My mom started her 7 year journey at Angel Home Care after breaking her hip while living alone. The…read morepositives were the home was extremely clean, food healthy and appealing and she hired kind caretakers. Although she was entering the early stages of dementia she did required more care. She was very happy there and loved the backyard. There was a big difference in mom's care as her dementia progressed. I was looking for a new home for her towards the end of 2025. Kathy complained a lot about mom's behavior's as her dementia progressed. Kathy let me know she wasn't going to bath mom anymore as of March of 2026 because of mom's outbursts of being showered so early in the morning. Kathy's home is run on the caregiver's schedule NOT on the needs of the residents. Mom's time there came to a head when I came for an unexpected visit to have mom meet a possible new Board & Care provider. Kathy texted me saying, "she didn't have a good morning because of shower and she had scratches on her back, because mom scratches herself." When I got there mom also had what appeared to be finger bruises. I made all the appropriate calls to Adult Protective Services and made a police report. I immediately gave Kathy a 30 day notice and let her know I would bath my mom going forward. When coming to her home 3 days later to bath her I discovered these noticeable 200+ bites on her back and arms. When ask the caregiver Sandra she told me, " they (the residents) all have them, they sit outside and get bug bites." I told her it was most likely scabies or bed bugs and they should let Kathy know. One of the residents heard this and said, "I am scratching everywhere." I made an appointment for my mom to see her doctor 2 days later and she was diagnosed with scabies. Even when I told the facility immediately they made no effort to start addressing the scabies issue. I sent the CDC guidelines on how to treat a scabies outbreak at a senior facility. They did nothing. The next day I decided to call 911 feeling my mom was unsafe and she was transferred to the hospital to be treated. Kathy's home is beautiful on the outside but in my opinion she is all about the money and not attending to the clients and their personal needs. It is my opinion Kathy has not educated herself about dementia and communicable diseases at senior facilities. I DO NOT Recommend her facility for anyone who has dementia.

My family needed companion care for my 87 year old grandma. We spoke to Darla and received a free assessment to better serve my grandmother's needs & Set up our days and times. On the expected date of arrival no one showed! I then called to inquire what happen, and I was told there must've been a miscommunication and the girl that was picked out for us had already taken a full-time position. I was then offered the following day with a new caregiver, I politely agreed. That next morning I received a phone call from Darla explaining The caregiver schedule to come will not be coming. So she would be sending her assistant instead. Giving the benefit of the doubt I agreed. Two hours into the four hour shift I was pulled aside by the assistant and rudely judged and shamed for "drug paraphernalia" seen on an outdoor table. This drug paraphernalia she referred to was a small marijuana pipe that one is legal in the state of California and two medically prescribed to a member of my household and has been prescribed to that person for years. When I tried to explain that to her she became agitated and rude. I stated that I wasn't sure if this was going to work out, I don't think it's appropriate to be judge and treated poorly in my own home. She then snapped back at me saying "If this isn't going to work out I need to know now"! I explained that I wanted to discuss it with her boss. Her response was "NO! I am her assistant you'll deal with me, if this isn't gonna work out I want to know now because I am leaving"!! So I kindly dismissed and and she stormed out. Her behavior was so unbelievably unprofessional!! I could understand there being an issue if someone was smoking around her or other caregivers but that was not the case.

Unfortunately, Home Helpers recently sent us a letter stating they were going to have to change their fee schedule due to changing labor laws. Of course, they had known about this change for quite some time and they had time to plan for it. However, they advised that our fee increase was to go into effect less than a week after we received the letter. This gave us little to no time to make any changes. Darla, the manager, also tried to make it sound like we, personally, could be sued if she didn't implement the fee increases. The is ridiculous and just seemed to be written to intimidate us. She wrote, "This has to go into effect on November the 7th as there are cases that have gone to court on the caregivers not being paid correctly, which means you and I will be sued." For the record, I don't think it was the huge fee increase that bothered me as much as the lack of time for us to make plans. Fortunately, we were able to make arrangements with another company. Darla then told us that "It is really a shame that you will not pay her what she is worth. Good luck" Doesn't really appear that their management is very compassionate to seniors unfortunately. Again, Dahlia, the caretaker was awesome. Management not so much.

While my dad was alive, they were able to live on their own alone as they kind of had complementary health issues where together as a team they could manage on their own. Her and my dad were married over 60 years and the loss of my dad left her feeling very alone and empty inside and there were things my mom knew she could no longer manage on her own every day. I have a full time job and 3 sons, so I was not able to be there to help her out during the day with getting to appointments, making sure she is eating well, keeping the house picked up, and providing some companionship during the day, which were her initial needs. My brother and sister live out of state, but we talked and agreed that we would share in the cost of bringing in a part time caregiver for Mom. I talked to some of my friends who use caregivers for their parents and was not able to get a good reference, so I went on line and found 3 in-home care agencies in my area to interview and compare services and prices. After talking to all 3 agencies, I decided to go with Caring Companions Referral Agency. I spoke with Melissa, who is the owner, and she immediately made me feel at ease. She clearly explained the entire process to me and I liked the fact that her and her husband own and run the agency. I also found that Melissa was able to offer me the lowest rate out of the 3 agencies I called, and that was certainly a factor in my decision as well along with my brother and sister. Initially I started my Mom with 4 hours per day Monday through Friday, and then I was able to personally cover the weekends. Recently this past year however, I had to increase my Mom's hours to 8 hours per day Monday through Friday because it is getting harder and more risky for my mom to get around on her own and do some of the personal hygiene things on her own like bathing and grooming as she is now 92, but she is still as sharp as a nail! Whenever Mom's caretaker is going to be on vacation or is sick, Melissa has always been able to find a capable replacement to cover. I am very happy with the service I receive from Caring Companions Referral Agency, but most importantly my mom is happy she gets to continue to stay at home and has developed a very nice bond with her caregiver. I have recommended Caring Companions Referral Agency to a couple of my friends in the past 3 years, and they also signed up with them for Caregiving services. I owed a bill to this business, and called them to try to pay with card over the phone. A woman…read morenamed Mary answered the phone, and when I asked to speak to the owner, she rudely snapped "WHO IS THIS"?!?!? The rude way she spoke to me was totally uncalled for. There are many ways to get that info without being rude and mean about it. You can say: "With whom do I have the pleasure of speaking?", for example. Or: "May I tell her who is calling?" Anything but for the nasty way she spoke to me! And, when I spoke to Deanna [the owner] about it, instead of apologizing to me for the rudeness, she defended Mary, and basically said that they get so many phone calls that they get tired of answering the phone! REALLY??? So, I guess that they have all the business they can reasonably handle. In my mind the only reason to be so rude is if you have something to hide. That is what I took away from the experience. That this business has something they are trying to hide. I'll never use this service again. And, I certainly would never trust an elder in their care.
