Moving day was 4/7/2019 and this review is over due. I have moved quite a bit in the last 6 years and have used several different moving companies in the DFW metroplex. A few I have used on more then one occasion and I even left 5 star reviews! Well how wrong I was to do that, cause NONE of those moving companies compares to First Step! WOW is all I can say! They blew me away with the service, the courtesy and the care they put into my move! My move was on a weekend and on a Sunday (when most people rest) and yet they were still very reasonably priced, the 3 man crew were on time, very polite, courteous and their effort and care! WOW! Flawless! Not at any point did I get that "Dang it's Sunday and I have to work moving these F'ing people!" Trust me! After moving for the 6th time in the last 6 years! I've become pretty good in picking up on that attitude on moving day from the moving company. This time however, didn't have to deal with that. I also didn't experience one damaged or broken item. First Step took the extra time and put that delicate touch on my fragile items. Oh and I wasn't asked to write a review on the spot to get a discount on my move. There was no price haggling or price "catch". Spoke to Christy from the start (she's Awesome BTW) and the pricing quoted from the start, is exactly what I paid. This crew of incredible guys came out with short notice and helped with incredibly good attitudes to pack up carefully and organize two Pods full of stuff, not once did they look frustrated or complain but just set right to work and did it all excellently. I spoke with Christy about a month before I moved and set everything up. It was very easy to book the movers and all costs were listed out so that it was easy to understand. A few days before moving, I got a text reminder. The day of, the 2 movers were on time and very efficient. They made sure everything was wrapped up that needed to be and were careful when moving items down the stairs. I can't say enough how awesome my experience was. We just closed on our first home and decided, at the last minute, to get some help moving. I'm so glad we did. Brian (I think that's what his name was) arrived with two other gentlemen and they immediately got to work. They carefully disassembled furniture and set up what they could in our new home. I found this moving company by accident and I am not sorry that I did. I had a move coming up ASAP and they totally worked me in and got it done in no time. I would not recommend this moving company. Their employee that inspected my house in order to give me a bid was Cowboy Steven. They were courteous. Friendly. And they were supposed to drop off several pieces at a Furniture consignment store after unloading at my new house. This apparently did not happen. I have no idea where my furniture went. Poof, just gone. Also I am missing some kitchen items and a wireless mouse for my computer. Poof, also gone. If you do business with them make sure you have everything in writing from them and from the consignment store. Take pictures of the movers and the truck. Number the boxes so you can check off upon arrival. Call the consignment store immediately to verify. I didn't and it a lesson I learned that I wanted to share so it doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

The guys showed up exactly at 9 am sharp as promised (9-10am arrival window), I couldn't monitor or help them due to work, they theoretically could have taken their sweet time. I got a surprisingly early call that they were done. Move was great and I will use them again. read more

Communication should be a priority in any business. I received a text yesterday that the movers would be at my place between 1p-3p. 3p rolls around and not a single call. I called the number I was given if I had any questions 6 times, emailed and messaged the yelp account. Not one response. Called the main office, was transferred to a voicemail. Again no response. I finally got ahold of the owner at 3:40p. He said he was sorry but they messed up on the scheduling but would make sure someone would be to my place in the next 2 hours. 5pm rolls around I received a call from the other owner and was told they were unable to move me. I was told they could move me the next day. I asked about about a possible discount because close to 5 hours of my day was wasted. I was told she could do maybe $10. Now I understand things happen in businesses but they should've let me know when this happened at the beginning instead of me chasing them down and not finding out that they had a scheduling mix up almost 3 hours "after" they were supposed to be at my location. I am very understanding but why does my time not matter to a company that charges by the hour? Unacceptable and unprofessional read more

But as I open box after box and find master bedroom things in the living room, bathroom things in the garage, fragile (broken) glasses under heavy serving dishes, I wonder about "the best packing crew available" she crowed about during my interview. I wonder about the hurried phone call I received to book the move and the lack of communication of any kind following that, forcing me to call the office and to talk to different people, who each had different information about my move, including the day! Mine was an intra-city move, in Sherman. I picked this company because it had the second highest score on Yelp. Something went terribly wrong with my move. Maybe many things. I should have listened to my gut from the beginning of my transactions with this company. I hope your move with them is as good as the others posted here. read more

I called First Step Moving after looking up local movers for Prosper and checking reviews. I was doing a small apartment to apartment move within my community (1 bdrm to a 2 bdrm) on July 20th. There were a few minor issues that came up during the move, but I am satisfied with my 5 star rating. (1) There was a communication issue with the arrival time. While the crew was originally booked for a 10AM-Noon arrival, we rescheduled it for 1-3PM arrival as I was not getting keys to the new unit until 10AM and we wanted more time before they got there. The crew arrived just after 10AM; so to the best of their knowledge they were on time. I've worked for a moving company in the past so I understand that summers are crazy and little things like that can get missed. And really it worked out for the better. (2) While they did work fast, some furniture pieces were being slid across the laminate-wood floor without protection - I was very concerned about scratches in the floor. (3) There were a few dings in the walls going down the stairs - HOWEVER - they were carrying large, very heavy office desks down a narrow staircase, through a VERY TIGHT, 90 degree angle turn out of the door. This is a BUILDING FLAW. They took their time to get safely down the stairs as it took all three of them to carry and maneuver the furniture. The crew was incredibly professional, friendly, hard working and got a LOT done in spite of the 100 degree weather we had. The owner came out as we were moving into the new unit to check in and make sure all was well. Stephen, Nathan and Cedric were fantastic to work with. I would recommend using First Step Moving and I 100% intend to call them again in the future when I hope to be moving into a house! read more

We had 2 trucks and 6 people, all the guys were respectful showed up on time and treated all of our stuff very cautiously. They went above and beyond and I'm so thankful I found this company! Initially, customer service was great. On move day, I called to attempt to have movers come out a bit earlier than the 2-230 window that they gave me. I understood that it was short noticed and didn't really anticipate them being able to accommodate my request, but I thought it was worth a shot. I spoke to Christy who told me the movers actually wouldn't be there until closer to 4. I told her I was expecting them to honor the 30 minute window I was given, and that I had an appointment that the 4pm timeframe would make me late for. Things happen, I understand, but I told her I would appreciate it if they could get there as soon as possible. Christy responded very callously and sarcastically by saying, "I'm not sure what you expect them to do. Would you like them to leave the job they're working on to come move your things?" I thanked her for her rude remark and hung up the phone. Minutes later, she calls to tell me her husband had rescheduled my move to the later time. Something i was not informed of. At this point, she also offered me a discount. I thanked her and hung up the phone. Minutes later, she calls back and says movers will be at my place in 30 minutes or so. (They magically found some!) Movers were great. They were fast, friendly, and maneuvered through the difficult layout of my complex. Initial customer service was great, but Christy was very rude and I can't patronize a company owned by such an individual. For that reason I won't be using them again. read more

I just wrote s very long review but it did not post ! They did not live up to our contact. They were to pack on day one which we paid for by the hour, pack trucks and drive from Duncanville to Austin on day two and unload on third day. At the end of the first day we were informed that they ere going to finish everything Ion the second day! Boxes were clearly marked which room they went in but they were put everywhere mixed up. In the boxes they packed a lamp wax found in two different boxes marked for the same room but were find I different rooms. The hand pained glass top of the lamp has never been found. Top to blender they packed had never been packed. All parts of computer was never found and we had to without a computer until we could buy a new one. An accent table that had been in my husbands family was missing the next day. The only called answered by the movers said they found the table under Blakey's I hybrid truck but we later found out it had germ damaged, they did get it fixed and returned. I did but mention my concerns about other items as the table had great sentimental value and I wanted it back first. I did get it back and my subsequent email was never returned. I was told I should take further action but I just needed to get settled and on with my life. It was obvious they did not care. Please don't use this company. We paid over $7k for broken contacts and sloppy service. I read reviews before I signed and they were good so I doubt this will ever get posted read more

UPDATE: I spoke today on the phone with Joe (company owner) and he was wonderful! He listened to my concerns, he addressed the issues at hand, and he even offered some financial compensation. His customer service was wonderful and we are grateful that he took the time to listen to our concerns and help us to find a solution. If this is the level of service that we can receive, we would be willing to use First Step Moving for a future move. Joe - thank you for adding a personal touch to this experience! It made all the difference! I would like to start by saying that our first move with First Step was wonderful. We left a good review and felt like we were very well taken care of. That is why we chose to use them again last week for our recent home move. We scheduled a 3-man crew to arrive between 8-9 AM to move us across town in Dallas. We received our confirmation text the night before and felt ready to go. By 9:05 AM on the day of the move, we had not heard a thing from the movers. Finally, we got a call saying that they had trouble getting a truck and would be there by 10:30 to start. I am a stickler for punctuality - especially when I only have a weekend to complete my move - but I know things happen, so I let it go. By 11 AM, they still had not arrived. I tried to call the number back to ask them for their ETA, but they didn't answer. I called Christy (who scheduled our move) to ask what the deal was, but had to leave a voicemail. I asked her to call me back to discuss this mess-up because at this point, being over 2 hours late was not acceptable, especially with no communication of when the movers would actually arrive. Finally, the movers showed up and got to work. I called Christy a second time to let her know that they were here but that I still wanted her to call me back to discuss. She never called me. Instead, she sent an insincere text message offering us $20 off our move (which totaled almost $600 due to some slow moving.) Overall, the men being over 2.5 hours late with minimal communication with us resulted in us being behind on everything else for our move. We had cable/internet providers coming in to set up our new service. We had to complete our move-out of our old apartment before the leasing office closed. All of this was messed up because of this extreme tardiness. However, like I said, I understand things happen. So, I was not planning to review this company one way or the other until last night when I realized that 2 of my boxes did not make it to my new home. One of them showed up in the mail (thank God for honest people) because it had my address on it and they were kind enough to mail it. The other one, which had some family heirlooms inside, is lost. This is bizarre because I checked the truck before the men left. I am guessing that they sat the box outside of my old apartment complex and forgot to load it on the truck. Very unprofessional. They also put a huge gash in my new apartment wall due to manhandling a piece of furniture, they used packing tape to secure drawers on my wooden desk (which left sticky residue on the wood upon taking the tape off), and they did not come prepared with plastic wrap or padding to secure any of my furniture. This move was nothing short of a disaster. What disappoints me the most here is that after 2 voicemails to Christy asking her to call me back, she never did me the courtesy of calling. Good customer service is vital. Her frank text message reply in lieu of a personal phone call speaks volumes here. They are clearly not interested in resolving problems, even for repeat customers. We would have greatly appreciated a phone call to discuss. In fact, we would still welcome this customer service gesture. We want to know why our first move was so good, but this last one was polar opposite. read more

I cannot say enough things about this moving company. They were beyond amazing, I have moved more times than I can count, but First Step Moving is the absolute best. Bryon and his crew were extra careful with the disassembly, and reassembly of our furniture and carefully transported all of our items. This is the first move I have ever had where nothing was damaged. Not a scratch or dent on anything!! I have used other companies in the past, where the movers were extremely shady. This was so not the case with this 3 man crew. The guys were so kind and sweet, and treated us like family. They moved everything with a smile, even during a complete down pour of rain and up and down three flights of stairs. I had read other good reviews so chose this moving company, the owner was on it every time I emailed her so that was a good sign. The movers were supposed to be there between 9-10 they got there at almost 10:30. Ok fine no biggie, I emailed her 3 times saying "I have a sleep number w a flex fit base, can your guys move that?" 3 times she ASSURED me they could. Well guess what, they could not so my boyfriend had to figure it out on the fly which he did. It took the guys from 10:30 to almost 6 to move a 2 bedroom townhome with no boxes that time did not include them setting anything up because they didn't know how. All they did was drop it in the living room or bedroom. And they didn't even have a big enough truck, we had to go back and get the last few items ourselves that wouldn't fit. I promise we only had regular furniture in the house. I sent pics of everything. I can't imagine the nightmare if I had them take all our boxes it would have taken 2 trips and 12 hours!! I get that they move slow to make more money but it was ridiculous how slow they were. When they left the first house saying "we are right behind you" they decided to stop for lunch for 45 min or so but didn't think it was necessary to let us know so we just waited at the new house wondering where our furniture was. She ended up refunding us one hour but it was still a dreadful experience. Do not recommend. read more

If I get cut off because this is too long, i will not rewrite. I would give zero stars or big X's if i could. Stay far, far away! The absolute worst! Stay as far away from this company as possible. We are not the only family they totally wrecked the move, told another scheduled move a lie about their move, and caused another scheduled move to cancel out after they had the ability to observe a move with First Step Mover that was dishonest from the beginning. The crew does not talk to the Company and vice versa. Our scheduled movers showed up hours, late, with a rental truck that First Step told us the crew had not informed them they needed. Movers claimed they were not given the scheduled start time. Crew chief showed up 3 hours late. After partially wrapping our wood furniture in extreme heat, the crew chief shows up and said he notices "bed bugs" as he began to move our mattresses. This was right in the middle of the move. First, we had never heard of this lie, but Christy said it was "their" policy. We feel his finding was a fraud inspection and the inspector was a fraud and a liar. The next day, we called a certified inspector who was shocked. He inspected and said you do not have bed bugs anywhere. He put that in his written inspection report that he shared with many people. This company or any other company that gave us an estimate Never mentioned anywhere a fake inspection or any inspection would take place. This came up at about six in the evening. The crew arrived about 1:00 PM for a scheduled 11:00 am start. But It gets worse. The Crew chief claims he is authorized and qualified to perform this trick inspection. "He said we had bed bugs on two mattresses and that we could go get spays and bug bombs to kill them all. This was Thursday, he said would come back on Sunday night to reinspect and clear us to move and he demanded we buy his wrapping blankets for cash only, because he said "we" gave his blankets bed bugs while sitting all wrapped up on our porch as they loaded their rental truck. This would have happened on the fly and in spite of the furniture being all wood, wrapped in plastic wrap and sitting in the sun. Real pest control said they do not live in temperatures above 105 degrees. First Step Movers Off loaded all our furniture into our garage and smiled and left with several hundred dollars cash. Company still has our $50 deposit and has not even been friendly about hotels we had to rent, the double nights rent, the truck we rented and our friends voluntarily moving us. Our landlord called a certified pest inspector who gave us a written report that we had been totally given a false diagnosis. A real scam!! So after many tears , expenses and worry we finally moved about 4 miles up the road for something that would have been easy for a halfway decent mover. We asked for furniture moving only. No boxes, no packing or other services, thank goodness because they probably would have destroyed everything we owned. We ended up having to pay rent on two places until we could complete the move and one night hotel. The "real and qualified" Pest inspection said he had no idea what they were trying to do. We feel totally scammed since they quickly had a price of $200 for the blankets they required us to purchase from First Step Movers. We were required to pay cash for the blankets payment and we donated them to an animal rescue. Run from this First Step Mover! read more

If i knew ahead of time that there was a 2 hr min and yhey got there 5 hrs after schedule time. I'd had them move the rest of the big things since it took them 30 minutes to move the things. Hired First Step Movers to do a 4-hour container load for an out-of-state relocation. They showed up this morning on time at 8:04am (based on a promised arrival of 8:00-9:00am), so 5-stars for making good on their promise. Brian and his team were polite, professional, hard-working, and took incredible care of our belongings. The quality of their work was 6-stars in my opinion. The container was loaded securely and with great care. And they worked very efficiently. I highly Recommend First Step Movers for any of your moving requirements. I got to hand it to Joseph, it's not often I'm impressed by a company, but in this case I really am! Originally I had planned on renting a truck for our move from Dallas to Houston and just hiring movers at the beginning and end of the trip. I chose Next Step to load the truck due to their outstanding reviews on Yelp. When I spoke to Joseph on the phone, he mentioned they could do the whole move for only a few hundred more than renting a truck myself. I accepted the offer since this took a whole lot of stress away from me. Well today the move was completed and they did a great job! His crew was professional and very careful not only not to damage the furniture, but also not damage anything in my home. Even though they are located in Dallas area, I will definitely be calling them first if I have any other moves. If you are thinking of doing a move, I definitely recommend Next Step Moving!!!
