Not so urgent if you're on Medicaid. Felt slightly dizzy for a while and came in for a check up, thinking it would avoid the long wait to schedule an appointment with my GP. I live locally. First Care would did not care to help me. I was handed a sheet of paper with other medical facilities on it, mostly located in Poughkeepsie, or other places out of the area. The doctors and PAs are great but the rest of the experience is TERRIBLE. They send you for bloodwork but they don't send anything to LabCorp. I have to call, which is an annoying process on its own since it keeps going to voicemail, and they say they have to FAX the order...like its the 1990s. EVERY OTHER DOCTOR I HAVE SENDS THE ORDER ELECTRONICALLY! I waited an hour at LabCorp between the voicemail and faxes that "didn't go through". I'm done and going to a new doctor. It's not worth the unnecessary aggravation to deal with this place. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL! read more

The PA, Ashley Takacs's report was full of inaccuracies and she severely misdiagnosed me. I went there because blood was coming through the pores on my nose. She said I had an infection which was most definitely not the case. I told her that I just started on Divalproex Sodium. If she knew anything about drugs or had the common sense to think that was the culprit, since I had just started taking ,it she could have made a proper diagnosis. Instead she wanted to put me on doxycycline, which makes me deathly sick to my stomach and unable to eat. For some reason this did not register with her and she insisted that would be the best thing for me. Besides seeing an infection that was not there she also saw a scab that wasn't present. My only conclusion was that she was either hallucinating or just totally oblivious to my condition. I think the best think for her and any prospective patients would be to quit the medical field since she is so grossly incompetent. When I got home I went online, which she could have easily done, and found out a side effect of Divalproex Sodium is bleeding through the pores for no reason. There absolutely was no cut, infection or scab present which I could clearly see,but she could not seem to process this. When I found out this information I called to speak with her, so she could be informed of what was really going on with me and maybe learn from her incredibly stupid mistakes. She did not call me back, but her boss Steven Weinman called me an told me that he went over her report and she did everything right. Yhis was extremely incredulous to me, since he had not even seen me and was in no position to see that there was no infection or scab. If he had seen me he would have realized that I had been misdiagnosed. I told him since the treatment was the worst I had received in 74 years of medical appointments and that I did not intend to may the copay, he became furious and shouted at me "If you come here you pay!" Then a few days later I received a letter from him stating that First Care would no longer treat me. I did some research and apparently this is illegal without due cause which he did not have. So I am now suing him for $3000 in small claims court for the abysmal treatment That I received. In addition to a gross misdiagnosis I was repeatly offered a drug that would make me violently ill. And then because of their mistakes I was denied future treatment, which is illegal under the law. read more

The facility at first care walk in medical Center in Highland New York is clean and neat. The receptionist was nice the medical assistant was nice but I did ask for a doctor I was told there was no doctor there. I had a bad UTI and I've been running a fever. They took a culture I went in the next day in terrible pain because the medication they gave me was burning up my stomach. I was then told that if that one wasn't working I could take three days of another medication. I waited for somebody to call me with the results to the culture. I called to find out what the results of the tests were they said they didn't have it yet. I called again to find out what the test results were. Now past 4 days. Later that day Dr. Wyman calls My Home and two calls came in at the same time and I asked him who is this please. I asked him about the results and he says that I had been rude to him I wondered how I could be rude to him by asking him who is this please. He told me that he was banning me from his practice. This was based on his opinion of how I answered the phone. I told him that I would let somebody know about how he treated me on August 16 he sent out a letter telling me that I was not going to be able to come in to his practice and then I should seek elsewhere medical opinions. I must say that when I asked him what should I do he told me to go to the emergency room because I had a fever for five days. This is while I've been on the medication that they prescribed me. This place ROCKS! Everytime my dingy, local HMO clinic screws up, I immediately head to FirstCare. My checklist on this place is consistent: First, it is a gorgeous, superclean building. Second, the check in is immediate. Third, the wait is short. Fourth, the nurses are sunshine: sweet and helpful. Finally, the physicians. They are a diverse, experienced group, whose doctor-patient rapport is exemplary. I have been to this facility at least 5 times and always walked away feeling safe and cared for. Recently went to first care because my primary didn't have An opening. Dr. Weinman was sexist, arrogant and argumentative! He gave the appearance that he was high on something? He opened with, quote "women your age that present with this is due to stress". If your a women and go to first care, do NOT See Dr. Weinman! This place is excellent. I was visiting the area for my niece's birthday today. I was treated with so much respect as if I had been a patient of theirs for years. It is clear that they have a true passion for caring about their patients. The receptionists (Sean and Lori), the PA (Jaimie) and X-ray tech (Paul) I saw were equally incredible. In a visit to my moms house for Thanksgiving my husband accidentally sliced the tip of his finger off with a mandolin. As if that's not crappy enough were forced to go to a local urgent care center, FirstCare. I'm giving it a three because the staff was nice but with a three hour wait I really want to give it a 1. I've been to plenty of these places down in the city where we live and they have mastered the art of production line for sick people. Here, they are seeing a person an hour. Very surprised my husband didn't bleed to death. My suggestion is keep on driving over the bridge to Poughkeepsie where you have 2 hospitals and several urgent care centers in a mile. read more

My husband & I are very grateful for the outstanding care we received from the First Care staff ,Dr, Stephen Weinman and his incredible nurse Mary, during a very scary emergency. My husband needed stitches due to a deep cut in his finger and hand. We called First Care, they told us there might be a 20 minute wait, so we left a very over-crowded waiting room at a hospital in Poughkeepsie with a 5 1/2 hr. wait time,. We headed to their office on 299 in Highland N.Y.. We were brought back to an exam room immediately- no wait. The staff was incredibly friendly, professional, and calming. Their nurse Mary came in and tended to my husbands hand, cleaning it, while getting the whole story, with the best bedside manner, either of us had experienced in a long while. The doctor came in shortly after to evaluate his wound. It was our very lucky day! Dr. Weinman very confidently told us that he would be able to stitch him up and treat him.He had an incredible bed side manner as well, easing my husband's mind, because he never had stitches before. He took his time, making sure there would show little evidence, if any, that he had an accident when it heals. He did a wonderfully precise, stitching of his finger. Nurse Mary came back in & further cleaned, medicated , dressed , and splinted his hand. Her ease of taking care of the wound made us believe she had quite a bit of experience. We were so grateful that we left the emergency room and had First Care treat my husband. Prior to my internet search, I had no idea a walk-in urgent care facility stitched and took care of wounds. During the COVID quarantine I had a previously ocuring bacterial infection rear it's ugly head. As an immune compromised person I was worried about venturing outside. Absolute worst place to go if you are feeling sick, the wait time is tremendous everyone their acts like you're a burden to them because nobody wants to do the job. If you want to go to the hospital and spend a shit ton of money then First Care is the place for you because I'll tell you you have illnesses and send you to the emergency room for you to be fine. Lady at reception desk was bothered that I came in so close to closing, refused to help me because I had stomach pains and said it was because they had no way of actually determining a cause there. Dr. Weinman gave our 3 yr old stitches yesterday in a very delicate place. He was so patient and kind to our son. He could've recommended that we take him to the hospital but thanks to him we didn't have to make our toddler sit in the ER all day. I give the Highland FirstCare Walk-In two stars only because the facility is modern and clean and the care was prompt. However, my interaction with Dr. Stephen Weinman was less than satisfactory. Dr. Weinman's laid-back, careless attitude showed a lack of empathy and an inability to explain what options might be useful. I felt like I was making every effort to elicit information from a man who made it very clear he was completely uninterested in caring for me as an individual. I'm consistently shocked at the poor human care that is offered from those in the medical profession. They've either become really callous or lazy or both, but connecting with each person who walks in the door, having a real discussion, offering advice and making sure patients' questions are answered is as important as figuring out what's going on in the body. read more

Went yesterday for an urgent care visit and this is the best urgent care I have ever experienced. The staff were polite and efficient. The clinic was clean, lovely and calming. I went in on 1/7/16 after walking into a piece of splintered wood on a hardwood floor. At first I thought I had sliced open the bottom of my foot, but after removing my sock, I was even more horrified to find one single puncture wound, and could feel the wood running almost the length of my entire foot. I was rushed to FirstCare Medical Center where they removed two tiny pieces of wood fragments. I insisted there was more in there, I felt it go in and I could feel it in my foot, though it was quite deep in there. They implied I was being dramatic, and sent me on my way WITHOUT antibiotics or a tetanus shot or ANY aftercare instructions. On 1/10/16 I visited a primary who put me on antibiotics and gave me a tetanus shot. After finishing that course of antibiotics with no response, my foot was lanced and I was given another dose of more powerful antibiotics. All I while I was insistent that there was still wood in my foot. This morning, 02/01/16, 3 and a half weeks after the injury, I removed a 4.5" piece of wood from my foot. I've been to this clinic twice. Once because my son had a terrible allergy induced rash all over his body. The doctor suggested several treatment options but they were things I had already tried. When I tried to explain to him that I'd already tried those remedies unsuccessfully he got very angry and started berating me, asking me why I even came there and what exactly did I expect him to do about it. I was shocked, I honestly was trying to get the best solution for my son by giving the doctor all the available information. I was worn down with worry for my kid and actually started crying in the examination room. It was awful. The second time was even worse because they refused to see us at all. I brought my daughter in for an injury to her knee and when I told them what insurance we have they said they didn't take that type of insurance. I said that was no problem, I'd just pay out of pocket since my deductible was almost the same as the out of pocket cost anyway. They told me that because I had that particular insurance I wasn't allowed to pay out of pocket. They literally told me that they wouldn't take my insurance AND they wouldn't let me pay because of my insurance! They told me to go to the emergency room in Poughkeepsie. I've been here numerous times and have never had a problem, or waited a long time to be seen. It saves a lot of time coming here versus the emergency room for routine sickness and what not (they take care of a lot of things here besides just sickness though) The desk staff and medical staff are very friendly and helpful, and I would highly recommend this location. read more

In the past, they have been helpful, although the wait is average 1-2 hours. Recently, I was experiencing a painful infection, and had called to make sure they accept my Insurance. The receptionist insisted my insurance would be accepted, and that they could help me. I even asked twice to make sure I'd be covered. When I arrived, I was told my insurance isn't accepted there; and that even if I wanted to I can't pay out of pocket. It was really frustrating but luckily I found another place to help me. I've visited FirstCare several times both for my kids and for myself. Several times for bronchial asthma and also for a severe case of poison ivy. The most I've had to wait was 20 minutes. For my son's asthma we got to see a doctor immediately. The doctors where very knowledgeable and communicative which is a rare quality. The place is also the cleanest medical office I've ever seen which makes you feel like you're not going in for poison ivy and coming out with some terrible virus. I would go here before going to the Vassar ER which is horrific. read more

Very unhappy with my experience there. Dr. Weinman did not listen to my concerns, did not check up on my medical history, did not make me feel like a cared for patient. Not only did I feel as though he brushed me off, but I also feel like I got attitude from the receptionist when I called to voice my concerns. Doors Locked. Found a door buzzer speaker system pressed it. Was told they are not taking anyone else they already had two people and it would take them 45 minutes to take care of them. Q: Can you tell of any Urgent care facilities near by. Answer No. Can I wait 45 minutes and see someone Answer: No. Q: Can some at least look at my wounds and tell me if I need stitches before I make the hour drive to the hospital. Answer: no. I went to my car made some phone calls within minutes employees came out of the building smiling and drove off. I recently lacerated my finger while preparing garlic bread for guests. I immediately rinsed the wound with cold water and applied compression for about 30 minutes. I then called my family physician's office to see if they would determine if It needed stitches. I was instructed to go to the nearest hospital. I went to First Care instead and was very satisfied with the care I received. I was sutured by a very personable and professional female physician (sorry I have forgotten your name) and was home in no time and able to continue cooking my dinner. The discharge instructions were extremely helpful, I haven't experienced any complications and look forward to having the stitches removed next week so I can personally thank the staff for the excellent care I received. read more

It's been a long time since I've been to this facility, but I would NEVER go back and I would NEVER recommend it to anyone. I had gone in because I was sure I had an ear infection. I did in fact have an ear infection and was given an antibiotic. I was concerned about the amount of milligrams prescribed to me. I have several friends that are nurses so I went on facebook to reach out to them, not to bash, just to be certain while I waited for a call from my primary care physician. I explained the dosage on the medicine and my concern. I asked my nurse friends if I should take the medicine. In the meantime, my physician called and said, "DO NOT take that. It's way too much for you." The next day I received a call for the doctor who owns this establishment and he told me I was "banned" from coming to First Care because I "bashed" them on Facebook.
