https://www.reddit.com/r/YYC/s/meI1xy8ge8 FAIL: Fish Creek Vet Hospital YYC Story time Friday: call vet to inform them of an issue my dog was having & had previously had. Was told *NOT* to bring him in, they can fill a script in 24 hours or less & will call when it's ready. Saturday: 24 hours has passed, no call. Saturday: 26.5 hours, I call sit on hold, get hung up on, waste almost 20 mins messing around on the phone, find out his meds had been ready & I can pick it up. Drive 25 mins there, pay leave, 25 min drive, get home. Open envelope with meds & see 3 syringes, give dog 1st dose on Saturday at 3pm. Realized the meds they have given was a smaller amount than they had previously given. Read the package & it seemed off (the amount of medication & doses didn't add up) I assumed they were giving him 3 syringes instead of 6 or 7 which they had previously given him (because I trusted them) & I'm thinking great must be a stronger dose & will work faster. Give him the 3 doses over 3 days every 24 hours - saw improvement, about 40-50% better - I know he has to be crated while recovering, I assumed the medication will continue to work while I continue to crate him. Monday 3 pm was his last does. Thursday: I hadn't notice enough improvement since Tuesday which caused some concern because at this stage prior there was significant improvement. (He also had the correct dose & amount of syringes he was suppose to have prior) I call back Thurs. to let them know & get some help. I tell the receptionist everything that's going on & she informed that I should've received 7 syringes, not 3 & that I had paid for all 7 & that the dose was wrong too. Then I get put on hold so the receptionist could go talk to the vet & get a plan. She comes back to let me know that they needed the Envelope that the syringes came in before they will correct their mistakes - for what I assume is to prove I'm not lying!? (Why else would they need it?) & OF COURSE the envelope was already in the garbage & YES, I went to get it out for my dog. Receptionist on the phone then tells me to send her a pic of the envelope OR bring it in & they'll make the remaining syringes when I get there. Before I get off the phone, I ask her specifically is it going to effect my dog that he had three doses, then hasn't had a dose in a couple days? She says that won't be an issue he can have the other 4 doses safely. I get the envelope, drive another 25 minutes to get the rest of the medication. I get there & now have to start this entire conversation with another new person. Give her the envelope & she says hold on I'll go find out what's going on. (Find out what's going on!?!? What?!? I just did all this on the phone. We already figured it out?!?!? hence why I just drove here!) She comes back 2-3 minutes later & asks me why I didn't call earlier. I tell her I thought you intentionally gave him 3. (At this point does that even matter?! I am already there & shouldn't you people have been the ones to check the medication and make sure it was correct in the first place?!?) Then she leaves again comes back about 5 mins later & let me know that she won't be giving him the rest of the medication because it could be harmful to him, he needs an exam now! $$$$ LIKE WHAT TF?!?! (but he didn't 5 days ago or 45 mins ago on the phone!) She says after three doses he should be 100% better. If he's not 100% better than he needs an exam. Then I ask, "If 3 doses was enough to make him 100% better why prescribe 7 to him?" this time or the previous 2 times?! She says "it's just a precaution" that they gave 7. (I'm thinking BS right away - they gave more than double the needed meds and charge you for that?!) that's not only ripping me off, but that's putting my dog in danger too!!) so she's either lying or they've been ripping me off and putting my dog jeopardy for three years. It's either or and both scenarios are bad. She then says the only thing she can do is refund the money for the medication he didn't receive. (Greaaaat (sarcastic af) I can use that for the gas that you all just wasted.) Either way I'm already out the money at this point. She then continues to say that I can bring my dog back in tonight or tmw - this means drive home 25 mins, get the dog - that's supposed to be crated right now according to them - drive back there, another 25 mins, pay for an exam, that he didn't need 5 days ago, (after improvement) then pay for more medication that I already paid for in the first place, then drive another 25 mins home. Like crazy lying lady, nooo! I do not trust any of you now with my dog's safety and health at this point. If this isn't the SLIMMEST SCAM I've ever seen. This Vet is money hungry and do not care about the welfare of your pet. Not only was this all completely preventable if they had done their jobs correctly in the first place, second place or third place but they could've corrected their mistakes today.... see end of events at link above.

Lengthy review ahead: Customers, do your research on pricing before using this vet. I paid almost…read more5x the price for a simple antibiotic prescription at this location. While I have not visited this vet clinic for exams, I have used them for prescription refills as my vet is across town and this location is closer to my work and home. Two weeks ago, my vet (also a VCA clinic) sent a prescription to this location for an antibiotic as my dog had a bone infection and we needed to begin medication ASAP. A vet tech from the Glamorgan Animal Clinic called me to explain that they only carry the antibiotic in tablet form and not the capsules that were prescribed by my veterinarian. I asked if the medication was the same as what was prescribed and the tech reassured me it was the same medication, just in a different form. I agreed to refill the prescription with the tablets that they had in stock as we were needing them urgently. Fast forward to me picking up the prescription, I was surprised at the cost, which was upwards of $230 for 2 weeks of medication. I assumed the antibiotic was just expensive and seeing as my dog needed to begin it right away, I paid and left. The staff were very friendly. Yesterday, I had a recheck by a vet at my regular VCA location and we learned that my dog would require 4 more weeks of medication. I assumed my bill would be more than $500 based off the cost of the medication at Glamorgan Animal Clinic. I was shocked to learn that 4 weeks of medication (in capsule form) would $89 at my clinic, not the $230 I paid at the Glamorgan location. While I recognize that I should have done research on the cost of the medication, I was deeply concerned that staff at the clinic were not upfront about the cost difference between the regular prescription and the medication they provided. I reached out to the clinic manager and she apologized for the confusion. She explained that I was provided with brand name medication, hence the greater cost. I am extremely disappointed that the staff at this location failed to explain that the tablets that they were providing were 5x the cost of the medication my vet had originally prescribed. While the manager was apologetic, I do not feel that my concerns were taken seriously. I am extremely disappointed with this experience and encourage all future customers to do their research before paying the prices at this location.

The landslide of five-star reviews do not lie. The admin team at this clinic is friendly, efficient…read moreand excellent w/ general communications, providing instructions and timely medication orders. My cats and I have traveled extensively, and thus, we have seen our fair share of veterinarians. I must say, Dr. Joe's manner and approach with animals is incomparable to any other vet we have ever visited and he has a wonderful sense of humour and is very personable. My cats were so relaxed that they were actually able to down a few treats during their visit (first time ever!) and they hardly made a peep during their checkups. They usually get riled up when their teeth are being checked and of course, when they have to get shots, but Dr. Joe was able to accomplish these tasks so gently that my cats didn't kick up a fuss at all. Dr. Joe took his time w/ us during the visit and he made sure that all of my questions were answered and that all concerns were addressed. To add, it was obvious to me that Dr. Joe's priority was to provide the best treatment plan for my cats, while also keeping things as economically sound as possible for me, the pet owner. There was absolutely no "hard selling" happening here! Regarding parking, there is reserved parking for the clinic behind the building so if your concerns about this "downtown" clinic is about parking, no worries. Parking is a cinch. To wrap up this review, our visit was so pleasant and refreshing in a sense that I am grateful to know that there are still service providers like this out there.

‼‼‼‼‼I had the most heartbreaking and traumatizing experience in this clinic, and I want to warn…read moreevery pet owner: never bring your animals here, especially small pets like guinea pigs or rabbits. Early in the morning, I saw my guinea pig was very sick and not eating. I panicked and called several clinics to ask if they treat small animals. This clinic told me: "Yes, bring her now, it's an emergency, we can help." Relieved, I rushed over, believing they would save her. I arrived at 9 AM. A man at reception took my pet away, and for the next 2.5 hours I sat with no updates, no communication, no idea what was happening. I kept saying it was urgent, but they just told me to wait. Finally, a doctor spoke to me -- without even bringing my pet -- and started talking about stomach problems, then immediately said the cost would be $3000. When I asked for details or a price list, he left. Later, staff came in with two different papers: * The first showed $216 for a "consultation" plus $188 for cremation. * The second showed $216 for a "consultation" plus costs for treatment and medications. It felt like they were literally giving me a choice: either pay for cremation, or pay for treatment. I even asked: "If you are already suggesting cremation, does that mean treatment won't help? Is it already too late?" They reassured me: "No, it's not too late. Treatment will help. You just need to give the medicines." Of course, since the price difference between cremation and treatment wasn't very big, and because this was our beloved pet, we chose treatment, trusting their words. But every 15-20 minutes the numbers kept changing -- $500, then $600, then suddenly $411. They seemed to invent prices out of thin air. Desperate to save my pet, I agreed to treatment. After more waiting, they gave her back to me in a box. She was lying still, breathing heavily, clearly struggling. I begged them to check her, but they said: "It's fine, go home." Within 15 minutes of leaving the clinic, after giving only the first medications they prescribed, my beloved guinea pig went into seizures and died in my arms. The same clinic that promised me she would be okay, that took hundreds of dollars from me, had let her suffer for hours and then die. When I came back crying, with my child crying beside me, they quickly pulled me into a private room so other clients wouldn't hear. They said: "Sorry, sorry, it's not our fault." Then they demanded $300 for cremation. After arguing, they told me they would refund $80 for the medicines, then changed it to $150, and then told me I would only need to pay $24 more for cremation. Finally, they said: "Actually, don't pay anything for cremation -- but you will not get any refund either." The numbers kept changing every time, as if they were inventing them on the spot. I spent from 9 AM until nearly 1 PM in this nightmare. My pet suffered for 3.5 hours while they played with numbers and gave me false hope. Instead of telling me honestly that they couldn't help, they strung me along, took my money, and handed me back my pet already dying. To make things worse, while I sat in the waiting room devastated, I overheard staff laughing and celebrating someone's birthday. It was clear saving my animal was never their priority. I cannot shake the feeling that they took advantage of me because I am an immigrant and my English is not strong. They saw an opportunity to overcharge me and gave me no clear information, no transparent price list, no real compassion. My guinea pig went into this clinic alive. She left dead. And all they cared about was money. Please, if you love your pets, do not bring them here. This clinic is cruel, unprofessional, and heartless. They gave me false hope, drained me financially, and let my pet die in pain. It is a nightmare I never want another family to experience.

Quite a few years ago, they used to be good; they used to use anesthetic gas through a mask and would even let the pet owner be with their pet during the euthanizing process. Now that they chamber them, they don't allow you to be with your pet during their final moments of consciousness (likely because they don't want you to see how disturbing what they're doing is). Between this questionable policy of theirs and their very high costs (and a few other unsettling interactions with them), I'd say it's best to avoid this place.
