They delete your linked account you funded a CD to make closing out the CD at renewal a pain so you get frustrated and just let it renew. If you call customer support, they will not close the CD without a written letter sent. After re-linking an external account, the self service banking app will not let you cancel renewal because it's in the "renewal process". Never again will I bank at First Internet Bank read more

I logged in, set a bill to be paid. a couple days later, I got an email that they cancelled the transfer. I tried to login. login fail. email reminder (forgot email) - no email ever arrived. called both phone number and chat and they said they closed my account and my deposit will be refunded later in the week (so no access to my money) I asked for reason they did not contact me about their decision to close my account and they had no answer. 25+ yr customer and now Nightmare! David Becker has abandoned principles that made him, FIB. Was Faithful FIB business and personal customer for over 25 yrs. In just 3 weeks, they completely trashed their reputation and all 6 of our bank accounts. Deleted already confirmed bill pays, over paid one bill by $32,500 and told "sorry, you'll have to call the company we overpaid and tell them to send it back"!!!! Yes, they really said that! Deleted our payroll account and deleted 25 years of vendors we have paid through this bank. FInd another bank. The list goes on and on. read more

I have been using First Internet Bank almost from the very beginning and love i! It is the easiest way to quickly deposit checks and pay bills. My only complaints are that there is no telephone support on Sundays and that the Zelle daily limit is to low. I am totally surprised by all the negative reviews but I have never had a mortgage with them. I have always found customer service to be very good. read more

I truly understand the negative reviews. I attempted to open a Business Account with First Internet Bank, at the advise of a current customer, only to be strangely denied. When I contacted Chex Systems (and pulled my online report as Chex Systems requested), as well as checked my credit score, I found there was absolutely nothing negatively reported (absolutely clean), and nothing wrong with my credit score. After calling to see if someone would shed a little light- that proved equally discouraging (I was instructed to resubmit the application). I had a money market account with them for some time so I chose them to handle my new home mortgage. The single point of contact I worked with was fantastic but there were some issues, in my opinion. I did not get the best rate after seeing what was available on bankrate.com. I needed assistance from someone one day to ensure paperwork was processed on time. We already had moving plans that could not be changed and contractors lined up to do work and I needed to know that wouldn't be impacted. I was told there was no one who could assist me and when I was not satisfied that response, they just hung up on me. There were enough funds in my money market account to buy the house outright but I chose to do a loan so I could immediately use some of the funds for needed repairs. The amount of paperwork to prove I had collateral seemed excessive. At one point they wanted a confirmation that the good faith deposit check had cleared the bank which I provided at least two different ways but they would not accept it and ended up not processing it which caused problems for the title company. One person did leave a message with me to go over my concerns and I left a return message with the best times to contact me but never heard from them again. I guess I should be grateful for this experience as I have since found a money market account that is earning significantly more. read more

Unbelievable. Attempted to open a business checking account and was denied based "in whole or in part" on the ChexSystem report. After pulling the report and seeing absolutely nothing derogatory, I attempted many times to contact someone who could explain to me why I was denied. I run several businesses and have 800+ credit score so I felt it was denied on a technicality. After receiving the runaround on calls for days, I attempted to apply again. Same response. I emailed Justin W. "relationship banker", after he repeatedly did not respond to my calls. Here was his response: "We will not be providing any further information regarding your declination. Please do not contact us regarding this declination any further." It seems others have had a similar experience but I was shocked at their response. First Internet Bank does not value individuals and that tells me they will not value my time, money, or business. Went through the onboarding requirements to open a Small Business Checking account for or recently formed Close LLC. Finally was approved to open account on June 4th. Great! I had bought in to the "convenience and unparalleled support" as touted on the FIB website. Was also happy to learn of their new SBA Lending hire ,Pam Scott, with a focus on outreach to small business and minority owners. A $600 opening deposit was made shortly thereafter. On advice of CPA, we opened a second account with another bank in order to keep the monthly recurring bill payments on auto-draft separate from the Operations account at FIB. Inasmuch as we still had not received a debit card from FIB, on 7/9/20 I requested to wire-out funds to the new account so I could pay the bills from a BUSINESS account instead of my personal account. A requirement of the IRS. Dawn Couse , 'Relationship Banker', contacted me to confirm all the pertinent info as one would expect of such transactions. I let Dawn know that I needed to get this next round of bills paid and still had not received a FIB debit card so the transfer was necessary. As of the morning of 7/10/20 the wire had not been received by the other bank. I called and left a couple messages for Dawn, who was on lunch. Patiently waited to here from her. No rush, just tidying up the week. Next thing I know, at 4:52pm, I get multiple emails from FIB that they decided to "Exit the Banking Relationship" under the guise of "Know Your Customer Laws". Whaaaaat? How about all the onboarding, and phone confirmation of the requested transaction, which was required to be faxed to their office in the first place? Where is the "unparalleled support" of their customer? If there were questions, why were they not asked? Why didn't our deposit get returned IMMEDIATELY? Understand, as the Manager of the new LLC, I am still working 2 other jobs personally IN ORDER TO SURVIVE THE WORLDWIDE PANDEMIC. The company I am contracted to as an employee was HIT HARD (Charter Bus Service) and is likely going to go out of business before the end of the fall. So, being of entrepreneurial spirit, the LLC was started. Did I mention it is a Woman-Owned Business? Did I mention we are trying to get a business up and running DURING A WORLDWIDE PANDEMIC? How embarrassing it was to have to contact our primary Client and ask him to 'hold off' sending us our first check due to this nonsense. We had been working under contract many months ( Medical Technology applicable to Covid and TBI) and are due to reap what we have sown. How ridiculous to have been put in this position. So much for FIB's "Relationship Banker". I guess First Internet Bank is not that interested that we will likely need a banking partner to deposit at least a 6 figure sum when our contract is paid? Incompetent customer service. Filled out an online application for a money market account. After three days of no response, called and was promised someone would call the next day to complete the application. After no response, I called again a day later and was told they had no record of my and my wife's driver's licenses. Sent them for the second time. When they again failed to respond, I emailed AGAIN. Now they wanted me to send another copy of her license and made a new request - for a copy of a utility bill. Are these people you would trust with your money? read more

Not only did they overnight me a new debit card, but actual HUMAN PEOPLE reached out to me to help remedy the situation and proffer their vehement apologies. I was stunned by this level of commitment to what amounts to a small-time depositor. Now that my ew card has arrived, 1IB seems to be the optimal bank for me. I had read that their customer service was on point, that's an understatement. Open a free checking account and see for yourself - these guys cannot be beat when it comes to helping their clients. If you want easy access to your money do not deposit it in this bank. They have very low daily limits for ach transfers. If you need more money, or want to close your account, they will only send a check by mail, or you have to pay them $20 for a wire transfer, which will only be sent after a series of time-consuming, burdensome security requirements. This is particularly unfair since I funded my account by ach transfer. You can find many other internet banks that are easier to deal with. read more

IMHO: Find another institution fast. Loved this bank way back when the first opened, when they defined the cutting edge for online access, bill pay and great service. A few years ago the whole operation started to slide, as other banks refined online competition, I suppose. Every transfer / transaction became a chore requiring phone calls, and lots of original signed paper documents mailed or faxed (!) The latest news is that they do not want your retirement accounts so get your $$ out of their bank asap! The bank's mechanical response, "The decision to no longer offer IRA products was made with our customers' best interests in mind," makes it seem FIB's future is not bright. read more

I have been using FirstIB since about 2000 for basic checking and savings. Recently completed a refinance of my house through them (very low mortgage rates). Customer service is always exceptional If you overdraft your checking, they transfer the amount needed to cover the difference (with no fee) They don't gouge you with fees Mobile deposit works great. read more

The good news is that they completed my refinance at a decent rate, after several other banks or brokers had looked at it and refused or failed to accomplish it. However, dealing with FIB was frustrating. At least five different people (Rick, Glenda, Janice, Maftah, and Taylor) were involved with my transaction, and they apparently did not communicate well with each other or with involved outsiders (such as the second-note holder). Various misunderstandings or miscommunications caused the process to take over 70 days, and I did not see accurate, agreed-upon closing documents until less than two hours before the notary arrived. I'm glad the experience is over-- it was not pleasant. read more

You cannot trust First Internet Bank. I opened a 24Mo. IRA CD at a good interest rate. Now I receive an Notification that FIB will no longer handle IRA CD's as of October. They advised me to find another institution that handles IRA CD's and transfer my money. There would be no early withdrawal penalty. (How Generous!). The new Account holder will give me a minimal interest rate for the remainder of the term of the IRA CD. If I would not transfer my money by October, They would close my account and send me a check for the deposit and interest. (If you take possession of your IRA money and then invest it again in another IRA, it becomes a headache at tax time.) I thought I had an agreement with FIB for a 24 month IRA at a fixed ID. I attempted to complete a refinance and every week the promises made the week before couldn't be honored and the deal had to be changed. Once they have my money for an appraisal, the refinance is denied and the stated reason was completely false. When I provided evidence that their interpretation was wrong, the reason was changed to a denial because of my credit report - a history they had for weeks and had no problem with before I pointed out their error. They have no credibility and I will be reporting them to the better business bureau. Oh and don't be fooled by their glowing reviews on Bankrate. That's what made me choose them but when I attempted to post this review there, it was rejected. It's easy to have all glowing reviews on a site that won't post anything else. read more

I'd give 2.5 stars if that were possible. We recently bought a second/rental home in California and used First IB for the loan. The good news is that we got a good rate and low fees. We also liked the automation of the process. The bad news is that there was some seriously bad communication from First IB and really unnecessary stress prior to closing. I'm not sure whether First IB is not used to doing business in California or whether they are just not very well trained when it comes to loans and mortgages. The short story version of what happened is that we needed to close on a certain date and for weeks First IB insisted that they'd be able to close on that date. We (me and my broker) kept reminding them that we needed this particular date and we were always told to not worry. A few days before the expected closing date we knew First IB didn't have their things in order to close on time and started to get very nervous. The reps at First IB tended to communicate in very informal, somewhat dismissive, emails. On the day before the expected closing, when it was clear that First IB had dropped the ball, I had to get very vocal and they finally got everything together and we closed on time. So in the end, we did get a good rate and the loan did close on time, but the amount of time I had to spend keeping on top of them (and the amount of stressed caused by that) was really concerning. If First IB is the best rate, I'd certainly try them, but remember to be very diligent in watching what they do and making sure that they have everything in process (especially appraisals). Be very persistent in making them communicate with you. read more

We used FIB to refinance our home. The interest rate and closing costs were the lowest we could find. Two caveats: 1) Our loan officer the first time we got a loan for our house (not at FIB) was great. She kept us updated every few days and I felt like she was looking out for us. There really wasn't any of that here. After the initial paperwork was submitted, I had to initiate all communication to find out things were progressing. Then one day our officer wrote me an email to tell me we would be closing in two days and to have $XXXX for closing costs ready. It worked out fine, but was unnecessary stress. 2) Our loan was immediately sold to Chase. And I'm totally fine with that sort of thing, but some people aren't. read more

This is the best internet bank I can find and I have been a more than satisfied customer for more than 5 years. There is no minimum on the interest bearing checking account (currently 1.26%). I pay all of my bills automatically and write all of my checks online with their user friendly website. I make all deposits via mail and have never had a problem (the only downside is the 2-3 delay and you can deposit directly at certain reciprocating banks). You get reimbursed $6.00 for ATM expenses per month and can use any ATM. You can apply for an overdraft account that acts like a credit card and as such, if you accidentally overdraft, you are charged an APR on the amount instead of a fee (I have at times had to dip into this account for several hundred dollars and it literally cost me cents in fees) Their customer service is impeccable! I have got my cards stolen twice and they have reimbursed me every dollar and every fee both times. They have always resolved my every need. Most importantly, they are FDIC insured, so for you conspiracy theorists and nervous online in the closet junkies, there is nothing for you to worry about. Send me a note if you have any questions. SLOW. The only reason I have to deal with this bank is because I have chosen ChaCha "Pay Me Now" option. I began the process of setting up my account with them back in November 2011 by sending the mandatory information they needed such as address, copy of drivers license, etc. It is now January 2012, and after calling them to follow up with my account, i will JUST be receiving a confirmation email from them tomorrow (if that actually happens). I've been using FirstIB for some of my banking since 1999 when I needed a bank I could deal with online when I was in Japan. Now I'm prompted to write when I noticed my interest payment on my checking account is about $3 in contrast to interest on a Chase account containing twice as much money was about 15 cents. The biggest issue I had in these 15 years was a missing (mis-deposited) check for $1550 that I didn't notice until a year later. I was afraid they'd say I was out of luck since it had been so long but they located the missing funds and corrected the error. Of course it would have been better if they hadn't misdeposited the funds to begin with. read more

After shopping around for several mortgage brokers for our refinance, I chose First Internet Bank because they were the most responsive on all of my inquiries. I had a very short deadline and our loan officer Jeri Homes worked tirelessly to get our loan closed in less than 25 days. I was hesitant at first since I was not local and had read some of the other reviews on Yelp. However, Jeri and Glenda Quigley (our mortgage processor) made the process as painless as possible. I was blown away and couldn't have been more pleased. Everyone was very responsive to my emails and my requests despite me emailing and calling multiple (huge understatement) times. Not once did I feel like they were annoyed and they were very professional throughout the whole process. I will definitely refer my friends and family to First Internet Bank. Jeri and her team were always one step ahead of me and stayed in contact with the title company, appraisers, etc. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. I've used First IB as my primary checking and savings for over 10 years. All things considered, they are the best bank that I've worked with. Here's why I like them: Money Market Savings account offers a consistently good interest rate (currently about 0.80%). It's not the best rate around, but it isn't a teaser rate that quickly drops. ATM fee rebates A few things that could be improved: Foreign transaction fees on ATM withdrawals. Customer service hours are somewhat limited, but at least you get to talk to somebody smart that can usually fix whatever problem you are having. read more

This used to be a great bank. The current state of affairs is sad. The bill payment system kicks me out most of the time now. This has been going on for over a week, regardless of my call to their customer support and his reset of ... I don't know what. Now it's Sunday night and I find out my car insurance was cancelled a month ago because FIB didn't pay the company? Did I get an email saying a payment couldn't be sent due to lack of funds or something? (honeymoon drew down funds temporarily) No I did not. And now I can neither log in nor call someone because they have the WORST customer service hours. Like, normal CST business hours. And I work really crazy hours. I've been with this bank for about 15 years. Even just 5 years ago I would have given them a 5 star rating. It's sad. Really sad. read more

This institution apparently offers great rates if you can ever get an account opened. Filled out their detailed account application to open two corporate accounts. Sent in all of the other paperwork asked for in their application, copies of Certified Articles of Incorporation, Corporate Resolution, Certificate of Good and Active Corporate Status, and copies of the last three months corporate general account back statements. Then the fun began. After receiving the paperwork I was contacted and asked for copies of the two corporate signers drivers licenses. If this was needed I don't understand why it was not asked for as an enclosure required for the initial paperwork that was sent in? In any event I proceeded to fax them copies of the licenses. Once received I was told they were not readable on the fax I sent in. So I tried to e-mail them as a pdf attachment that looked fine on my end. Again I was told they were not good enough and they suggested I e-mail them photos of the licenses. So I spent 1/2 hour driving to the other corporate signers home so I could take the photo of her license and then back to my office to e-mail them off. After sending them off I received another e-mail that now they needed copies of all of our social security cards, personal pay stubs, and a utility bill. Again if this is what is required why are these items not asked for as enclosures with the original application that was mailed in? In truth as being a past victim of identity theft I probably would have simply chosen not to attempt to open an account with them in the first place. At this point I have lost more billable time then the interest I would have earned on these two accounts for the first two to three years. Have now asked them to terminate my application, destroy all of the substantial amounts of very personal information we have already given them, and return our check intended to open the accounts. Now I realize that the First Internet Bank of Indiana will say that the information requested is simply required under the Patriot Act or some other "know you customer rules". However that is not the full issue here. Why is it not asked for when one completes the original application and mails it in? Many people would simply refuse to move forward providing so much personal information and decide to invest their money elsewhere. At this point I have provided them with so much personal information, which I truly hope they destroy, I am feeling very uncomfortable. Rather than opening accounts with First Internet Bank of Indiana I suggest you bury your money in a coffee can in the backyard and save yourself some grief. read more

I switched over to First I.B. after Netbanked closed years ago. In the beginning it was great. Simple account set -up, no hassles or red tape. But over the past year they've implemented a few so-called "upgrades" that are huge inconveniences: - Money transfers to and from external accounts used to be free and completed in less than 24 hours. Now they are $5 and take 3 days. - Bill pay is no longer free. - The on-line "live" Customer support center is rarely live. -They only list one 800 number for contact---which is useless if you need to contact them from outside of the US. - Daily transaction limit of $500. On top of all this, I recently had a PAYPAL transaction refused because of some new rule they had instated, but failed to inform me about. My husband and I are switching to another bank ASAP. read more

Terrible experience! The loan officer (Max) recommended a 10 year arm loan for my home purchase, claimed that he locked the rate at 3.625%, and then three weeks later, told me that the loan is NOT applicable to the home purchase! Instead of the 10-year ARM, he tried to talk me into applying for a different 5-year ARM loan with FIB. When I asked him why he didn't inform me during the first three weeks that the 10-year ARM loan he recommended may not be applicable to the home purchase. He said "do you think it would be a good sales strategy?" He was right - I would never have proceeded with applying for the loan if I knew it may not be applicable. (No one would have paid over $700 to just find out if the loan is applicable to a home purchase.) But their "good sales strategy" to purposely hide important information from a potential client in order to get his business is a malpractice and unethical. I have to start shopping again (of course not with FIB), facing a higher interest market. I requested Max and FIB to reimburse me for the costs incurred to me during the application of a 10-year ARM loan that was not applicable to the home purchase in the first place. Not very optimistic about the outcome given my prior frustrating experience with them. Will follow up with another review to report how this is resolved. Think twice before doing business with FIB. read more
