Ron ford came with late wife 2014 he highly recommend so we came
Step By Step L.

Ambiance, service, and food all meet five-star standards. My husband Ron visited this restaurant over 10 -14 yrs ago with his late wife Colleen before passed away. Rachel accommodated their time of dinner then. He had fond memories of this establishment, and I felt compelled to try it. My experience was met with five-star reviews, and I concur that the service, food, and cozy atmosphere created a wonderful experience in Sydney.

the risotto special

My niece and I ate here a Saturday night in mid-April. Such a good meal, I wish I had started out hungrier, but I had been snacking in the afternoon and wasn't as hungry as I'd normally be for dinner. I had the mixed entrée platter for one, which had Salt & Pepper Calamari, Ravioli of Moreton Bay Bug and Prawn, Scallop, Tempura Prawn, and also a special, I think it was an appetizer, a risotto with clams, scallop and shrimp. The risotto was SO good. I loved it. A picture of the risotto is attached. I forgot to take a picture of the mixed entree platter. The mixed entree platter was a good introduction to the different appetizer options... My niece had the spaghettini pasta, with prawns, scallops, mussels, salmon, tomato, spring onion, garlic, olive oil. She was very happy with her meal. I tasted it too, and it was great. We were very sad that we had no room for dessert. A small but very cute setting. Very friendly wait staff. I'd go back in a heartbeat next time I'm in Sydney. One of the two best meals I had during a 10 night trip to Australia.

Crab and shrimp spring rolls

This is a small neighborhood restaurant. We didn't have reservations, but got there before closing and they sat us. Our meal was delicious and staff was so friendly. We started with crab and shrimp spring rolls with a sweet chili sauce. It came with four pieces and I could have eaten a dozen. Then we had grilled octopus with a soy and chili sauce that was perfectly done. Lastly we had spaghetti with muscles scallops and shrimp. Just the right portion. Definitely worth trying if you are in Sydney.

Nice intimate place great for visitors and locals. We came here to celebrate our wedding anniversary was not disappointed. The place is located in a nice quiet neighborhood, not far from a bus stop. Dinner started with warm sourdough bread and butter, delish. Followed by tender, friend calamari and 6 raw oysters. Calamari was not bad but could have used more seasonings. Main was the fried fish of the day (fish and chips) large portion, crispy chips, overall very satisfied. My partner had the whole steamed fish, very well cooked and came with a greek salad. Save room for dessert, we had the chocolate ganache with macadamia nuts and vanilla ice cream. Also had the apple and rhubarb crumble. But were very good on their own but when you combine them it was even better.

Oysters with a special flair

I came here as a single before catching a show at the opera house , and it was incredible. I've never had oysters this amazing. For an American. the term "seafood salad" conjures up an image of mayonnaise,-bathed seafood bits ... check out the picture! The freshness of both the seafood and greens was heavenly - and felt like I was reversing the effects of processed food intake with each and every bite. Service was friendly and conscientious- she thankfully called my attention to the 1000g size of the market bay bug! Highly recommend!

I know that Yelp isn't popular in Australia... yet. But I know a lot of Americans still depend on reviews here for some advice. Here are my 2 cents in the few days we were here in Sydney! We used to come to Australia very often, several time a year so we always look forward to getting some of the food we used to get when we were kids. I was craving some Moreton Bay Bugs and looked around. Here and on TripAdvisor had recommended Fish at the Rocks so we just had to make a reservation. Reservations were easy to make. From the US you can call or just email them. I told them the date, time and how many people and got a table easily a couple weeks before on Australia Day weekend. I recently posted their most up to date menu so this should be pretty trustworthy for now. They have a range of different Australian seafoods including Sydney Rock Oysters, baramundi and of course, the Moreton Bay Bugs. We started off the night with a wonderful glass of unoaked Chardonnay from Tasmania. Fantastic! We tried the Sydney Rock Oysters which were recommended to us by an Uber driver. These were sweet, delicious and small just the way I liked them. We ordered them "natural" and spritzed them with vinegar and lemon juice. We had the ceviche which was good but maybe not the start of the night. Our main dishes however were pretty incredible. We had the stuffed baramundi. Even though it says a "whole" baramundi (which is a pretty large fish) you're only getting a partial filet that's still pretty sizable although not enough to share between two hungry people. I of course had the barbeque Moreton Bay bugs (which are essentially slipper lobsters for those who don't know). They were lightly grilled and not overly seasoned (as they should be). Delicious! Save room for dessert as they have profiteroles and a delicious sour cream panna cotta (not sour at all). They really knocked these out of the park. The service was great, fast and efficient. The food here is wonderful especially if you're looking for seafood. There is no dresscode and so people will come in in shorts and a t-shirt and others dressed in suit and tie. Come as you like and as someone else said, "They're not stuffy."

We came on a Sunday at 1:00P and only had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. Most tables are on the covered outdoor patio with just a few others inside the open air setting. We started off with a raw plate to share, followed by individual entrées. + SALMON CEVICHE (A$28): Thin slices of salmon in a bright zesty citrus soy dressing, with dollops of avocado cream and lime aioli. The salmon was so smooth, buttery and super fresh. I rarely eat ceviche since I usually don't care for citrus flavors, but I enjoyed this since the salmon remained the star of the plate. + DAINTREE BARRAMUNDI FILLET GRILLED (A$38): A perfectly sized fillet was delicate, moist and didn't have any bones! The skin was grilled and crisp like a chip. Normally, I'm not a fan of skin on fish, but this was impeccable. A few cauliflower florets in a flavorful chermoula added a bold punch. I also loved the salted barra croquette, a fritter of potato and barramundi, which was fried to a golden brown and light inside. All of this was on top of a fresh mint yogurt which rounded out this very cohesive dish. Others in my group enjoyed the swordfish fillet and the fish of the day, which was a mahi mahi. Our waitress enticed us with two desserts which all of us shared as a sweet ending. + DARK CHOCOLATE PARFAIT (A$18): A rich chocolate pudding layered with Queen Garnet plums and topped with large chocolate shavings. The pudding was creamy and rich while the ripe plums added sweetness with a hint of tartness. + TOASTED COCONUT & MANGO CRUMBLE (A$16): A delightful refreshing coconut sorbet came with juicy cubes of fresh mango on top. Some granola crumbles provided crunch and substance to an otherwise light dessert. I never would have guessed this is both gluten-free and dairy-free. Our server was excellent and took wonderful care of us by checking back and keeping our waters full. We appreciated her recommendations as well. On top of the great service and delicious food, every dish had a lovely presentation and the pricing was reasonable for the quality of each plate.

Cirrus, names after the cloud like apartment that sits above it. We recommend that you all also promptly book in, it is absolutely incredible and certainly deserves all the accolades it has received. Open for lunch and dinner 7 days a week, you can sit inside or alfresco, enjoying views of our breathtaking harbour. A crisp and stylish place with minimal decor, yet it feels classy with its floor to ceiling glass. Chefs coming to you from the the Bentley, Monopole and Yellow restaurants and Chef Brent Savage has put together an array of seafood delights with incredible flavour combinations and the freshest selection of seafood, sustainably caught. Don't fret, if you have a non seafood eater amongst you, there's vegetarian and meat options as well. The waitress informed us that the dishes at Cirrus were designed to be shared. As a party of 6, she recommended 6 entrees, 6 mains and 4 sides. We ordered one less main than her recommendation and we were extremely full. The meats in particular were very generous servings. We also shared 3 desserts. We began with a few oysters, served with a vinaigrette and these were a beautiful start to our dining experience. We shared a number of starters including their famous Ocean trout with smoked beetroot and pepperberry and toast. The smoked beetroot lay atop the ocean trout mixture, almost like a starfish and the texture was simply divine. The small plate of raw Cobia (like a sashimi) with salted apple, turnip and sesame was quite refreshing. We shared two plates of the roasted King Prawns and Koji Butter. These prawns were were beautifully cooked, and a generous lashing of the butter sauce. We also really enjoyed the Fremantle octopus with kohlrabi and green chilli salsa. The octopus was super fresh, tender and nice crisp outer flavour, topped with ribbons of kohlrabi. Given Cirrus is primarily a seafood restaurant, we could go past having a number of fish for our mains. We enjoyed the the Hiramasa kingfish with grilled cucumber, buttermilk and mint. Nice and soft fish with a pleasant sauce. The cone bay barramundi was also lovely and was presented with some beautiful coils of charred onions and watercress. The roasted swordfish was another winner, served with fennel, buckwheat and bottarga. The Grilled black angus rib eye, 500 g was a big serving, and served with kombu butter, a very good comfort food choice. We ordered it medium and it was perfectly cooked to our request. The barbecued lamb neck may not be something you'd expect at a seafood restaurant but for the meat lovers amongst us, it is a brilliant dish. We shared all the sides; chips and aioli, radicchio salad, an absolutely beautiful plate of grilled asparagus with fresh curd and black olive, as well as a lovely serve of zucchini with hazelnut, yoghurt and turmeric. As for the drinks, Sommelier Nick Hildebrandt has also organised a wide selection of wines, 500 from around the world where you can get advice on the best to pair with your food selection. We chose a bottle of Riesling, which was a lovely pairing. All of this amongst 6 diners and including 3 bottles of wine and bread came to $130 each, which is pretty reasonable given the size of the servings and amount of food. If you'd prefer, the tasting menu is available for $110 each for the whole table, though we preferred to order so we could try a greater range of options. We absolutely loved dining at Cirrus and can't recommend it enough!

Had a wonderful birthday meal here…read more First things first, they do book up so definitely make a reservation. Inside has a more formal ambiance we appreciated, but outside - assuming no cruise ship in the way - is probably the way to go for views, as we requested an inside top floor table with a view and didn't get much of one; turns out not many tables inside with a view. Service was mostly good but oddly slow in a few spots, the wine list was on iPad, and our pomme puree (mashed potatoes) came quite late. Steak was very good. MB7+ tomahawk is a terrific presentation, perfectly cooked to your specification, and described in detail. If you want the very highest quality (MB9) unfortunately thay was not on the menu when we visited, but it was surprisingly difficult find higher than MB7 on the regular menu of any of their competitors so I digress... (keyword: regular) Rest of the food was excellent. Little gem salad and chips are included with your tomahawk, the pomme puree was deliciously creamy if you like creamy mashed potatoes, broccolini hit the spot. And the scallops, while modest in appearance, won high praise. As someone who normally has a hard time going out for steak, given I can almost always make a better one at home, I do have to say that for a special occasion, 6HEAD was on the mark.
