This trip to Queenstown has become a gastronomic delight too. Another brilliant find. A fair sized place but with fresh fish and passionate cooking. My pick is the Fish of the Day with salad and crude hand cut chips. Flavour overload. And if the day is a fine sunny day like mine, it's bliss doubled. Shout out to the friendly staff. And the decor / plating. (Sorry folks : was too hungry to take a full plate pic )

I was not impressed. I tried the seafood green curry. It was lacking in flavor and the portion was small and not filling. Service was spotty.

+ fine (sea)food + extraordinary dishes (muttonbirds) + fair prices - noisy Seafood restaurant in the middle of Queenstown. When I went there, the restaurant was always full of people. With a reason. The food is excellent and it's always a friendly, although noisy, atmosphere. I especially like that they regularly serve muttonbird, which is rather difficult to get. Nice place for a cheerful evening with friends. Don't forget to book a table in advance.

overpriced fish & chips the fish was bland - super bland even the tartar sauce couldn't save it had to ask for ketchup - uh, i mean, tomato sauce the fries were ok and is it just me or is the shape of the fish a little... inappropriate? (i wasn't the only one who noticed!!! even the waitress laughed)

    Best tasting mussels ever!

5 different dishes between 5 girls and you got a happy group that can say 'that was an awesome dinner!' We wanted to try everything on the menu so we all tried each others dishes. We all ended up getting the hake fish, oysters on the half shell, lamb, mussels, and fish n chips. They were all outstanding! Everything tasted fresh. Yes it's a little pricey but having a good meal while you're visiting the beautiful country is well worth the experience and price.

If only the ambiance were better! Chose this spot for our one dinner out in Queenstown, but were immediately disappointed being stuck in the back of the restaurant squeezed between another couple (who awkwardly eavesdropped on our entire meal) and a family with a rowdy kid. Sadly, there isn't really a good table in the place as it doesn't have a view, being stuck on a side street. However, the food was delicious, which partially saved our experience. Ordered the mussels to start with bread & smoked butter. The lemon sole with "crazy water" was to die for, but when we asked for the ingredients, the waiter had no clue how it was made. Staff definitely needs better training. Overall, recommend dining elsewhere.

    Muscles!!

Nice place just off the main drag in Queenstown. Service was excellent. Good wine list. Food was very good. The muscles were, well, only like you can get in New Zealand. Excellent! And fish tacos made grilled on request. I'd go back.

The interior was rustic, spacious, with a warm and comforting ambiance. I wanted to try a little of everything, so ordered the Flame Mixed Grill ($67 NZ), which consisted of famous Ribs, grilled Sirloin Steak, Boerewors Sausage, rotisserie Peri Peri Chicken, along with roasted baby potatoes with sour cream. This took awhile to come out, but it was worth it! Ribs were sticky in a bold, smoky, tangy, savory BBQ sauce. The meat was delightfully tender. Steak was cooked perfectly, succulent, and well seasoned. Sausage was slightly charred and quite juicy, paired wonderfully with flavorful chimichurri. Chicken was not really my favorite, as I found it lacked flavor and was a bit dry. Potatoes were soft and pillowy that worked nicely with the creamy sour cream, but only 3 small ones. Service was solid. The waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was tasty and it was a lovely, hearty feast of a dinner!

It's a rather small menu but delicious, nonetheless. The staff was INCREDIBLY friendly and so helpful. We walked by in the afternoon and put our names down for dinner and they were so accommodating giving us a PRIME spot outside where we can stare at the absolutely spectacular views! There were actually customers that snuck in and sat on the patio right as we were going to be seated and the staff politely told them they had to wait for a table and got both us and them sat. I absolutely appreciate when staff steps up to make sure that everyone is honored. I am a sucker for scallops and would 100% order these again. They were seared perfectly (not overcooked). I wanted a little something more with my 3 scallops and the truffle parmesan fries were EXCELLENT. I am also picky about my fries, I don't like fries that are battered, I prefer them smooth but crispy and these were exactly that! This was almost a year ago and I still think about this meal! We plan on returning to Queenstown and this would definitely be on the list!

Not much to look at but it was a little quieter and away from the ovens back there. Husband had the fettuccine carbonara and I had a margarita pizza. Both were excellent. We started with a Caprese salad which was also excellent. My pizza had homemade crust with the bubbly burnt edges that happens in a woodfire oven. So good. Service was excellent. Parking on street is less than rare so we parked in a lot for roughly $10USD. Great experience.

The restaurant itself is long and narrow, so tables on one side and servers and the kitchen on the other. I ordered bruschetta for my starter & spaghetti bolognese for my main. The bruschetta came out with sliced prosciutto on top which I could have done without. I wished for more tomatoes, onion, and oil. The spaghetti bolognese was flavorful but just ok? Like, I'm not Italian but can make a better version of that at home. Although it's a simple dish, that probably not something you want to hear when you're selling it for $36 NZD. So the overall dining experience was a bit meh. I went to a pizzeria in Te Anau with better flavors. It might be a nice dinner date because the ambiance is lovely, if a bit loud. The service was fine, if a bit on the slow side.

So nice, we ate there twice…read more When researching 'must-try NZ Eats' (yelp, tripadvisor, & lonely planet), we kept getting referred to Winnie's and thought, 'do we really want takeaway pizza versus finding something 'special/fancy' but after perusing the menu, we quickly realized Winnie's was special. Their signature pizzas offered unique flavor combinations, most highlighting a NZ specialty- super hard to decide, we opted for 3 small pizzas to try variety. First visit, we tried: Moroccan Lamb- large chunks of well-marinated fresh NZ Lamb Rump, smothered with fresh zucchini thinly sliced & a creamy minted yoghurt Pescara-large green-lipped mussels, hearty prawns, flaky smoked salmon, and zesty pesto Tandoori Chicken- a work of art pizza, as the creamy curry sauce base is covered with massive amounts of well balanced toppings-a crispy papadum, & pour your own mango chutney (our favorite was the tandoori chicken, because the blend of flavors was unlike any specialty pizza we've ever had- the pop in the zest was irresistible.) Size-wise, three small pizzas was a good amount for the two of us sharing- there were so many toppings packed onto each pie two would have easily been a hearty meal, but after hiking all day (eating lightly) three hit the spot. The topping flavor combinations were what made the pies delicious, the crust was nothing special (I honestly think it may have been frozen pre-made pie crusts-super thin, not enough oven baked char), but overall very delicious, bringing us right back the next day. Day Two in Queenstown, we did attempt to obtain a special/fancy meal, but while trying to dine at one of the local seafood restaurants, we learned most places were either unexpectedly closed due to staffing shortages or required a reservation. So we decided why not go back to Winnie's making 'add-on' tweaks to the pies we liked..so we found ourselves back for round two- ordering a Tandoori Chicken adding lamb chunks..delicious enhancement! If we lived in Queenstown, I know I would run through the entire menu, trying every pizza to discover my favorite pie. Highly recommend for takeaway (grab a pie (or two) grab beer to go, and enjoy on the water)
