is typical hormonal mating behavior, and he had "The Hots" for me. (I didn't recognize this behavior as I had owned the bird for only a day and he is my first African Grey.) The FB group was incredulous that a Vet didn't recognize this common behavior and strongly recommended I see somebody else in the future. For those of you wondering why on earth I went there a second time, they were recommended by the Long Island Parrot Society. In my opinion, I attributed their previous incompetence to not having their bird specialist in on the day I brought in my African Grey parrot. I was desperate for emergency help for Luna and I called them first. Shame on me for giving them a second shot. I made a horrible decision and now have to live with it.
