"Dr." Steven Stanten is a garbage pos excuse of a human. I have more bedside manner in a bowel movement than he does in his entire body. Do doctors not take oaths to help patients? This asshat told an elderly man with two painful hernias that they were absolutely fine and didn't need an excuse for work. When the man politely said "But Dr., I'm in pain. What do I do?", Stanten had the audacity to retort "What? Do you want to be off work a year?" Please do yourself a favor and do not visit this clown. read more

I visited this office twice. I had an extremely painful condition that did not improve quickly. Possibly misdiagnosed on the first visit. Dr. Stanten prescribed some cream on my second visit. I called 6 days later for urgent help and relief from extraordinary pain and was told: "Telephone Encounter Joann L at 8/30/2023 4:31 PM Patient wanted to schedule follow up w/Dr. Stanten because he is in pain and cannot sleep. Appt scheduled for next Tues but was cancelled per Dr. Stanten because he cannot do anything else for the patient. It takes at least 4 to 6 weeks for healing. Patient informed." My MOTHER WAS RIGHT, STEVEN! This doctor is lacking in basic kindness, compassion and professionalism. I certainly will not return to this practice. read more

I've seen Dr Stanton twice. Both times he was somewhat dismissive of my condition- hernia & was told to (I'm paraphrasing) - wear a truss & learn to live with it. So much for the Hippocratic oath. I shall not be returning. read more

I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Steven Stanten when I was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia. I found him to be highly compassionate and caring. He patiently answered my many questions and enabled me to understand my options. I elected to have him perform the surgery, which was done the end of August. Recovery was surprisingly easy, and I have fully recovered from the hernia and have been able to resume all my activities. I highly recommend Dr. Stanten. read more

I had very good experience with them. But I made sure that I do my job, by calling, reminding and asking questions, not just waiting to be served. Dr. Brideric-Villa is very skilled with his surgery. I have very good recovery and the insecsion is clean cut. read more

We saw Dr Stanten last year, he diagnosed my husband had a small hernia, but no need to have any medical procedure and no doctor would perform surgery on it, and he just left the room within 5 mins. We were just in shock by his behavior, because my husband suffered a lots of pain. We wasted money, time and energy with Dr Stanten. Then we went to another doctor, that doctor advised hernia repair surgery. After the surgery, my husband have no more pain and healthy all along. I still do not understand why Dr Stanten could miss diagnose my husband like that. read more

I have an idiopathic condition for almost 2 years now that I've been seeing one doctor after another to try to figure out. We live in the east bay so I've seen doctors around here, and now I'm seeing doctors at UCSF. My wife went with me to most of these doctor's appointments. Never have we experienced anything like what my wife experienced with Dr. Steven A. Stanten, who deserves 0 star. My wife waited one hour and left without seeing this doctor. The front office was cold and uncaring. At the lobby, my wife had to ask for water twice before getting it. After waiting half an hour, my wife came out of the examination room to tell the front office about the long wait. The woman asked if my wife needed to make the next appointment, assuming that since it's been half an hour my wife must have already seen the doctor! Then after 45 minutes, my wife came and asked again about the long wait. The same excuse was given, that the doctor was with another patient. Then my wife left after waiting one whole hour. I've heard people complain about waiting long, but it is actually rare. My whole life experience with seeing doctors (I"m in my 70s) has been that the wait is usually no more than 20 minutes. It is unacceptable and unconscionable for Dr. Stanten to do this to a patient. read more

Went to Dr. Stanton for a surgical consultation. He recommended some specific tests to see exactly what was going on with my reflux, which sounded smart to me. I told him my insurance was going to run out in 2-3 months so I needed to move as quickly as possible on finding a course of treatment while it was still affordable. He told me to go have the tests done, tell them I needed the results sent back as fast as possible, and then call his office about a week later to get the results and talk about what to do next. That was in May. I took the first available appointment for the tests, in mid-June. Since then, I have left SEVEN messages at his office asking for a call back about my results. I have been calling for six weeks, and every time I'm told something like "he'll call you this afternoon." "He'll call you tomorrow as soon as he gets in." "He's on vacation this week but I'll have a physician assistant call you." "He's just back from vacation but he'll call you today or tomorrow." I am beside myself at this point. My annual out of pocket limits have re-set meaning any future treatment is going to cost me much more than it would have six weeks ago. Do I have to go camp out in their lobby and refuse to leave until the doctor talks to me? I suppose they would prefer that I make (and pay for) an appointment but I was told "call to discuss your results" so that's what I'm doing. This is no way to treat your patients. read more

Dr. Horoupian is truly a great doctor. My dad has had many complications with his hemorrhoid surgery but doctor always made sure my dad was taken care of. We are glad to have him oversee his case. My father is feeling much better now. read more

I had outpatient surgery performed by Dr. Rupert Horoupian. Really great guy and a great surgeon, for what I had anyway. The office staff seemed very nice and helpful. My case was almost on an emergency/immediate basis and they were able to get me in the same day, no problem. Dr. Horoupian had been in several surgeries all day long but made the time to do my procedure at the end of a very long day. read more

Dr. Horoupian is a fantastic surgeon who truly cares about his patients. My condition escalated for the worse and he found the time (between surgeries) on a Friday before he was about to go on vacation to fit me in for the day. He's very responsive, professional, and took the time to answer all my questions. Highly recommended! read more

Everytime I come here for an appointment, i always wait ed for more than 30- 45 min, before I even get in to the room. Then another 10-15 before i see a doctor. Patient should allow to charge the medical office for waiting time. read more

Though the doctors here are very high quality and very kind, the office staff is seriously disorganized and unable to keep up with their workload. If you have a serious health issue (say, cancer) and are the kind of person who needs to know that you are in good hands with respect to appointments, tests, authorizations, and all the behind the scenes office type stuff, I would not advise coming to this office. I was amazed at how many times I needed to call them, remind them, bug them, for even the most basic things. It's too bad the office administration cannot support adequately the high quality doctors here. read more

Dr. Paul Suding is the most amazing person and surgeon. I went to the hospital feeling like I was having a heart attack but it turns out it was my gall bladder. He took fabulous care of me, even performing the emergency surgery on a holiday. His bedside manner is soothing and careful and his post-operative care is tender. Although he looks young, he is knowledgeable and skilled, wrapped in a kind and sweet package. I highly recommend Dr. Suding and Dr Stanton is also well respected. read more

I went to First Surgical Consultant in Hayward, Ca following a referral of a professional from Bay Valley Medical Group due to a lump on my breast. After a week of not hearing back from First Surgical Consultants, I called their office and I was told that they either had lost the referral or they hadn't received it. That should had been the FIRST CLUE for me to not waste my time there. Anyways, the attendant was really nice and she set up an appointment with Doctor Gregory Broderick-Villa about 4 WEEKS from then. That should had been my SECOND CLUE. The attendant told me that they would send me a package with paperwork for me to fill out prior to the visit. 3 days prior to the consultation, I called their office in Hayward because I hadn't received the material. The person who answered the phone realized that they had never sent me the package. THIRD CLUE, but I was blind. I saw doctor Broderick on August 4th. I waited about an hour! He examined me and comment on the probability of that lump being cancer. He said there was a very small chance that it was cancer "like 1%", but the only way of ruling it out was to do a biopsy. He suggested surgery/biopsy or needle biopsy. I told him I had to think about it. I called their office 2 business days after to schedule a needle biopsy. I was told I had to wait for doctor Broderick to put the order in. 1 WEEK later and no call from them. FORTH CLUE. I called their office again and I spoke to his scheduler DeAngela. She called me the next day because doctor Broderick had finally put the order in! Hooray, but no. He put the order in for a surgery when I had asked for a needle biopsy. Not sure where the information got lost, but still, the order was incorrect. The next day, I called DeAngela again and asked her to change that order. She told me she would send doctor Broderick a message to clarify things. That was 8/17. I called their office 8/19, 8/23, and no return from Doctor Broderick. WAS THAT ANOTHER CLUE? Yes, the LAST CLUE I needed. I finally woke up from that stupid process I was going through. On 8/30, doctor Broderick himself called me to ask if I wanted to do a needle biopsy. I spoke to him and said yes even though I had already visited a PCP from another medical group that morning. FINALLY, Doctor Broderick referred me to his colleagues Dr. Bailey and Dr. Kidwell's from Bay Area Breast Surgeon for the needle biopsy. That's another review, but I can guarantee they have administrative issues as well. When an attendant answers the phone and says she doesn't know how to set up a needle biopsy appointment and ask you to call again later or the next day, you know it won't work. Like I said, I visited a PCP from another medical group on 8/30 and things are going well there except that I have been diagnosed with cancer and I have some indication on my lymph nodes now due to the waiting :/ When I first visited doctor Broderick, there was no indications on my underarm. I believe I was put on some kind of low priority list since doctor Broderick believed the chance of my problem being cancer was really low. I will speak out on this issue because I don't want anybody else going through this. My whole experience with First Surgical Consultant group was really bad. Not only the doctor was unprofessional for letting me wait so long, but also the administrative part of it seems to be a mess. They lose paperwork, they don't send you paperwork when they are supposed to, etc. read more

Dr. Steven A. Stanten was far and away one of the most brilliant, caring, dedicated surgeons ever. He actually was called to Jury Duty the morning of my surgery and asked me to go ahead and prep for surgery while he drove out to the outer reaches of the East Bay, beyond the Caldecott Tunnel (believe me, things change once you enter that place of no-return), showed up for Jury Duty, was dismissed and raced back to the hospital to perform my surgery. Not elective. The result of an acute and, potentially, life-threatening condition complicated by an overt required surgical intervention once stabilized. He visited me after hours on his own time in street clothes, again in doctor clothes, again -- all BEFORE the surgery. He prepped my wife and de-briefed her directly. My sister was there and told me how impressed she was that he "got" that we were married and that my wife should be treated as any other spouse. I cannot speak more highly of Dr. Steven A. I recently had gall bladder surgery by Dr. Paul Suding. Because of a liver condition that I have, Dr. Suding took the time and made the effort to contact my other doctors to consult about the whether there would be any problems or if maybe I should have the surgery at UCSF or UC Davis where my other specialists could be available in case it became necessary. As it turned out, there was no need and Dr. Suding did the surgery. He was so comforting and made me feel that I was in good hands. He also made me feel that I was in control of my recovery by assuring me that no one was going to rush me home. And I really appreciated that since, because of my liver condition, this surgery, though much easier than conventional surgery, was still difficult for me. I can't say enough about Dr. Suding as a surgeon, and most especially as a very compassionate person. I highly recommend him. read more
