Went twice in one week back in January, both unpleasant experiences. First night i went because of severe lower abdominal pain, they did blood work, ct scan, urine labs, all came back "clear" according to the dr, he also said that when my urinalysis came back it was clear. Well he lied, I checked my charts when i got home to see that there was actually blood, protein, white blood cells, and cloudiness in my urine, the ct scan also showed thickening of bladder wall. I went to urgent care two days later to find I had a kidney infection. Imagine if I had taken the ER doctors word, my infection would've gone untreated. Few days later i went back feeling severely unwell, worsening pain. The nurse did not hook up my vitals which was the first concern, then she brings in morphine, I asked her not to give it to me because I did not want it, she did not listen and said "we want to stay ahead of the pain" and proceeds to put it in my IV, I then had a very severe reaction to it, and there was no way for them to see my vitals because they were not hooked up. She flushed my IV after I begged her to get it out of me. Overall, terrible experience with this hospital, and I refuse to go here ever again, I'd much rather suffer a long ride to UNC or Duke if i'm ever experiencing something like that again. read more

All members of the staff that were assigned to my mom during her stay were wonderful, very positive and seamed to be enjoying their job. Everyone was very friendly and courteous in every aspect of our journey. From the volunteers who were in the surgical waiting room, to the cleaning staff and even in the cafeteria, all staff members were friendly and supportive and offered guidance when needed. We are very pleased to have been taken care of at this facility. read more

This used to be my favorite hospital for many years but I had a bad experience a few years back that I was too distraught to write a review about and didn't come back until today to give it another chance. I came in pain and left in pain. No one bothered to look at the main reason I came in and instead blamed it on the history of one of my conditions. Now I have to go somewhere else. I don't think I should have to pay for this when it was clear that my needs were not met. I hope they understand that if something happens to me it was due to their lack of examination. I'm still disoriented and told to go home without my head and face even being touched or examined. Went to the ER - took almost 4 hours to get admitted. However - once I got admitted, the attention to care was awesome. First Health Moore made an error in the bill submitted to Medicare for my bloodwork. Because of their error, Medicare refused to reimburse. I have spent the past three weeks attempting to get First Health to correct their error. Billing's response was to simply reduce the charge. When asked why, she said it was based on my income. Curious since no one asked about my income. Then I wrote the office of their CEO asking him to get someone to look into this. No response. Finally I contacted their Patient Advocate and explained the situation. She said she would contact a supervisor in Billing. A week later, still no response from anyone. What a pathetic way to run a business!! Bottom line, you need to carefully scrutinize your bills from First Health Moore because they will never correct their mistakes! read more

My mother died less than 1 hour after being discharged from this hospital! The hospital does not know what caused my mothers death AND they did not take action to have an autopsy done to find the cause. On 10/20/22 my mother was admitted to FirstHealth Montgomery Hospital for "observation for further treatment of ACUTE worsening of COPD with associated low levels of oxygen in her blood." "On October 24, 2022, she had GOOD oxygen saturation without any supplemental oxygen while at erst and when moving around. In the provider's CLINICAL JUDGMENT she had met MAXIMAL medical benefit from hospitalization and was STABLE for discharge to home." Less than an hour later my mom collapsed in the parking lot of my brothers' house. My sister-in-law and my brother had to try to give her CPR to keep her alive. This was in front of my two nephews who where 2 and 3 years old at the time. My brother and sister-in-law had to watch my mothers' life slip away in their arms WHILE my nephews watched, horrified! The ambulance came and brought my mother to FirstHealth Moore Regional - Emergency Department. By then she was unresponsive. She was admitted to ICU and CT findings showed that she was too far gone to recover. She officially died at 10:50pm that same day. The SAME day she was discharged from FirstHealth Montgomery Memorial Hospital. We had to inquire for two years to try and find out what caused her death. Two years! After years of going through hoops and trying to get answers, FirstHealth Moore Regional finally wrote me an OFFICIAL letter and let me know that the Associate Medical Director, Hospitalist did a review. They said that my mothers' death "did not meet criteria for notification to the Medical Examiner and FirstHealth does not perform autopsies". They also wrote that "the heart attack she [my mother] suffered after discharge was unfortunate, unexpected, and unforeseen". I reached back out with more questions via email because "heart attack" was not on my mothers' death certificate as the cause of death. They then responded with "Please accept our apology for the misstatement provided in our previous response of August 20, 2024, indicating that Ms. Decatur had a heart attack. Our response should have indicated that Ms. Decatur suffered a cardiac arrest after her discharge as opposed to a heart attack. Cardiac arrest means her heart stopped; a heart attack means that the blood flow in a heart vessel was interrupted which results in heart injury or sometimes death." I still have so many questions. It's hard for me to believe and accept the fact that my mother was in this hospital for 3 to 4 days being monitored and treated, with NO SIGNS that she was about to have multiple heart failure, and then she is discharged because it is the "clinical judgment" that she's good to go home, but then has multiple organ failure less than an hour later. Why was she discharged? Why was there no sign of her organs failing while she was hospitalized for 4 days? Why was there no autopsy done to find a cause for her organ failure? Why do we STILL not know what caused my mothers' death???!!! read more

So I have never been to this place until today. Unfortunately a close family member is here for some issues. The parking at this place is awful they have like 40 spots and literally every spot is taken. They have a ton of spots that are reserved or something. I think it's insane that I can't park anywhere here without being towed for being in a reserved spot. Dennis at registration in the ER, Richmond co location is so insanely rude. His tone, the way he talks to u is just so disrespectful and rude and I can't understand why he continues to have a job there still... he'll be really rude then try and come around with something "funny" or nice" but then loop around again and be rude. I had interaction with him multiple times the same day and each time he made me feel inadequate, stupid and degraded. He needs training on how to properly talk to people especially ones who are in a vulnerable situation. read more

Outpatient facility: During a visit to see a sick family member, checkin was required which was expected. What I did not expect was for an African-American family to be stopped and not a white family. If check-ins are required, then why were they not required to check in as well. No badges were on them nor did the receptionist stop them when she was questioned about letting them go through. I never thought I would have seen this happen, but it's sad to have witnessed this...SMH Every rule should apply to everyone and not just a select few. read more

I cannot overstate how horrifically managed this emergency room is. The staff are not only calloused, they have no regard or empathy for any patient entering their doors. To be able to let your eyes just glaze over, blissfuly ignoring multiple people experience cardiac or other events that clearly require immediate triage, and do nothing is terrifying. To watch an entire staff do this over and over is one of the most chilling and disgusting sides of humanity. I hope the nurses read this and remember that they too will be sick one day, and when the shoe is on the other foot, I hope the guilt haunts you forever. This is not healthcare. If you can find any other emergency room, go there. This hospital is dangerous at best. I was not even seen or addressed while having a mini stroke and left in a wheelchair attempting to ask for help as my child cried. Not one person helped me. Not. One. First Health, you should be ashamed. This is not the first time you've almost killed multiple patients with negligence. Sadly, I have had the misfortune of visiting the dystopian nightmare of an emergency room more than once. I've watched nurses mute patient call buttons, allow patients to fall out of a stretcher and lay on the floor for prolonged periods while they roll their eyes and become angry they need help. I've seen your highest paid administrators become put off if a patient call button interupts their photo ops. It's disgusting. They have a chart in the ER celebrating that the nurses finally hit a record "high" of washing their hands 65% of the time. Did you all learn nothing in the schools you attended to earn your degrees? RATING-MINUS 5 I have been sitting in this er for now going on 4.5 hours. I was sent, and need to be seen for a surgery consult by my physician who called ahead. I have what they think is severe Gallbladder disease. What a dump!!!! I was literally screaming in the parking lot from pain. The other patients cared but not these people. We told them I needed to lay down somewhere and they said well you can go to your car and took my phone number. After just checking on the status I was told I was bumped because I was outside. From about 11:45pm on 4/16/22 current present of 4/17/22 @ 4:06am. I have been sitting with 3 other families( 1 of which has a new born baby) have watched several people walk in & be seen before these others & leave. I am diabetic with Charcot Foot on right foot & a broken shine & knee cap on the left foot. The index toe on my left foot has turned purple, the shine part is turning red & purple with mass swelling & intense severe pain. Yet we still can't be seen & several people have walked out. Moore regional use to be good but now you can't even get an aspirin. read more

My mom came to the ER by ambulance and her BP dropped so low that when they got her here, they cut off all her clothes. There were around 14 people in the room. That was 7 hours ago and now we can't get 1 person to pay any attention to her. We have met exactly 1 nice person since we've been here. First of all, the deduction of one star is due to the heat problem in the waiting room of the Outpatient Center of the Hospital. Fortunately, one of the nurses took me back to a room in the surgical prep area, and even gave me an IV. I appreciated this so very much because my doctor was running behind, as one patient required close to three hours extra time in the OR. All of the nurses I dealt with were great. They even provided meal tickets for my friends that were there with me because they had to wait so long. And Dr. Heathcote was finally able to get me started around 1900 or 1930. Yes, this man was still to take care of his patients. Both the nurses and Dr. Heathcote spoke to my friends and explained my post surgical care. And Dr. Heathcote ensured that my friends were able to pick up my prescription, as the pharmacy was closing at 1900. Surgery is not fun, but the staff made it as pleasant of an experience as they could. Oh, and Dr. Heathcote's nurses at his office were amazing in answering all of my questions prior to my surgery. read more

First the hand sanitizer machine is empty by the front door and several and I mean several patients are not wearing their mask. Now I could care less if you wear your mask to Walmart or the dollar store but to the hospital damn right I care! I went to er on march 5th at 800 pm for treatment of not urinating. sat in waiting room until 0730am before I was taken back. 11 hours and 30 minutes! when er doctor came in he said he was the doctor who was going to treat me. did not introduce himself by name. so unprofessional! I told him my symptons and he said he could insert catheter which the nurse did. that was all that was done. nothing for as why I was having trouble urinating. I guess the ceo of first health in Pinehurst , mickey foster, is just concerned about his 580,000 a year job and how much money he can save more than the quality of patient care! Such a shame that people seeking help have to go through such insensitive treatment! read more

What a living nightmare. After fainting on the way to my bathroom I reluctantly called the ambulance. I avoid ER's at all cost, being a patient since I was very young. When I got into medics Truck, I realized I was not in a good place. They did not know what illness I had, or had never heard of it, and although I was seizing they did not take notice as they were not aware there are over 30 types of seizures. (mine were myoclonic) At the ER they put me in the non emergency section where no one was working. I was writhing in pain with extreme nausea and tremors.. The physician I saw did not examine me only test me for Ethanol which I found out later after checking my test results. I felt as though I was back in 1822 not 2022. After doing a CBC and vitals I was told all my 'perfect' and asked what I thought should be done...?? What? I had a fever (which they didn't take) I was having seizures (noted in the after summary report but did not treat) I was experiencing syncope (noted but not treated) I was sweating profusely, nausea no appetite or food in over 10 days. Again the Dr on call never examined me just slouched up against the door telling me all my BW looked 'great' all my vitals were 'great' and they didn't know what to do with me. I have a 30+ year of RA, with a severely suppressed immune system. I kept querying if indeed my BW showed no issues. This on call Dr kept assuring me all was 'perfect'. I told them I just wanted to go home. They couldn't even get an IV in me. I was having so many seizures. This didn't seem to bother them at all and after two days of being back at home, still battling a high fever, tremors, seizures, syncope nausea and a host of other things I can only describe as being dragged through hell backwards I looked up my results myself on myfirsthealth chart. When I did so I was gobsmacked. My results were hardly.. 'perfect'. . My white blood cell count was highly elevated. I was in tachycardia. My blood pressure was through the roof when it's normally spot on. My blood ox rate was low. And yet this little emotionally detached DR told me to go home and eat crackers?? There is a systemic gender bias here in the US. if you're a woman, especially middle-aged and very vocal about your symptoms they treat you like some hysteric back in the 19th century. (hysteria literally comes from hysterectomy where dr's used to think removing a woman's uterus would help her 'calm down') After reviewing my results again, I saw this 'Dr' had called for an Ethanol test! WTAHeck? Alcohol? So they sent me home and told me to eat crackers. Granted this is not a one off experience at this hospital. I would rather be treated by the local barber (they used to perform surgery on people, before they had real science based medicine ) before I would trust this ER, or hospital. They obviously do not care unless you are a young white male. i was gender typed age/stereotyped and sent home with outright lies about my CBC. I will never return to this hospital and would rather die alone on my kitchen floor than ever return. They pose a dangerous treat to the community here. Understaffed and emotionally detached. This is for the ER. I took my daughter, 11yo, in the day after her tonsillectomy because she was having issues holding down fluids. I called and talked to the ENT on call, lucky for her it was the Doctor who did her surgery. He told me to bring her in to get fluids because she could be dehydrated. We waited for 3 hours. I asked the front desk if the doctor was aware we were there, the receptionist stated she didn't know who the doctor was and that she will see the ENT after we get admitted, but she couldn't tell me when that would be. So we left. I called and talked to her doctor and told him we left. I told him how she was doing, the Doctor apologized and told me it was OK to bring her home since she held down her water during the wait. This is not the first time I have left that ER and went to a different hospital, Womack Army Medical, and was seen almost immediately. The Hospital itself is great, the First Health System is great, the ER at Moore Regional is horrible don't go there if you can avoid it, or go by ambulance; But be warned even then you're still going to wait in the hallway, as I heard the front receptionist state to family who came in looking for someone who was brought in by ambulance three times. read more

So basically i come in today at the ER around 5:30 in the worst stomach pain of my life, i had been puking for 8 hours that day so i finally decided to go to my local ER. I described the pain i was in and they seemed really concerned at first...that did last long. I was SHIVERING...couldn't feel my hands or feet, I ask the receptionist for a blanket and she tells me "no" With no explanation. If I could give their emergency room a "0" rating I would. The employees that you deal with one on one are all very good people but someone in their upper management does not know how to run an ER. I was in pain and was in the waiting room for approximately 3 PM until 11 PM before I seen a doctor. There was one gentleman their who said he had been there since 8 am. It was about 9 PM before he saw a doctor. Another couple was there at 11 AM and were still in the waiting room when I left at 11:30 PM. After young woman was there with a kidney stone and was basically told she had to wait even though she was in severe pain. After my exam I remained the room they put in for at least 20-25 minutes before they told me I could leave. The way I see it that is 20 minutes someone else could have been using that room. Lowest rating possible for the ER, highest rating for the ER employees that you deal with one on one. I have had surgery in the past the hospital and was impressed however at this point I will never use their ER again. read more

My daughter and I went to ER on Monday 12.19.2022 and we were not treated well at all. First and foremost, we were the only ones in the waiting room at 10 am. We were quickly taken to the back and put into separate rooms. After being discharged I learned that my daughter and I had the same doctor. Doctor Wurst! Yes, that is his name. And he was the WURST! He was rude, inattentive, arrogant, and disrespectful! The nurse was just ok, her name was Jess. She started off really good saying things like she would treat me like she would provide the best care as if I were her mother. I feel bad for her mother because Jess was more concerned with having a con with my son than treating me. And then she switched nurses and didn't even let us know and gave me an even more pitiful nurse named Brock. During all of this time no one shared with me what was happening with my daughter's care. I also called the nurses station 3 times because I had urinated I myself and after the 3rd time and waiting over a hour Jess finally came. My daughter was discharged with only nausea medication and my son was the one who had to make them give her a Covid test. My son took her home and while he was gone they discharged me and provided horrible results, and explanation about my treatment of care. The nurse Brock didn't even notice I still had the IV in my arm and needed to be removed. He quickly found a wheelchair, had me get into it, and wheeled me into a full waiting room of sick people and left me there to wait for my son. Btw Dr. Wurst did come back to say my scan of my side and my chest X-rays were clear; however, I have Covid. When asked what to do he said rest and drink fluids. with an attitude and disrespect in voice and mannerisms. I did tell the nurse Brock if the people working here are not happy then they should quit, if their hungry eat something, if their tired take a nap, but do not take it out on sick patients. read more

This hospital is the worst hospital I have ever been too. Th Dr or head nurse in the ER is a complete jerk. I had unnatural arrhythmias with my heart with a defibrillator and Cardiac Sarcoidosis. I left work due to feeling light headed and dizzy. I went to First health thinking they would take care of my concerns... NOT!! That rude DR. was dismissive and lacked compassion for all of my concerns on top of telling me to resume normal activity. I can see him allowing someone to die on the operating table. He seemed to be judgmental and so arrogant. Someone should call the board on him!! read more

As I write this, my son is in emergency surgery and receiving a blood transfusion...not at First Health. The PA who saw him this morning waved us off even before she had even examined him for postoperative bleeding. She told us to call a doctor to be seen on Monday and that she was NOT calling for a surgical consult. She refused after a second request. She visualized the bleeding and dismissed him with instructions to call for a appointment Monday. I drove him 2 hours away- to a proper hospital - where he is currently receiving evidenced based care. My advise is avoid this hospital. BTW he is fully insured BCBS. read more

We have recently moved to this area from Cary where we have access to Wake Med, Duke and UNC Healthcare facilities. I have had to use the ED facilities at Wake Med Cary on several occasions and have always found them to be excellent. In the short time we've been in Southern Pines, I have had to visit the ED at First Health on 4 occasions. Each time I have been treated with honest care and concern. The staff, from initial contact to discharge have been excellent. They kept me informed, they checked all issues regarding my symptoms and made sure that I knew exactly what was going on. I have zero complaints with this facility. I have worked in the medical field for many years and I am familiar with medical care and how good care is administered. I would have no problem recommending this facility. I understand that many times when a person has a medical issue, they don't always feel that they are heard. I don't think that is an issue with this facility. At least not that I have encountered. read more

Wonderful experience! Visiting from out of state for the birth of our first grandchild. After 30 hours of labor and an unexpected c-section due to the cord wrapped around baby's neck at about 6 cm dilated, our daughter and son in law delivered a healthy baby boy. The medical staff was so attentive, kind, and calming. Everyone explained things so well. Comfortable atmosphere and great staff. Easy parking, free shuttle bus to take you from parking up to the hospital, and fantastic cafeteria!!!!! read more

I can honestly say I have never been so impressed with an ER. We arrived after my 12 year old son was having excruciating pain in his groin area. They immediately took him to the back after vitals. The dr came in shortly and after an ultrasound, he diagnosed him with testicular torsion, a rare but serious condition which required urgent surgery. Their urologist was in a long surgery at the time so he arranged a Med vac flight to UNC Chapel Hill. He didn't waste a second in making sure my son was taken care of. The nurse Tasha was a doll, so kind and keeping his mind off of the pain. She showed great compassion as did the dr who I did not catch his name. Luckily he suffered no lasting damage due to their quick actions and quick diagnosis. I can not thank them enough. read more

I usually have a great experience at first health, but I went today and was diagnosed with pancreatitis and I was hurting very bad! I called my nurse about 7 times and no response. The Dr was right it my door and I told her I called the nurse, she said i know and she has told me every time, I'll be in there in a min.. Why in a nin when I have called 7 times already? It had already been 4 hrs! I don't blame the hospital or the nurse I blame the Dr.. They are supposed to work for you not the other way around.. I am going to make a formal complaint! DR.
