DSS restructured their classes and (at least for my class) reduced the class size to two and made it a 3 day course instead of four. I think the class length and size ended up being perfect! I had a great partner to work with and we clicked really well. Wendy was my instructor. She was a fountain of experience, knowledge, wisdom, and more importantly patience! She allowed us to make and learn from mistakes while making sure we didn't put ourselves in danger. The class was usually indoors for the morning, then out on the water after lunch. We got a ton of time on the tiller with plenty of time to practice our maneuvers. The sailing area is in the San Joaquin river. There is ample room to sail, but you do end up taking or jibbing about every 5 minutes or so. With how physical it is I think we got the perfect amount of time on the water. DSS was a fantastic place to learn. I ended up joining their sailing club and am looking forward to lots of practice before taking my next ASA class with them!

Ruby and Fallon were wonderful, showing a true love of the sea and answering our many questions about landmarks, currents and wildlife as we sailed out on the bay. Not condescending or chatty as his focus was on the rods with 10 people on the boat. Captain was also fishing but not for himself, handed over the rod to a guest who hasn't landed a fish. Appreciate the attempt at a less crowded spot, didn't work out and went back to where the party boats were. I believe we would have gotten our boats limit, but there were a few kids enjoying the experience and were not paying too much attention to their poles, but that's OK. Few missed opportunities, but that's fishing. I know numbers can impact the reputation of the boat without really knowing the context. I will look exclusively to make a trip with Diamond or Lady K. Other boats that I have been on had arrogant deck hands and not so friendly captains.

I wanted to share the experience I had with Diamond Sportfishing and Captain Kyle! WOW! We…read moregathered at the dock super early and although we thought it was early, Captain Kyle was up and at'm ready to fish! He said we were in for an adventure. The great thing about DSF is that they provide all the gear necessary for your catch. We were going out for Tuna as Bluefin are now found in the waters off the west coast, we were all pretty excited to go fishing. All we brought with us was food and drinks, having everything else included was a bonus. In the event we caught anything, they'll cut, clean, gill and give us fillets. The boat ride was awesome, no one got seasick thank goodness, there's ample seating inside and out. It was super foggy in the early morning, but cleared up by the time we started. I've not been on a fishing boat prior to this trip, and I was blown away at how scenic and beautiful the water was out there. The bright sunshine gave the water a super bright blue appearance, it was cool. Captain Kyle and his deckhand got everyone rigged up and ready to fish. The Captain is youthful and took his time answering questions and giving advice. His mixture of humor and knowledge of where the fish were was certainly a bonus because as soon as lines were in the water we heard, " Fish On!" That first Tuna took everyone on board including my son Parker to reel it in ( Posted Picture). What a freaking rush. It was exciting watching as everyone reeled something in on the boat. We laughed, joked and had such a fun day out on the water with friends. On our way back in to harbor the Captain pointed out several whale pods swimming around the boat, it was a trip seeing them jump. We enjoyed our lunch and talked about who caught the biggest tuna. In all honesty, that first one was the biggest in my book. I can't say enough great things about Captain Kyle and his Diamond Sport Fishing. Reservations were easy as charters go out practically daily either 1/2 or full days. The waters off of California are changing, getting warmer, they're seeing Bluefin Tuna and Marlin so who knows, maybe our next trip we'll catch something epic! Overall Impression: A+
