My first visit here with a friend had us both pleased, and with plans of returning. As you walk in you do realize that this is a fish market too, although the outside shouts that as well. I regret not taking any fish home but I did grab a Manhattan clam chowder that was pretty solid. Once passed the cases 2 dining rooms are evident, we sat in the larger that faces a small patio. Surveying our surroundings, we decided that it was clean and bright, not really all that bad. We started with calamari, my friend ordered grilled shrimp, her daughter had the kids spaghetti, and I went for the lobster dinner. We all scarfed down the nicely fried and tender calamari, marinara sauce seemed a little thin but it didn't matter. My friend liked her shrimp which came with a choice of 2 sides. Her daughter loved the pasta, mom tried and agreed. But my lobster stole the show. It was a 1.5 pounder and perfectly steamed and eviscerated for easy consumption. I chose the Spanish rice and grilled veggies, veg was ok, rice was excellent with the addition of diced up carrots and onion. The crustacean itself was as good as it gets, so addictive I considered getting another. The $35 price seemed fair, and the other 2 meals were even more of a bargain. Service was professional and friendly, we all had fun eating here. I think the trick with places like this is sticking to what they do best and sell the most of. I'm curious to see how their scallops are, but might just stick with lobster. BYOB too!

I'm honestly not sure what was more impressive to me; the soups or the sandwiches. I guess I'll start with their namesake, the soup. First time I came here I tried the French onion, since what better 'simple' soup to judge a soup place by, right? Excellent, right out of the gate - utterly bursting with caramelized onion flavor, and just a hint of brandy, I believe? I later came back and tried the Thai coconut and "thanksgiving dinner" soups, with each one seriously cramming a ton of flavor into each bite. Never thought I'd be blown away by soup, of all things, but here we are. The sandwiches are just as good as the soups were, and are priced really fairly for the quality and portion you get. Most of their sandwiches are made on their homemade "pesto bread", which may be the moistest, softest bread I've had in years. If you can't decide, they seem to run specials frequently, where you can get a sandwich & cup of soup. The only 'negative' I can think of is that since sandwiches are made to order, it can take ~10-15 mins to get sandwiches and the like, but this isn't a McDonalds, so I feel like that's expected. Besides, your patience is greatly rewarded. Skip the chain food; there's some really inspired, friendly folks here cranking out some of the best stuff in town. Well worth a visit, imo!

We were left alone in that quiet corner to conduct our business meeting and it was comfortable and quiet. I understand that the real action is on Fridays, or Thursdays and Fridays, in preparation for the weekend, with their take out appetizers, and based on the sushi being so top-notch, I'm sure the other items are excellent too. I can see that there is a great amount of effort and enthusiasm that goes into running this establishment on a daily basis, and I appreciate them being here. The service was excellent, with the staff repeating the day's specials multiple times until we made our choices. I tried the Grilled Atlantic Salmon, and it was tasty--you can never go wrong with salmon! The portion size was generous, and I was quite full just with the salmon. So I made my appointment and met with Danielle & Jerry- the owner was away on vacation, so I did not get to meet him. Anyway we went over the menu and the expected # of guests and set the date and the estimated cost of the luncheon. Day of the luncheon came, tables were beautifully set in a very roomy side room. We BYOB'd it and they had ice waiting for us to chill the wine and bread & butter was on the table. We ordered the following: Appetizers- Calamari, Cold Antipasto and Sausage & Peppers Choice of salad, house or Caesar The Main entrees were choice of 6. Dessert was choice of Cannoli, cheesecake or tiramisu Beverage: Coffee, tea, water, soda Servers were exceptional, smiling, attentive, friendly and although they were very much present, they did not hover, shadow, very professional, considering the occasion- fantastic staff. Food was delicious- everyone commented on the dishes they chose and how much each portion was, huge compliments to the chef and staff. I ordered the shrimp oreganata and I absolutely loved it- I will without a doubt order it again.
