So I don't know much about the farm but I do know it's female owned and operated! Which makes me happy. I showed up at 7:30 pm to attend Baby Goat Yoga (which I highly recommend). I immediately got a great vibe with the brightly painted barn and sky blue house. Let's go back to goat yoga. Basically it's yoga floor moves with darling baby goats that pose for pics and want to be cuddled. It's just another way to be at one with the earth. I throughly enjoyed my instructor and the environment. Now back to the farm...it's a not for profit farm that has children classes and first time farmers. They offer an array of vegetables for sale using the honors system. They have a red box outside that you deposit $ in. In all this place was a breath of fresh air and I'm definitely going back! Great mission at this non profit farm! I went here as a chaperone with my son and his 2nd grade class Thursday and it was not just educational but also fun, even for us grown folks! They teach children the concept of composting, growing sustainable produce and sharing what they grow. The kids were able to feed the goats and chickens as well as pick worms from the compost bins (gross/cool). I noticed a review several months back complain of no sanitation station. During our field trip everyone was ready for us AND they had a hand washing station near the entrance/exit. They also shared the additional goal of the farming industry to bring in young people interested in farming. The average farmer in America is 58 years old and it's a grueling career! read more

Had so much fun at First Generation Farmers in Brentwood! He had a blast learning about everything from the plant, dirt, worms to goats and chickens. Such a fun place for kids and adults. They even have a farm stand where you pay what you can and take what you need. Highly recommend. read more

Went here for my son's field trip yesterday, I may consider returning in the future. First, off be prepared to wear boots/galoshes. It is a REAL farm and they do not scatter hay in walkways like the "touristy" farms do. You WILL step in poop and yes, it does smell. When we first arrived, no one was there to greet us and they apparently did not put the schools reservation on the schedule. Three separate people came up to the teacher asking for her confirmation email. Keep in mind we PAID to visit this farm so I was pretty surprised they just "forgot" to put us down. Apparently this was a first for them. After about 30 minutes going back and forth and waiting at the picnic tables we had our tour guide. Our tour guide (forgot his name) was FANTASTIC. He kept all of the kids engaged, spoke to them in terms they understood and I could tell they really enjoyed learning from him. He taught them about aromatics that warded off bugs, instead of using pesticides, showed them the green house and taught them the best way to plant seeds. We then went to the compost heaps (fyi this was quite smelly) and the children learned that it was very labor intensive and the best types of items to put in there. Now onto the animals... We got to feed the chickens and see some of the hens that laid eggs. There was a lot of chicken poop around (as to be expected, and again very smelly), but sadly, no stations for the kids to wash their hands. They were constantly picking up rocks, sticks and shells that were on the ground which of course had touched the chicken poop. The kids did get to feed the chickens by hand and also pet one. We then went over to a pen with rabbits and was told their poop was one of the best fertilizers. From there we were shown where some young fruit trees were and also were told how you could graft branches from other trees to have multiple types of the same fruit (pretty cool!). We saw a bee hotel and an area they had set up for burrowing owls. Once we got to the goat and sheep pen, this is where I felt things went downhill and FAST. Our tour guide was still doing a great job at keeping the kids engaged and teaching them about the goats. They had us walk into the pen which was FILTHY. It had rained the previous day which probably contributed to this, but you were standing in a good 1/2 inch to an inch of urine, feces and mud. I had a very difficult time not gagging and could see the kids, once again, grabbing things off the ground (as kids do), kneeling, and using their hands for balance. Several kids tennis shoes were covered in the feces/urine/mud mixture and also had this on their pants and sweaters. This is the point where I was upset. They could have done 3 things: 1) Thrown some hay in the pen for the kids to stand on 2) Brought a couple of goats out of the pen 3) Skipped this portion all together There was no mat or boot brush for us to clean off our shoes and I was done with the tour at this point. I hope that in the future the farm invests in some hand washing stations and keeps the health of others in mind. I will try going again, especially for some of the summer programs - but really hope they make the field trips more sanitary and give the visitors the option of washing their hands. read more

I love this farm, I don't know anything about whether or not their produce is organic. However, they are a non profit organization and I feel a one star review is just not fair. They are community driven and donate the majority of their crop. I love their Zinfandel grapes and towards the end of the season I pick some to take home and make my own wine. Maybe one day I'll grab some of the Chardonnay. I've seen them at Hannah Nicole helping with some of the events, always upbeat and full of energy. They host school field trips and even visit local schools amongst other groups. I'm hoping to come help harvest one of these Fridays, I believe that would be a wonderful experience for my children. A free box full of crops is given away to everyone that helps harvest...love it. read more

Okay so here we go: I came to this farm to Wwoof. I stayed for about two days there. The people are very nice & welcoming. BUT! They are claiming that they are Organic. Which is not true. They are not Organic. The founders families work for Monsanto. They do not support Organic culture or it's practices that they claim to be. First Generation Farms is not certified organic. Even the certification for organic is not up to par with serious organic standards. So not passing the certification process for organic growing is pretty bad. When i was out on the field i witnessed monsanto workers on the land in protective white suits spraying "round up ready" chemicals. Even found a "round up ready" manual in the dirt. Us true Organic supporters all know the dangers & toxicity of this. They spray chemicals & plant seeds from monsanto's catalogue. It contaminated everything. So it was a disappointment to witness such deceit. First Generation Farms is NOT Organic & is connected to Monsanto. So the folks who are strict & follow true organic standards: stay clear from First Generation Farms because their practices is not Organic. If you work there your health is at risk due to chemical exposure & if you eat their food your health is at risk as well. The #Truth will always rise. read more
