    I LOVE the FitByTahys meal prep service. Honestly, this service is the perfect fit for my life: I live by myself; I want to be as healthy as possible; I want to get shredded; I want to save time; and I don't need to aggressively optimize my food budget like I did in grad school. Thank goodness. Haha. I've been eating the FitByTahys meals for 8 weeks now. I was using a different meal prep service for 8 weeks before that. I'm consistently losing 1.5-2.0 pounds per week of body fat, I'm lifting more than ever, and I'm slowly-but-surely getting rid of my grad student dad bod. In total, I have lost 27 pounds of body fat in 16 weeks. Yaaass! I was using a similar service in San Francisco (Thistle, also great, but only available in California). So when I moved to Seattle in September, I immediately looked into meal prep services and settled on FitByTahys. I'm so happy I did. I get the 15 meal per week option with 8oz of protein per meal, and I pay by the month to get the biggest possible discount. I don't select meals individually. Instead, I let Tahys mix it up. I choose to get the meals delivered to my apartment for maximum time savings. Here are the main things I love about FitByTahys. 1. I love all the time it saves me. Of course you could do all your meal prep yourself, but in practice, when are you going to do it? Probably on your day off. But time on your day off is the most valuable! Tahys also keeps all the calories and macronutrients consistent across all the meals, so calorie counting is completely effortless, leading to even more time savings. 2. I'm lazy. I love that the FitByTahys meals make it so the easiest laziest thing I can possibly do is to eat perfectly. I basically don't keep food in my house except for the FitByTahys meals, unless I'm cooking with friends. So eating anything else would require going significantly out of my way (e.g., to the grocery store or the pizza shop down the street). But because I'm so lazy, I almost never feel like doing this. So with the FitByTahys meals, my laziness works for me rather than against me. 3. The pricing is reasonable. As far as I'm aware, the FitByTahys meals work out to approximately $15 per meal, or $45 per day. The lowest I've ever got my food budget in grad school was about $25 per day, when I really optimized it, but I would end up consuming more calories than I wanted. I've certainly had to mentally adjust to spending 1.8x as much money for fewer calories than my grad school diet. But it's totally worth it! In the end, I decided that I don't need help eating cheap delicious unhealthy food. It's already easy to do that. I need help getting shredded, and eating healthy food that still tastes good! And after you factor in the cost of your own time, the pricing is even more reasonable. 4. Compared to Thistle, I like the FitByTahys meals better. With Thistle, I would get the craziest hunger cravings at the end of the day. But with FitByTahys, I find that I don't get too hungry. I think this is because the (relatively generous) 8oz of protein in each meal is better at making me feel full for longer. I also believe FitByTahys meals are slightly cleaner and less calorie dense than Thistle, so I'm eating a larger volume of food and coming in at the same overall calorie budget. 5. I love the results I'm getting. I'll try to figure out how to post a progress pic along with this review. Bottom line, FitByTahys is awesome. Do yourself a favor. Sign up. Eat the food. Hit the gym. And get ready to make ridiculous progress on your weight loss goals :D

The fitness instructors, Chris and John were really nice and enthusiastic to help us lose weight and get fit. They asked us what our fitness goals were and we shared what we hoped to gain from the classes. In the 28 days, I went about 60% of the time. I wish they had a gym in North Seattle because the Queen Anne location is a bit of a drive for me, especially during high traffic time (6:15 p.m. class). There is plenty of parking at this facility. I really enjoyed the week day classes inside the gym. It doesn't get so crowded that you stand around. Both John and Chris were really great in helping us have the right posture while doing each work out routine so that we wouldn't insure ourselves. You end up doing a lot of squats and stomach exercises. During the first few classes, I was sore beyond belief. It really helped strengthen my muscles. On the weekends, you meet at a park in Queen Anne. While we worked out, we also played games. This was both entertaining and a great opportunity to become more in shape. The only minor critique I have is that their pricing structure is a bit steep. For those who don't have a great amount of disposable income, $100+ per month (can't remember the exact amount) is really expensive. I understand that gym memberships are expensive but this is on the pricier side. If you do the math, it is more than $1,000 a year for exercise classes. There is class pass offered in the Seattle area for $79, which gives you access to many different gyms around the city. I am aware that they have promotions but it only lasts for a limited amount of time. Aside from their pricing, I'd say that their instructors and facilities are top notch. I thoroughly enjoyed taking work out classes here. Oh yah, I forgot to mention that the recipes that the gym sends out are great. They email healthy recipes to those on their email chain. My friend who attends Ian, tried out a couple of dishes and really liked it.

What it has is a picture of Ian when he was 10. Why would anyone not looking for a middle school yearbook give a $*it about that? You'll have to ask him. It also has a bunch of before-after pictures of people who supposedly got results. Speaking of which... I called 3 times in the past week and each time got a voicemail that tried too hard to appear jovial. No one returned my calls. I don't know whether the people that train there are telepaths, or they actually stopped by in person just to get a brochure, but the cheesy website, fake voicemail greeting and non-existing customer service killed it for me.

He has taken me on a journey of physical growth that has helped me do and accomplish things I never thought were possible. His endless positivity and support, the variety of exercises he brings to each workout, his clear demonstrations and explanations, and his vast knowledge of anatomy and physiology have been a great foundation for our work. His studio has great equipment, including many implements you rarely find in gyms. The shower and clean facilities are a welcome plus. But what really sets him apart is his passion for teaching and his genuine caring about each client's personal needs and goals. It's that combination of his personal qualities that has made me look forward to each and every workout. I want set higher and higher goals for myself, knowing that Mike will tailor a program to support them. If you asked me six months ago if I would be able to flip a gigantic tractor tire 32 times in a workout, do multiple sets of battle ropes, bench press 165 pounds, or...run my first marathon....I would have said you were crazy. Beyond the classes, canceling and pausing your membership is incredibly easy - just email them, and they'll adjust it for the next billing cycle. The front desk staff are also very knowledgeable and friendly, always willing to help and answer any questions.

The reason that I come back every day isn't just for the workout, but for the community that they've built. Nothing is better than lifelong friendships that were forged in the iron paradise while squat cleaning. Anthony and Pat are not only some of the most knowledgeable coaches that I've ever had, but they make every class fun and approachable. She's helped me gain body awareness, proper form, and knowledge of lifting in every session. As someone who hasn't had a particularly specific lifting routine before, I was daunted by the concept and she's been a huge asset in helping me feel more comfortable. My favorite thing about working with Laura is the zero judgement mentality she has about her clients. There have been weeks where we didn't meet, and when I didn't lift - and instead of feeling bad about it, she always has a "let's pick up where we left off" mentality. I know that its a safe space to fail or excel when I work with her and that keeps me so motivated! Other than being a beyond cool and down to earth female trainer, I love my time with Laura because of her deep expertise in body composition, muscle targeting, form queuing, and lifting principles. Since then she is doing all my lifting programming and we've had sessions in person, it has been a game changer! Laura has completely transformed my middle aged body. I had been suffering from lower back pain for years and resigned myself to living in pain despite being very active physically in my younger days. She focused on muscular imbalances and combating degenerative disc issues, and sitting too much in the office, with lifting sessions that rebuilt me and alleviated most of the pain I had been experiencing.
