Before popping into the hotel I was hoping to get my carb overload done right and re-energize from the depleted energy tanks. After a quick search, I found this place and walked over to it and loved it more when I realized it had a low key atmosphere starting from the walk down into the main dining hall. This place is simple, fast, and straightforward with its menu offerings as they offers pastas, pizzas, etc along with a selection of beers/ciders while offering a hipster vibe After perusing, ordered the linguine with meatballs and the parpadelle with ragu. Ordered a few beers as well which were tasty. This place does get busy during lunch time with what seems to be office workers in the CBD and it brought the atmosphere to be lively. The pastas were out in a flash and they do not skimp on portions or protein here. I feel most places in the states only offers 3 meatballs but they went all out and doubled it and the parpadelle was no joke as well. The food here was solid and while the tomato base was a bit strong, the food itself was delish. The pasta was cooked well and basically both plates were completely gone by the end of the meal. This spot is solid and offers exactly what you are looking for in a low key atmosphere just serving up good quick eats.

The restaurant is not that hard to find just follow the signs from the streets entrance and it's easy. We all needed a hearty meal and what better that pizza and pasta . The meals were a good size and quick to come out. We started with a cheesy garlic bread and a bacon and chorizo pizza to start the ball rolling. They were both good. Next was some pasta. I got fettuccine with amatriciana sauce as I love a good tomato based sauce with a bit of salami and chilli in it to spirit up a little. The pasta was cooke lovely and the sauce was good and satisfied all my cravings. The others had pizza and carbonara. All washed down with a nice bottle of red and it was a very good hearty meal with loads of flavor.

We called ahead to book a table, though when we arrived we realised that it was more of a fast food establishment than a restaurant. The waitress was very friendly, she provided us with the menus and explained how we needed to go up to the counter to place the order. She recommended that we try the Pit Master Pack, since we had not eaten there before. This goes for $59.95, and the two cans of soft drink ended up costing a good $7. The Pit Master Pack consisted of ribs, quite a few buffalo wings, hand pulled pork, coleslaw and fries. It is a good serving for two people. I am not the biggest chicken wing fan, though enjoyed them, apart from there being a bit too much sauce. We chose the cheese covered fries, though they weren't that great, we probably should have gone with the plain fries. The food was nice, though far from mind blowing, which made the pricing hard to justify. We left a bit unsatisfied in terms of how full we were, and how much everything cost, even with the voucher. I personally wouldn't visit here again, it is not for me. I would only recommend this establishment to someone who was really into buffalo wings and ribs.

Seriously, the food here is not cheap. BUT - it is bloody good. When our order arrived my eyes drank in the beauty of my pulled beef roll, while hubby rubbed his hands with glee over his chilli hot dog and loaded fries. And the first bite made the pain of the cost fade away- amazing. Well worth it! In fact despite being hungry I I couldn't eat the whole thing as the servings are generous. When this joint first opened there were lines out the door and long waits, but we were one of only three diners at lunchtime today. The cute checked tablecloths and mustard with ketchup on the tables adds to the US of A atmosphere, the only downside to the location on a nice day is being serenaded by the traffic on the main road. Two thumbs up for the food. My wallet is still hurting but at least I'm so full I won't want dinner tonight.

Unexpectedly in the vacinity, I directed a detour stopping here for a late lunch-slash-early dinner. No regrets. Never again will I slum it through the drive thru of a golden arch for a cheeseburger fix. This was the real deal - there was even coleslaw on this puppy. The bun was toasted to a crisp perfection, the right balance of ketchup to mustard and a meat patty that had some oomph to it. The shop itself reminds me of a fish and chip shop my family would visit growing up. That's to say its basic, no frills. It doesn't need it. Plus the food is without pomp and it all works to create a very distinct charm. Not a subway tile, wooden chair or metal light shade in sight! For less than $20 we got 2 burgers. A great novelty food night. If you're game go the Carolina Pack for $40 - buffalo wings, New York fries and ribs for 2 people.

Carolina Kitchen is a family business owned by an expat from South Carolina, Mike Perry, located on a quiet suburban street in Coopooroo. Already there is a massive following on their Facebook group, with regulars and new comers singing their praises for the Buffalo Wings and BBQ Ribs. Both times I've been for a Saturday lunch, we've booked to save us a table. The place fills up quickly, so if you have more than 2 people, I would definitely suggest booking ahead of time. The BBQ ribs are so juicy and covered in sauce, and the Buffalo wings pack a punch with the original spicy sauce. Dip the wings in the blue cheese dipping sauce to cool your mouth. They have a wide variety of different flavoured Coke, Dr Pepper and Fanta - flavours you don't usually get in Australia. Cherry Dr Pepper tastes like sugary baby Panadol, but I love it! For a serious feed you can either go with one of the Hoagies - a sandwich on a long, Sub roll - or a burger "All The Way". That means everything including onions. There's cheeseburgers, chicken burgers and hamburgers, as well as Hot Dogs. Unfortunately, during my last visit they didn't have any Pie for sale, but quite often they will be selling a Pumpkin, Cherry or Pecan pie by the slice. I did manage to place an order for a Pumpkin pie to take home for Christmas. $30 for a whole sweet pie - traditional American style Pumpkin pie!

My partner got the Depot Burger which had so much on it he couldn't even finish. The next time we went with another couple, and I had the Coney Island hot dog. For whatever reason cheese sauce is hard to come by in Australia, so having this chili and cheese dog was great. The Brooklyn Depot definitely lived up to its "American street food" motto. On a side note, I ordered my French fries with a side of ranch, and the American server asked me where I was from. When I replied that I'm from Michigan, she said only people from the States order ranch with their fries, and we commiserated about our shared love of ranch. Haha. She also didn't charge me for the ranch. Love this place. The only somewhat negative thing I'll say is they don't take reservations, and we had to wait almost a half an hour to get seated. But the food is worth the wait. Wish they had more beers on tap but considering they just opened, hopefully maybe in the future that will change.

Leave all these judgements at the door as you perch upon the bar stools and high tables outside Next Door Kitchen & Bar (next door to Ole on Little Stanley Street) or take a table inside. Instead, focus on what they do well: small plates and cocktails. The cocktail list is not extensive by any means, but what they do do they do well. During our UYE I tried the specially concocted Rudolph Valentino (Scotch, Martini Rosso, Cherry Brandy and Cranberry Bitters) which was interesting. The flavour that hit the front of your palette changed by the time it reached your back palette. I didn't mind it. The Clover Club (which was too sweet for my cocktailing like) and a sip of an 18th Amendment (matusalem rum, red wine, violet liqueur, cherry jam, vanilla and nutmeg) a friend ordered, which was easily my pick of the bunch. As for food, try a little or try a lot. The small plates are made to be shared. For our table of 6 we ordered a few of the chips with truffled parmesan (win), beetroot and blue cheese arancini balls (win) with black garlic aioli and baby chard, and my favourite of them all the slow cooked lamb neck, maple roasted pumpkin, fire roasted onions, hazelnut and Maleny yoghurt. Simple flavours that packed a punch when grouped together. Worth every penny of the $19.50 this particular share plate will set you back. There were a few moments where drinks ordered were forgotten or were slow to be delivered but given the patronage on this Wednesday night it was easily forgiven. One bar tender for the number of people in the venue and anyone could understand the minor delays. We tasted the gangster wings, truffle parmesan fries, beetroot and blue cheese arancini, black garlic aioli, baby chard, and slow cooked lamb neck, maple roasted pumpkin, fire roasted onions, hazelnut, and maleny yogurt. Best thing you ask? LAMB. No question. It was so tender and the roasted pumpkin was an amazing compliment. I could have devoured the entire place but since we are to share the plates- I did just that. I recommend the fries if you want a nice appetizer to share or a comfort food with a twist. The place was quite crowded on a Wednesday and I loved the 1920s theme. This would be a fun place to go on a date or take a friend. It was fun seeing all sorts of groups coming. Will definitely be back! Shout out to Lani for organizing the event! Tip: If you come in before 5:30, you can get slingers and wings for $15.

The name 5 Boroughs is inspired by New York's five boroughs, which are Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island. The food is in a similar price range to Grill'd, though I would say that the burgers are a bit smaller. Both indoor and undercover outdoor seating is available, and as the premises are licensed, this would be a good place to go with mates on a weeknight or on the weekend.
