One of the cleanest small hotels I have ever stayed in. Super nice owner, I will always stay there when I go down to the gulf fishing.

Motel experience from Westwood Inn. Google / Travel search shows Westwood Inn at $110 a night, I…read moredidnt realize this was not the official site when I looked on my phone and called the Motel. We recently booked 2 nights, for 2 rooms as a reservation under my name. They took all my info and credit card. Nothing mentioned about charges etc. Upon arriving, they told us they didnt have our reservations and they were fully booked!! Wow, after driving 2 hours for a weekend get-a-way. After much back and forth, multiple workers coming to the front desk, the kind lady remembered the conversation she had with me for the reservation a week ago. She said she wrote down all my info during the reservation call and then someone else had entered my info. They found my reservations and rooms, under "GROUP", but not my personal name. Whew!!!! Talk about stress upon arrival and 1st time staying in this new Motel. They gave us our door cards and said good to go now. I was not provided a receipt or a total. I asked for the receipt and tucked it away. I went back to the office to alert them of the error and that they didnt charge me enough. They proceeded to tell me that they didnt have us down for 2 nights on each room, but for only 1 night each!! NOW I find out that the rate is $175 per night... for a motel. I never would have booked anything at those rates for a motel. There is a fishing tournament in town and while there are multiple places to stay, everyone is booked. Talk about poorly trained property staff, and an owner that is not on property, with a brand new location. Perhaps there needs to be more training and support? They are very apologetic and helpful in offering to shuffle some things around and get us our saturday nights as well. The lady employee remembered the entire conversation over the phone and confirmed that this is what we originally asked for a week earlier!! The lady made a comment that I was staying pretty cool with all this happening, while the manager kept giving her looks. ;) I did share that I appreciated their efforts and that I wanted to speak with the owner. He calls me and we talk about this experience. He is polite and professional and offers to assist. He does secure us Saturday night for both rooms. Thats the good news. I brought up the pricing showing online and I thought this was his website. He shared that he charges different rates depending on what is going on and weekend vs weekdays. This is his business so thats his option to do so. I can respect that.. After much conversation, the owner says he will graciously discount the room to $140 for each night. I thank you for that!!! When we are checking out Sunday AM, we are asked to confirm a charge for $175 a night... here we go again. The female employee notices this by her co-worker, points it out and they correct this to $140. What they missed was there was supposed to be a credit for Friday night and for 2 rooms as we were charged $175. Keep in mind that I was originally expecting $110 per night per Google/travel/hotels. At this point, I am so perturbed with all the issues, that I didnt even bring it up. Rating the property and rooms for a property that is only 3 months open: Awesome beds and very nice bathroom with lighted mirrors, granite counters, new fridge / freezer, microwave. The remaining furniture is USED, scuffed, dented and that appears to be auction furnishings from other hotels. The craftsmanship and construction of entire property / rooms is shoddy when you inspect. The doors to multiple rooms are not aligned. Luckily we noticed this leaving the room. The door closes, but does not lock. We tried it several times, each time using more force and still the doors pushes open. Went to the office again and they stated to really slam the door. (I cringe doing that as their are other guests.). Yes, slamming the door very hard worked and it locked. Their doors are not weatherized either. Enough gaps to see light and for insects to enter the rooms. One of our rooms, the blinds didnt work and wouldnt extend down to cover the window and their bright outside lighting would keep you up at night. We had to roll up towels in the window to cover the light shining onto bed. There was no housekeeping, only one small cube of soap in the room, and only 2 bath towels in the room. We had to go to the office to get our items needed on 2nd night. Why do we keep having to go to the office for $175 night. I would understand if it were maybe $75 a night value motel. The website claims to have Starbucks coffee??? The coffee in the rooms was not even close. Nice 5 star hotels in Houston can be cheaper that $175 a night and you receive a stress free stay, have all the amenities and value. You can put lipstick on a pig, but its still......

Unfortunately, that all changed during our most recent stay when we discovered BED BUGS in our room. Naturally, I contacted management to report the issue -- not to cause trouble, but to let them know what had happened. What followed was one of the most shocking customer service experiences I've ever had. I spoke with Christine, the manager, who was extremely rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. She barely let me speak, and essentially called me a liar. I wasn't angry -- I was just trying to explain the situation. Instead, I was treated with cruelty and total disregard. What makes this even more painful is that I'm dealing with serious personal circumstances -- we were there for our aunts funeral, my mother is battling cancer, and I have multiple health issue's myself. Why would I ever waste my time making something like this up? I called to protect other guests and give the hotel a chance to fix the issue. Instead, I was insulted, treated absolutely horrible, and ignored. If you value cleanliness, compassion, or even basic human decency, I strongly recommend you avoid this hotel. Bed bugs are a serious issue, and with all my health issues I have a huge job in front of me, and we don't have the money to hire professionals. I have already spent over $300 for this issue, poison, multiple bag seal containers, a steamer, ext. I had to go see my doctor because with my autoimmune disease this has caused an infection on my skin. Instead of this hotel taking responsibility or investigating, management chose to deny, deflect, and degrade. I genuinely hope they make changes, because no guest deserves to be treated this way.

Beyond the wonderful customer service we received, the hotel is new, clean, and has great views of the bay. Pets are welcome for a small fee and it's easy to get to convenient to everything in Port Lavaca. There is a great kids beach nearby with a fishing pier on the bay and several restaurants close by so even if you're just trying to get away for a day or two I highly recommend this location.

It turned out our paycheck wouldn't be deposited until the middle of our stay and he let us come anyway with the trust we would pay when we got it! The lady, Diedra(sp?) is exceptionally nice as well. Neither of them have any problem sitting down with you and talking about the history of this building, all in which is SO interesting to learn. Let it be paranormal, past guests, famous cowboys or just interesting people like WWII soldiers. This place treats you like family. Everyone is so nice, some people staying here seem like regulars so there's always a nice quiet talk going on outside on the porch or in the dining room... last night I actually heard guests out there playing an acoustic guitar and another singing along over the sounds of waves!! Yes. Waves!!! The Bay is right across the street... this would be a WONDERFUL place to bring the kids as there's two large, very nice, play areas within view of the front porch! A big pier next to those and what looks like a boat docking station on the other side. Just beautiful. Quiet. Relaxing!!! The rates are outstanding for what you get here. Sure, you could spend a little extra and get a nice fancy place somewhere else, but here you have serenity and the opportunity to take a walk back in time, unlike any place I have ever been! Our original room, RM101, was very old country style. The kitchen didn't have a stove so Jack loaned me a toaster oven! I was able to cook a fine meal for my boyfriend (chicken parmesan!) using that and a pan from home, I cooked noodles on the hot plate :). I walked around taking pictures when I came across Diedra cleaning rooms, she let me take a look at one that wasn't occupied and it was SO nice!! For an additional $20 a night Jack let us upgrade to that one. It has a full fridge, stove, oven, living room, bigger bed. GET THIS ROOM IF YOU HAVE KIDS. for 3 nights we're spending very little over $300. The ONLY thing I wish was different would be the breakfast. It consists of cereal, toast, coffee, milk and juice. This place would be set even if they just offered some premade biscuits and canned gravy! You can buy biscuits in bulk and big cans of gravy could be heated up in the microwave, so easily done. Just a suggestion :). Even bagels and cream cheese... I don't know. I want FOOD, LOL. This isn't a big enough deal breaker for me to take a star away for though. Love love love this place. I can't seem to express that enough. Highly recommend.
