I have delt with allot banks over the years and I am not impressed with these people. They were friendly over the phone but paperwork was lost I had to send the same items more then once in some cases 3 times. They questioned every little thing like a $57.00 charge on my wife's credit card it was just interest. I will give them credit in the fact that they were better in quicken loans who I will never deal with again. read more

The 1 star rating is for the convenience of everything being via the internet. Now, the lack of the other rating stars: Like with other banks, you get a debit card, you make charges, you watch your account online to ensure everything works accordingly so that you don't get smacked with a $30 fee for every single charge made in the negative, everything seems peachy. Then after several weeks a bunch of charges don't show up for almost a week, then *poof* -they all show up in 1 morning. Then this happens again a week later. Then -yet again, after another week. Currently, this bank is my only option, within a week I am switching to yet another bank that gouges their customers by withholding charges made so it's 'bank error, in their favor' when overdraft fees appear. Whenever I have called them, they have not been helpful in the least. I usually get something along the lines of "since you can view your account online, there is nothing I can do for you over the phone" or something equivalent. In the hopes of fairly warning future FIBI customers, I'll let my co-workers know about this page so they can post their opinions on this bank as well. read more

If I could give zero stars I would. I borrowed money to purchase a motor home 18 months ago and First Internet Bank demanded that I send them the original title on the vehicle so they could "hold" it as they claim the loan was processed in a "title hold" state. I objected heavily to this request as my state of residence, Oklahoma, is not a title hold state. I could not get them to understand that all they had to do is put a lien on my title and allow me to hold it for safe keeping. I lobbied them to choose this route because i did not trust them to keep track of the title. Two weeks ago I paid the unit off and enclosed a check for $30.00 so they could expedite my original title. What I got expedited was a lien release because naturally they lost my original title. To make things worse their "VP" who tired to "help" find my title, Steve Cartwright, was flippant about their error and at one point even blamed me, the customer for them losing my title. Absolutely horrible experience all the way around with this sorry excuse for a lending institute. read more

I'm surprised to see that my 2011 review is currently not recommended - I wonder what weird internet red flag was triggered. Anyway, just checking back in to say that I'm still having a seamless experience with FIB. Admittedly, I don't ask a lot of them, but the basic actions like deposits and bill paying have gone on without a hitch. I recently had a tax-related question, and the online chat option to talk to representatives worked just fine. I've never done a loan through FIB, so I can't speak to that experience, but having a checking account with them is very easy. read more

It may have just been the loan officer assigned to my loan (Shelley), but in this day and age of electronic messaging, document signing and everything else, i expected some communication between the loan officer and myself. My loan process was initiated on August 22, 2016, and virtually every required document was sent within 2 days, and a few minor, 'signature required' documents have been ongoing. I was told that 30 days would be sufficient for the loan to close and was thanked for my quick response with all the documentation. I received an email from the loan officer, sent 'supposedly' by the original appraisal company (Accurategroup.com) The original appraisal was set up before September 2nd for September 8, and cancelled, because either the bank or the appraisal company thought it would be best to gouge the California applicant for an additional $260 for the appraisal ($675 total). A week later, on Sep 9th a new appraisal company (Streetlinks, an Assurant Company) was selected, and 11 days later, I still have not received any calls from either the loan officer or the new appraisal company, even though I have repeatedly contacted both by messaging and email and phone, leaving voice or electronic messaging. It doesn't look like the bank even wants to close this loan. I should have gone with another lender, rather than have this bank try to nickel and dime me for higher fees and no communication. I urge everyone to run, not walk, to the nearest First Internet Bank exit if you need a loan that must close in a reasonable amount of time (a time limit established by the loan officer). The old saying certainly applies to this bank. "Caveat emptor" - let the buyer (applicant) beware! I wonder if this review will get a response from them? For Mark Elder with First Internet Bank of Indiana: MARK ELDER SAVES THE DAY. How many times do hear complaints about a lender? Well, you won't hear one in this review. Mark went above and beyond the call for this mortgage. We went with First Internet Bank for our mortgage because they had good rates, good closing cost deals and an easy interface for getting pre-approval and then full approval. From the beginning, I knew Mark would be a good loan officer. He was quick to reply to all my questions (both good ones and dumb ones) and I had A LOT of questions dealing with a potentially complicated set of circumstances. Mark always either knew the answers or told me if something couldn't be guaranteed but he never misled and was always stand up, honest and easy to reach. When our deal almost collapsed due to another funding source falling through after business hours the day before closing, Mark truly saved the day. AFTER hours while on vacation he responded to an email about the troubles we were having and by our 11:00 am closing THE NEXT DAY was able to rework our loan so we could close! He was the talk of the closing table. All the agents and lawyers couldn't believe our lender had pulled that off. Thanks Mark for a job well done! read more

TURN AND RUN. This place is awful. I opened up a checking account and it's been 3 weeks and still no debit card. They will not let me withdraw my money. They will not give me my account number to transfer the funds. They will not help me in any way what so ever. Their advice is to just wait it out. The mortgage lender at this bank starts out friendly and helpful; however, he soon starts avoiding phone calls and sends email saying he will call the next morning. He doesn't. I just used First Internet Bank to do the loan for a new home purchase and unfortunately it was not a good experience at all. Before I go into the bad about my loan process I do want to say not everything was bad. The loan officer who was helping me initially was excellent. His name was Joey Newton. Now, maybe having such a great experience on the front end is what ultimately left me so disappointed as the rest of the bank did not carry on his great service. Once my application was submitted and I started having to work with the loan processor it was just one request after the other. They would ask me for bundle of additional items. I would submit the requested items and never hear back if they were received and that they were sufficient to satisfy whatever the bank needed them for. I would email the loan processor to ask for confirmation of receipt and to check if anything else was needed and I would never get a response. On a few occasions I would be asked for items I had already sent in. With a few hours before I thought the loan docs would be sent to escrow and after I was told everything was wrapped up I received another list of items they needed. As anyone knows who has bought a home, it can be a stressful time and working with this bank made that stress level higher. This was my 4th home purchase and my 4th time going through a loan process and it was by far the worst. Go somewhere else, anywhere else. read more

I found the bank originally on the internet. They had the best rates out there with the largest lender credits. However you get what you pay for. My issue is really not with the Bank as they got the deal closed and done under the exact terms initially proposed by the residential lender. With that said my issue is with the loan officer, he was unresponsive, did not return calls or emails and just seemed busy. I think that once I left him 3 voicemails and 3 emails before finally getting a call back. The only way I found out that everything funded was that my old mortgage was paid off. I emailed my loan officer 3 times and called 2 times(again) and I still have yet to hear from him. Again, they got the deal done, but customer service could certainly improve. After shopping for the best refinance rates through lending tree, I selected First Internet Bank. They had the best rate and seemed to be adequate for the job. I have excellent credit and expected this whole process would be seamless. It was pretty seamless, and then they requested $400 for the appraisal fee. This seemed like a reasonable fee so I complied. The appraiser's value was $20,000 to low, so then they demanded that I secure PMI. I declined and proceeded with another bank and another appraiser whose value was actually $25,000 more than the appraiser sent by First Internet Bank and much more in line with actual property values. I did find that there are many banks who do not demand upfront money. I learned a lesson. read more

First Internet Bank of Indiana is refusing to honor term of IRA Certificates of Deposit. I purchased 2 separate IRA Certificates of Deposit in February of 2017 from First Internet Bank of Indiana. Both IRA CDs have a maturity date of February 6, 2021, and pay 2.20% annual interest. The accounts were opened online with checks sent by mail. On February 26, 2020, I received a letter (sent by email) stating that they would no longer offer IRA Certificates of Deposit and that the funds from current CDs could be transferred or withdrawn without early withdrawal penalty. The letter then stated that on October 1, 2020, all CDs would be closed and a check with accumulated interest would be sent to me. They would not honor the term of the IRA CD and pay no additional interest or penalty for early termination. On March 10,2020. I spoke with Charles Gearhart, Vice President of Relationship Banking, and he confirmed that the bank would not honor the term of the CDs and he stated that "the agreement" provided that the bank could change or amend the agreement at any time. I have been banking with First IB since 2000. I signed up with them when I lived in Boston, and now I'm in California. It's the longest relationship I have with anyone outside of my blood relatives. I have checking, saving, and CDs with them and everything is done online, absolutely fabulous! I have access to banking professionals anytime via chat, and they've always been polite and professional. The few caveats are that 1. takes time to access larger amounts of cash (over 750). 2. making deposits, especially cash is problematic. These are minor issues that are annoying but not deal breakers. It's the perfect bank for younger tech-savvy people. read more

DON'T BOTHER! We got totally screwed by this bank. Everything, I mean everything was completely smooth, UNTIL they decided to use a scam appraisal company that used comps in completely different neighborhoods to appraise our house - even though there was a comp RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET, which we pointed out. I literally handed him four comps from OUR neighborhood and this moron didn't use a SINGLE one!!! Didn't use a single house that was geographically relevant. Really? He was very young, inexperienced and didn't have a clue about neighborhoods in our area. We had two real estate agents tell us that appraiser had no idea what he was doing and the valuation was completely off. HOW IS THIS ALLOWED??! Communication was okay with the Bank, we used Jodonna Fredrick, until the botched appraisal came in and within HOURS (after spending hours collecting docs, scanning and sending), we were sent a FORM LETTER telling us the deal was completely done and have a nice day. We never even got a phone call from Jodonna - nada. We "disputed" the appraisal and the only thing the bank did was to ask the SAME appraiser if their appraisal was good. Huh? They were going to say something else? Not if they had to return $400, or good god - send another experienced appraiser out. They replied - with another form letter! - saying it was. Guess what? We instantly got our final form letter telling us again the deal was dead. We're out lots of time and energy, $400 (for a scumbag appraisal company), AND the mortgage rate in the 3s!!! The rates have gone up more than a POINT since we tried to refi with this wretched company and it almost makes no sense to refinance anymore! I could throw up. Jerks, jerks, jerks. It's only realistic to refi now if the mortgage rates go down. Yeah, right. First Internet Bank is your typical company that is strictly out for cash and the moment they realize they have to do work to make that happen, you become a hot potato. read more

I've been banking with them for years. I saw that they were processing mortgages now and decided to try them. Their rates were better than any others with whom I talked. I had no troubles with my loan. It was completed in time with all of the paperwork where it should be. They did require a ton of documents, but that's to be expected. They were really helpful and the rates provided were the rates that ended up for closing. I will definitely use them again for my mortgage. read more

I recently closed a loan with FIB and now that the deal is finally done, I'm finished forever with this incompetent excuse for a bank. One of the other reviewers pointed out that the appraiser was apparently told to low-ball the value... I can't say for sure exactly why or how it happened, but the appraiser came back with an extremely low value for my home, too. This worked out okay in my case because the seller agreed to lower the price, saving me money, but I feel the appraisal was completely bogus, and in light of the other review, I suspect that something fishy may have been going on. Throughout the whole process, it was incredibly difficult to get in touch with anyone at FIB. My repeated phone calls and emails asking when we would be able to close on the house were totally ignored. Apparently they don't think the question of when you can actually close on the home is important. They misplaced documents I sent - I had to send them one of my W2s three times. When the first appraisal came back with some problems, they failed to schedule another visit by the appraiser on the date we agreed upon even though they told me by email that they would. Luckily, my agent was on top of things, and he called the appraiser. Finally, FIB delayed my closing by failing to notice that the seller's bank (in a short sale) needed five days to review the closing statement. This is standard in a short sale. Of course, they blamed this on the other bank and charged me a rate lock extension fee of $400+. Based on all the above, I wouldn't recommend that anyone do business with this bank, except maybe my worst enemy. I guess. read more

Applied for a low interest credit card w/ just an $8000 dollar credit line just because I want to keep a credit line open to maintain my "exceptional" (experian rated) rating of 834 and have for my daughter's use, who is away at college, for emergencies. Was denied first because they said they couldn't identify me? I called personally and they said to send an ID and a W2. I sent my DL and passport copy and 2016 Fed tax returns as I didn't receive 2017's W2. On top of that, I showed bank accounts with $20k in savings, and 170k in stocks and mutual funds. I explained that I also owned a rental 2nd home free and clear. I was denied again, this time they said I had too many credit inquiries and too many open accounts. This was the only inquiry in 2 yrs for 2 cars that we bought and are paying for with no lates! Only 2 of 6 cards have a balance - like I said, to maintain active credit payments, exceptional rating and for my daughter's emergency use. Clear case of discrimination. I am a 3rd generation Japanese AMERICAN And veteran. Do not apply if you are a minority. They will lower your credit rating by issuing a denial. Just flabbergasted- an 834 rating is better than excellent. 850 is rated perfect. Most common rating is in the low 600's. read more

Melanie at FIB was outstanding at servicing my home loan. This is the second time I used Melanie and FIB. The first time they proved to be the lowest with interest rates and I had a quick closing. After closing I noticed a slight overcharge by the notary. I called Melanie and she took care of the charge. I was so impressed with her services that I remembered her and used her a second time. Again she worked magic and I had the lowest interest rate, even lower than my credit union. She also closed my loan in record time about 30-days (unlike my husband who used a national bank and it took about 3 months for his closing). I also had a difficult loan but she was able to talk directly with the underwriters to get approval. This bank and the service Melanie gave me really is as good as it gets. Can I give 0 Stars? This bank ripped me off! I went through all the paperwork for a cash out refi and the appraisal came back way under the value of my home! The appraiser did not use a single house that was truly comparable to mine - I was completely floored! I had it reappraised a few days later by another company and it came in over $50K higher! I should have paid better attention to the Yelp reviews stating that this was a problem with FIB. Do not use this bank for any reason at all. They should all be ashamed of themselves for taking advantage of people. I am now out $435 for a bunk appraisal. Not to mention that my loan officer had recently quit smoking, which made him unfriendly at times and often spoke to me in a condescending tone. Bunch of idiots. We completed 2 mortgage loans in the past 2 years. One was a refinance and the other was for a purchase of a new property. We requested to have a home equity loan this year, so it is a 3rd loan through them and suddenly they have issues. Our credit scores are in the top ranges, along with incomes. They took 1 month to verify incomes, even after getting income proof through www.theworknumber.com, due to the overtimes lumped in they cannot get the breakdown. We submitted enough proof from our paystubs and w-2's and also the overtime proofs through the paystubs. They want proof of incomes broken down, even after all of our incomes are verified. Our HR directed us to complete it through the process, but they will not consider our overtime incomes because it is not broken down individually. ARE YOU DUMB? COMPLETELY INCONSIDERATE IDIOTS. While this bank starts with a lot of steam, it peters out very quickly. I dealt with Mr. Jeffery Cotton, sent him every document requested and have a supper good credit rating and he failed to follow through even to indicate what was missing. Needless to say I was very disappointed in their service. Their request for loan documents is substantial, much more than anyone else and most of it has no meaning. From the very beginning, I had nothing but problems with First Internet Bank. When I decided to build my new home in November of 2015, I did extensive research on potential financial institutions. In the end, I selected First Internet Bank based upon this research and the recommendation of my builder. I provided all of the requested documentation and did everything I was asked in order to pre-qualify and eventually obtained a mortgage. The staff had a number of delays and excuses then several months after taking possession of my home requested a final appraisal of my home which was highly irregular and something the bank should have done a long time ago. Several months later I received notice that I need to sign and provide an occupancy statement when the bank knew very well I resided in my home. I contacted the manager of the residential mortgage group who had no explanation as to why now after taking possession of my home in January 2017 eight months later I need to sign a statement indicating I resided in the home. Are you kidding me what type of financial institution does this? Not professional in the slightest. Today I received notice from First Internet via email from a member of its marketing team, indicating a Notice of Transfer indicating my mortgage has been sold to CMC Funding an organization I have never even heard of. A group that in itself has a multitude of complaints and seems to be very questionable, to say the least. I can't believe First Internet Bank operates in this manner. To further insult me earlier this week the bank closed my online mortgage account reversed payments that were made this month and have yet to apply those payments to my mortgage balance. The questionable activity I believe since I was not notified of the payment reversal and it's not reflected in my balanced as having been paid. I have proof of all payments processed by my financial institution. I am very dissatisfied and will be sure to let my builder and anyone I know not to consider First Internet for anything at all. What a horrible experience! Update 9/12/2017: So in addition to all of the issues with First Internet Bank the form letter regarding the transfer of the servicing of my loan had the incorrect principal and interest payment amount, did not list the property tax or insurance escrow amounts. When I brought this evidence to the attention of the bank they acknowledged the information was incorrect on the document I received via email and blamed the problem on a computer glitch. At this point, I have no idea if the correct information was sent to the new servicing organization since they have yet to contact me as well. So furious with the bank and their lack of customer service, attention to detail and failure to meet high customer service and integrity. It's a wonder they are still in business with this type of poor customer service. Update 9/20/2017: I'm still battling with First Internet Bank and CMC Funding (AKA LoanCare, LLC) to locate a missing payment I made to First Internet Bank. At this point, they are going back and forth with each other to determine where the lost payment is. read more

Terrible. Their service used to be ok, which they absolutely needed since they don't have ANY branches which makes banking a huge hassle. I originally joined for the online banking. Now that every bank has a quality online presence First Internet Bank of Indiana has nothing worth while to offer. You think this would make them focus on customer service, but that is not the case. They focus on gouging you with fees to make their money in lieu of keeping long term customers. I would not trust my money with them since I do not believe they will be in business in 2 years with the mass exodus of customers do to poor service.
