What an experience! Was referred to them by a friend. It was super easy to call, set up a reservation in which they took care of our fishing license. We were aboard the Oakland Anglers II that had on board Chef Mark, who for $25 made us an incredible breakfast burrito and bacon cheeseburger. Stu and his team worked their butts off laying out 40 ring traps then hauling 25, resetting those, hauling in the other 15 and then the 25 again. After looking this place up so I could write a SCATHING REVIEW... I was taken aback of how many reviews it actually had. 18? 18??? How is that even possible? Then I thought it must be because people visit and they say "I had such a relaxing and enjoyable time that they are too busy planning the next trip out that they don't have time to write reviews. I contacted FE because my daughter wanted to go and unfortunately I had never gone myself to know when to go, where, or what to do. This may be some rite of passage as a boy but I never did until now so judge all you want. Idc. I was browsing through instagram and came across Fish Emeryville's post on their catch, I was beyond impressed and decided to book a trip for me and my friend. I saw the trip for "crab combo" the pacific pearl offered for Christmas Eve listed for $160 on Fish Emerville's website and I booked it right away since it was much cheaper than any other companies. The following day I called to confirm if they received my reservation, Jessie, the person who answered the phone informed me the trip was for "Dungeness crab" after confirming with the captain. Realized they made a mistake, they changed the description on the website to "Dungeness crab". And here is where the problem began... I believe a mistake was made while typing the description of the trip, which isn't a big deal. But when I asked Jessie to cancel the trip because the main reason I booked the trip was the price, he sounded irritated by the request. He was talking over me, repeating the fact that the company does not offer cancellation but more than happy to reschedule for a crab combo for $240 plus transaction fees. All that might be true and I understand it's company policy. But in my instance they made a mistake on their listing; and in reality they should honor the mistake that they made by providing the "crab combo trip" to me for $160, which I am not asking them to do. Jessie, come up with more excuses and told me he needs to speak to management instead of fixing such a simple mistake. I fished aboard the Kingfish yesterday, and it was easily the worst experience I've had in 45 years of charter fishing. Captain RJ was rude and degrading toward passengers throughout the trip. When asked about the fish finder, he gave a response that was clearly untrue--I own a boat and understand how these systems work. I understand the fish weren't biting, but that's no excuse for taking the rod out of a client's hands and landing the fish himself. That behavior is unacceptable. With 25 people on board and only three fish caught all day, it was especially frustrating to see him take those moments for his own ego. I've been fishing with Fish Emeryville for many years, and every other captain I've had has been excellent. This experience was completely out of line and needs to be addressed. read more

We did a crabbing charter and came bag with 20 crabs. They were delicious and it was well worth it. From 5am arrival to leaving the parking lot at 4:30pm this was an all day experience in the pacific ocean. Cruising by Alcatraz and going out (and back) under the Golden Gate Bridge were added bonuses. The captain and crew were tremendously helpful and there for anyone anytime they needed something. If I spend $300 just like everybody else on board, shouldn't we get similar sized crab at the end of the trip? Not on the "Lady K" the young deck hand was unfair. the last 4 people on board didn't get ANY jumbos,while the front of the line got huge crab. The captain also ran his pots into another. So he had to double back and set. This cost us at least of hour of fishing. The little dummy even gave me 11 crab because he felt bad. I had reservations based on the mixed reviews, but my experience was totally 5 star on the boat named TigerFish. The skipper & deck hands made it a great experience. This was for the half day halibut and striped bass experience (5:30am-1 pm) I am clueless about fishing so it was nice everything was already set up by the rail. My only job was to watch. Each time we caught a fish the deckhands (John) and the skipper (Al) came to help us netting and freeing the fish from the hook. Between 3 of us we reeled in 6 halibuts but all had to be thrown back due to size limits. The whole boat of 15 patrons must have caught over 30 fishes (halibuts, striped bass, snappers) and at least half were keepers. You can keep fish whole or can ask them to fillet. It's a small boat with tight quarters but enough to seat 15-20, one small toilet for all. Would definitely return to this company and in particular this boat for future fishing trips. Everyone on the boat caught fish. The captain and deckhand (Jack) were great. Both worked really hard the entire day for the guests. We never lacked bait or assistance if needed. They answered questions and took the time to teach my younger daughter some techniques unique to boat fishing in the bay. My group was 12 of the 26 on the boat that day. Personally I wouldn't call myself a successful fisherman (PePe Le Pew get to my fish before I do.) But you wouldn't have known that after a salmon trolling trip with the Pacific Pearl this weekend. Ended up limiting out with 2 King salmon, and one was more than 20 lbs. Shout out to first mate Alex Boulder Shoulders, deck hand Darren Phelps, and captain Andy for making this possible. My experience with salmon fishing on the Pacific Pearl was nothing short of amazing. I was looking forward to this trip so much that I didn't sleep the night before and was running on pure hype and adrenaline (not recommended.) You meet interesting people, the environment is friendly, you'll learn a lot from the deck hands, and your chances of catching a salmon is pretty high. Signing up is quite easy, you head to Fish Emeryville's website and book a spot on what suits you. Be sure to read which listing they have, certain boats do different things: salmon, or lingcod/rockfish, tours, and private charters. Some tips for new people like me. Free parking as of 7/30/22 When the option comes for rentals I highly recommend it; chances are you probably only seen YouTube videos of people doing it and not firsthand. The rods are rigged up for you hassle free, and the tackle is a must unless you have multiple 2.5 lbs sinkers, sinker releases, and the correct leader on hand. Make sure to bring a valid fishing license or day pass. They do pre-orders. The trip I took departed at 5:30 am, check in starts at 4:45 am. It's dark save a few lights. Check in is on the boat itself, just head towards the boating ramp. Bring some snacks and water, you're going to be out for more than 7 hours at sea, need to refuel. Dress in layers, with the outer having some water proofing. Sometimes you're in the rain, sometimes the sun beats down on you. Have fun. I get that there will be some sort of anxiety until you get a bite, but man, once you get to be the guy that says "FISH ON!", all of that washes away. read more

This is an adventure you'll remember for years! We purchased a half-day trip with Fish Emeryville for around 300 bucks including bait and tackle. As two amateur fishers, we were completely supported throughout the day and I never felt like I didn't have someone to help me with my line or my bait. The boat takes off at 8am and we got to see the sun light up the San Francisco skyline with a beautiful golden glow. Meanwhile the sea breeze is hitting your face. I absolutely loved the boat ride and we hadn't even started fishing yet. We ended up right outside the bay bridge. We hooked on our live bait and then waited for the fish to start biting. And bite they did!!! I caught 10 fish on the whole trip. Definitely go with Fish Emeryville! The registration process was super easy. We ended up going out on "Reel Affair 2.0" with Captain John (Tanker City SF) and I really recommend this crew. Reel Affair 2.0 holds 6 passengers so it is a fun and more intimate experience. Everyone on board got to try their hand at Salmon fishing and the deck hands went above and beyond all expectations. We also got our salmons fileted by one of the deckhands and it was really impressive how much meat he got off of the bones. We had a trip planned for this weekend that we booked weeks ago. We knew we were taking a gamble due to COVID. We called today & asked if we would still be able to go, they said yes FOR AN EXTRA $100. They said this was because they have to have fewer people on the boat. Don't go to KingFish!!! 1. [RENT ROD SCAM] I called their landing service before making reservation and was told the rod rental is included in the fee. But when I got there, they said it's not included and I have to pay extra to rent rods (or I go on the trip without rods). 2. [TACKLE PURCHASE SCAM] I purchased the tackle set for the fishing trip. But they refused to give me the tackle set and said they need it for the next trip. It's "BUY tackle" instead of "RENT tackle", and they SHOULD give me what I bought. 3. [LOW QUALITY TACKLE] I thought their trolling halibut tackle set is the professional ones with fish flashes and other components, and that's why I purchased it when making reservation. But it turned out to be just a 16oz sinker with a cheap livebait rig, and they use frozen anchovy on the livebait rig. No wonder they catch less fish than other charters. Also I never saw my "Burlap Sack" which is supposed to be in the tackle set I purchased. 4. [FAKE FISH REPORT] I was on the trip of Mar/26 so I know we only got 2 keeper halibuts, and 2 non-keepers that we released. But the fish report on the website saying we got 3 keepers. This is fake and who knows if their other reports are correct?? 5. [BAD ATTITUDE] When I tried to ask them for the tackle set, they in turn blamed me for tangling up with other anglers and they have to cut/remake my rigs many times. This is not true. They never needed to replace my rigs, let alone the sinkers. When I corrected them, they simply ignored me and refused to talk any more. read more

Went out on an Oakland Anglers Crabbing expedition yesterday in Bodega Bay, Nov. 28th. Left at 6am and got back at 4pm. Boy oh boy, where should I start. First off, the 1960's boat we unfortunately used didn't have a working restroom. Mind you, we paid $140 each to go to this dream crabbing  experience and this is the 1st thing we encountered. Yes, folks you heard me, a 1960's boat with NO working restroom. There's more than 17 of us and how do you suppose we'll do our stuff with no working restroom. Of course, use a bucket! We used a bucket to  relieve ourselves. That is the grossest thing I've ever encounter. The restroom was like 2 feet across and 3 feet long. Men were peeing on the floor. I guess they missed the bucket because the boat was literally tossing. I was literally standing on raw pee when I went to use that dirt restroom. Yikes! Dirty and nasty! Then the Captain took the bucket which is already full and tossed the pee on the water. OMG, imagine the crabs below the water where he tossed the urine? Let your imagine roam. The Captain rolled in the boat without even saying good morning nor say Hi. What a RUDE mother-effer. Hey Cap, "We paid $140 for your rinky dinky boat the least you can do is say Good Morning. Sheeesh, is that too much to ask? Telling you he surely has bad manners. I didn't get his name but he's Asian with tattoos all over his neck, shoulder and hands. We'll I guess he's the only with tattoos employed there. The boat is a 1960's boat which is really tiny inside where 6 people can only sit inside. So the rest had to sit outside where the temperature was probably in the 50's. Poor guys, they were freezing. We had to go from Emeryville to Bodega Bay for our crabbing so it was a long boat ride. It was 1.5 hour ride. Within the hour, I started getting sick as the water was getting choppy which makes the boat toss like hell. It got worse as the day progress. Water was very choppy and when the men started bringing in the pots the boat rocked so hard. That went on for 4.5 hours. I was sick the whole 8 hours, nauseousness and dizziness just set in. I didn't have fun at all. Fishemeryville should have a disclaimer on their website about this as some people like me can't handle the consistent rocking motion. If I knew it was like this, I wouldn't have gone. I didn't know. That was the 1st time I went on a boat for crabbing. I didn't know any better? You need to bring your own food. They don't serve food or drinks. So to each his own. So for those who are planning on crabbing with FishEmeryville.com, ask them first which boat they're using and who the Captain will be. You really don't want to pay $140 and go use a 1960's boat with no working restroom. If they say they will be using the 1960's boat, STAY AWAY AS FAR AS YOU CAN. You will have a miserable time. Trust me! And if you have a motion sickness problem, going on this boat is NOT for you. The whole episode is not a pleasant one for me. With the money I paid, I could have just bought my crabs at Costco. I think I only saved $3 per crab to tell you the truth by going to this expedition. Not worth it because it just zapped the energy out of me. You cannot pay me to go on this boat ride again. Baaaaad experience. Hope this review helps everyone.
