During one of our recent wrath-of-God deluges, we took about 3-5 inches in our basement. Called our insurance guy, and this was one of the companies that they recommended. OK, we went with it. Three guys came out and loaded a bunch of dryers and fans into the basement. We get told that they'd remove the soaked stuff, haul it away, clean everything and all that would be left is a fresh scent. Two split and one stayed till 1 in the morning cutting out the lower part of our drywall from the basement to make sure there was no mold. The remaining guy estimates the job at 1500 or so. So far so good, I say let's go with it. Over the next week or so two guys showed up periodically to check the equipment and progress. They were unable to provide me with an estimate for where the tab was the several times I asked them. Eventually the machines were removed, and they handed my wife (who was home alone) a review sheet for the experience, and stood there and watched while waiting for her to do so. Two guys alone in the house with my family while I was gone. Think maybe that'll skew the review? Next some other guy comes out to estimate the cost of fixing up the basement again, with the presumption that he's going to get the work. I smell an owner's kid or something. Here's the net outcome of all this: - in lieu of a fresh scent, what we got was a mostly destroyed (albeit dry) basement with a bunch of drywall torn out. The floor was still covered with gunk. - the process of cutting out the drywall left a wet paste on everything...it actually looked better right after the flood. - stuff was moved around so when the insurance adjuster came it was not clear what was on the floor during the flood and what was not - when we got our 5K (yep, over 3 times the estimate) statement for what amounted to 4-5 hours of labor and running machinery, we noticed all sorts of little charges including "After hours" rate increases for the workers. When asked for an explanation I was told that this is what the insurance company makes them charge. Sweet Jesus. A bit of advice...if this happens to you , take that money and buy some dehumidifiers, a wet dry vac, and a knife for drywall removal. You'll do the same job at far less money. It is astounding that they can charge this much and not be able to give ballpark estimates, much less a running tab. read more

Perfection would get 5 stars if it were just on their water mitigation service but the insane work quote after took them down to 2. My next door neighbor (in a condo) flooded her floors, which came through my walls and soaked my carpet in two rooms and the hallway (the night before our wedding, no less!) When I filed the claim with State Farm, they recommended Perfection do the removal/drying. Since I wouldn't be paying for it (deductible will come back to me from neighbor's insurance), and hardly had time to shop around if I wanted to outsmart mold, I scheduled with them. They were over within two hours with two dehumidifiers and four giant fans - industrial grade not normal things I could have set up myself. They took out the baseboards, toe kicks in the kitchen, wet carpet padding, etc. Very fast, very efficient. They came back every day right on scheduled time to check the machines and monitor the water in the walls. They went out of their way to get the machines out before we left for our honeymoon. When we got back, we needed to get quotes for new carpet, padding, baseboards, toe kicks, and the labor associated with this (moving furniture, hauling out the old carpet, etc.) Perfection quoted $6500 - the insurance is only paying out $3500. This is beyond ridiculous, and their breakdown includes things like "unhooking and setting back up the gas dryer" for $100 - guess what we don't have a gas dryer. The end result square footage was nearly 900 to have work done on, but my condo is only 980 and that's with two baths, a kitchen, and an entryway - someone fudged the numbers in their measurements to up the carpet pricing. After getting quotes from other local companies, we found Perfection to be 2500 over most. That's really crazy - I can't believe State Farm is recommending them and I'm letting my local agent's office know what happened. I agree with the other reviewer, they acted as if the job was theirs and used interesting wording to make it seem as if I had to use them. The workers were nice but I'm not stupid. The office worker that scheduled appointments AND the guy that came out to measure for the estimate could NOT give me an answer on how I'd be able to sign with them before getting carpet pricing - they said I needed to sign before I got carpet quotes, but I told them I'm obviously not signing anything before I got the prices quotes. Catch-22 and I'm not playing that game. read more

THESE GUYS ARE DISREPUTABLE SNAKES. DON'T USE THEM! We recently experienced some water seepage through the walls after the heavy rains. I spent several days drying the floors, tearing up carpet and ripping out the damaged drywall. I asked for a quote to spray the anti-microbial stuff on the walls, just to make sure nothing grew there. The Mitigation Manager quoted doing that, plus extracting non-existent water and moving nonexistent furniture. When he was done with the quote, it totaled $1297. Then he said I had top sign the quote, to prove that he was here. I refused because it was not a quote, it was a work contract, and had I signed it, I would have been stuck for the $1297. He told me that I HAD to sign the form, because he had come to my house in good faith. I threw him out and then wondered how many older folks had been conned by him. I wrote the owner of the company (in an actual letter, not email) thinking I would receive some sort of apology for his employee's actions but never received any response. I can't think of any nice words to use to describe them. Incidentally,I called another company and had the anti-microbial spraying done,for $150 dollars total. read more

Don't use this business. They are scammers. We got water in our basement and, in a panic, called a few places out of the phone book. When they arrived hours later, they tried to get me to sign a "customer work authorization" where I had to initial about 15 items and agree to pay before they would even give me a quote on how much it would cost. How can I authorize something without a quote?? They said their supervisor would be out later in the week to give us a quote as to what it would cost ... They said they mostly deal with insurance companies. This is a little odd, since most insurance policies in IL have a clause that they do not cover flooding for surface water (unless it's due to a broken pump). So surely there are many people who do not have insurance coverage for flooding. At that point, -- particularly in light of the fact that they couldn't give us a quote -- we knew their business practices were highly questionable but, in desperation, we told them to go ahead with just the "water removal only" and not tear down the paneling (which they were recommending). Then they put the hose downstairs. After a while, one of the guys came up and said that they needed to empty the tank on the truck. Then they both went outside. When they came back in, the lead guy (I think his name was Tommy) had an entirely different attitude. He was a total jerk. He kept saying they had a bunch of other jobs lined up, yet they hadn't done ANYTHING. When I told him that we would like just the water removed, he said they would have to come back later. I think the reality is that their truck pump was broken. Or they didn't want to bother removing our water if we weren't going to go ahead and get everything ripped out without knowing what it would cost So they left without doing a thing and totally wasted our time. If I could give these people zero stars, I would. My condo was flooded due to pipes freezing recently (Yay Polar Vortex) My association hired them and I've had nothing but problems. They were quick to arrive to demo: they cut two feet up from the floor on an entire wall. They ripped out my heater. FIVE WEEKS LATER I still have no dry wall and when my heater was installed (only last week, following multiple complaint calls), they knocked a large hole into another wall, which they've left (I guess for me to deal with.) Similar work in the shared hallways has been completed for weeks. WEEKS! Also, when they initially cut out the drywall, I had wallpaper. They ripped it down incompletely, the paper backing still remains glued to the wall and needs to be scraped. In order for the walls to match, I had to do this myself on the other three walls. The company says they are not responsible for removing this backing because......no one is paying them for it. This is their answer. Additionally, they brought heaters and dehumidifyers which they plugged into MY outlets and left running 24-7. Guess who is getting stuck with that electric bill. I call, I get nowhere. No one can make decisions, they say, not even the Project Manager BOB KLESTA who is listed as The Guy on their website. Ridiculous!!!! Do not use them, BEWARE A COMPANY WHOSE WEBSITE DOES NOT PROVIDE A PHONE NUMBER. Shotty work; my blind uncle could cut a better line than these fools. read more

Our insurance company (USAA - my husband and I are both Veterans) called them to respond to our report of a leaky roof. They came out and their employee laid a tarp on the roof as a 'stop gap' until further work could be done, to prevent further leaks. The quote the company came back with for the entire job was so outrageous - nearly 10K more than the other quotes we had received from reputable companies. We declined, but cashed out with our insurance company so we could hire someone else. It was then that we discovered these crooks charged nearly $800 for laying a tarp. That was all they did. Lay. A. Tarp. To add insult to injury, when our competent roofer was doing the job, he noted that the nails used by Perfection Cleaning & Restoration were too long, and not the appropriate nail for this type of job (according to the roofer we hired). As such, ADDITIONAL LEAKS sprang up in our ceiling BECAUSE OF WHAT PERFECTION CLEANING & RESTORATION HAD DONE. We took pictures of the nails, and how deep they went, and our insurance company (USAA) was appalled at the shoddy work. We took pictures of all of it, and sent it to USAA, and I hope USAA recoups their loss, because this company caused an additional $6000 of damage to our roof that WASN'T THERE BEFORE, and then had the audacity to charge 800 dollars for it. This company price gouges and I would warn anyone against hiring them for anything. Plus, their staff is unpleasant and appeared smug and indignant about the damage they had caused. read more

Our duplex-down condo was flooded when our upstairs neighbor's pipe froze. After two weeks of run around and stress dealing with their insurance company, we decided to take matters into our own hands and were referred by our insurance to Perfection Cleaning and Restoration. They sent out two very professional and friendly managers of both the mitigation and restoration teams (Mark and Bob). Immediately I felt that they took a lot of my stress away with the flooding situation in my condo. They started work drying our place out ASAP and then quickly moved into repairs. Jeff headed up the repairs team and they did amazing work. They didn't stop until we were completely satisfied with the end result. You can tell that this company really aims to please and cares about their work. I would definitely call this company if I needed work on my condo again. The entire team was very professional, friendly, organized and awesome to work with. read more

I had a house fire 1-29-2013. State Farm called this company and highly recommended them. They were out within hours of my fire to board up and secure my house. Everything after that has been a nightmare! I can say that today is 2-4-2014 and I am still having issues with the quality of work that they have done. Since I have moved back home I have had to call numerous times for them to come and fix issues from the toilet backing up, then a few months later the seal on it broke and starting leaking again, the windows were not properly installed and my living room was soaked with water so they drilled holes in my drywall to dry it out. I was reassured that these holes would be patched and after being lied to 3 times that they had definitely been fixed I made it a point to be there and have them take it off in front of me so I could see it myself and lo and behold the holes were still there! It took months for them to remove the smoke smell. The vents had to be cleaned a couple of times, the vent for the furnace still reeked of the smoke, they actually left debris from the fire in the crawl space of my house, so I too had the large industrial fans that were quite annoying. I went to use the water spigot in the summer just to find out that they had failed to replace the water line to it under the house. They did not insulate around the door causing ice to form on the trim, the quality of the drywall sucked! If something rubs against the wall the paint scratches off and dents the drywall. There were bubbles in the tape of the drywall that they had to come back and fix and you can still see the outline of the tape in the ceilings. The trim on the bathroom door had to be replaced three times because it was not properly installed and kept cracking. The caulk on the tub surround has been replaced a few times because it keeps cracking. The smoke detectors keep malfunctioning. I could go on and on about the quality of work. Then there are the issues of items being in the estimate that were incorrect. I was charged for the replacement of an extra vent, the toilet was purchased as a set but was broken down into each individual piece so the price doubled. There were items they received money for but were never replaced such as a shelf, coat hooks and a light. They also charged me $240.00 for replacing a ceiling that I purchased myself for only $140.00. I was told that if I wanted a living room fan that I would have to purchase so I did and "they" charged me for it. To this day I have not been reimbursed. The contractors are either rude or play stupid that they do not know. I may not be a contractor or own my own business but I am smart enough to know that this place is very shady when it comes to over charging and the quality of work is nothing compared to what my house was before. Which brings to me to my last point. When I was complaining about the quality of the materials that were used, he said to me and I quote " You forget that I was here the day of your fire and your house looks 100% better than it use to, would you rather have your house the way it was or like it is now" I lost everything in this fire and the nerve of someone to ask if you would want your house the way it was before! My house was stable and sturdy and now it's like living in an egg shell. Like I said, I could go on and on about this company just don't say I didn't warn you! read more

I used Perfection when I lived outside Chicago because my insurance company recommended them to repair my house after a fire. They arrived onsite like an army convoy! They were professional and took control of the scene. They secured my property and moved my stuff out. The process took a little longer than I would have liked for repairs, but the quality was worth the wait. A pipe leaked, and our kitchen ceiling had to be redone. Our insurance agency USAA recommended these guys so we went with them. They gave an initial quote to replace everything as it originally was, but I wanted to leave out a bunch of can lights that I hated. Restoration said they could easily accommodate that request. I knew there would be some electrical work to rewire, but I figured that subtracting the quoted work to replace the many can lights would cancel out some costs and we might have to pay a bit extra. However the sliminess of this firm started to show when I got the revised invoice. They charged for the electrical work they did, but they also left the charge for the can lights that were not replaced. I contacted them about the error and at first they told me that the charge was taken off, but they forgot to remove the number of can lights. I could see both the original quote and the invoice and that was NOT the case. I contacted them again and this time they removed the can light line on the invoice, but wrapped that same charge into a miscellaneous electrical work charge and raised it! My husband then contacted them requesting a detailed accounting of the electrical work and charges and they never responded! The work was okay, but it's disgusting that they are cheating us on the charges. I'm really disappointed because I had high hopes in these people at first. read more

It appears they really take advantage of people in need ! They nickel and dime everything, and there bills are coded so who even knows what they are charging for, etc. they can't/won't even give you a quote or give you an option - as in tearing out old and starting over-or drying out alls they were concerned about was drying the carpet to save it . Now I know why they wanted to save the carpet-ITS BIG BUCKS to them !! HUGE BUCKS- I would of been better off to have the carpeting removed and bought new !!! No one called me with updates on the bill after I asked and called several times - or the quote to replace the baseboards and padding took me 4 calls to finally get the outrageous quote even more shocking than the clean-up bill that took 5 hours-what a scam !! When your in need dont be like me and desperate take the extra time to call around-if they ca't give you a ball park quote-hang up and try someone else !!! They prey on peoples desperate times !!!My insurance agent also recommended them, boy did he get an earful from me I hope he heeds my warning and never ever recommends them to anyone else again !!! read more
