If I could give this gym a ZERO I would. I have been going to fit female on and off for about 5 years now. Back then it was clean, organized and so much fun to work out. The place was vibrant and staff were so friendly! This new owner has made this gym a nightmare. She is extremely rude, arrogant and only cares about making money and steeling it from people, even in the midst of the damn International PANDEMIC!!! When I signed up she had all these random fees that were completely unnecessary like maintenance fees, and when questioned about anything her answer is "I'm running a business here!" Owner knows nothing about fitness and has the audacity to try to criticize your workout routine in the most rude way, completely unprofessional! The showers are filthy and broken, the sauna and hot tub have been broken for years. They never answer emails. And when I tried to cancel my membership because I do not feel it is safe going to the gym to workout in a mask the owner says to me "Oh well that's no excuse people don't stop going to the gym during flu season" ??? I still have yet to receive a refund for personal training that I paid for an never started because of COVID! Such a waste of an amazing gym for women only! BEWARE. I canceled my membership in APRIL. It's almost August and they just charged my card AGAIN. I even have an email that states "effective 5/6/19 no further payments will be charged." This is insane. I got the 12 month membership that actually is a 13 month membership and requires 30 day notice of cancellation (of course, that was not mentioned when I signed up.) Scam Scam Scam...I do not like to post bad reviews because I understand everyone is trying to make a living. Unfortunately the disaster that is trying to cancel your membership at Fit Female is something else. I also understand not making it easy to cancel so people can rethink it and they have a chance to retain some customers but there is a point where it gets to be too much. I have canceled multiple times via phone and email. Then they say you must come in person to cancel (during covid nonetheless when everything is being done remotely) One lady was a high risk pregnancy and they said you have to come to show us hahahhaah. How sad. All of this and it's still not canceled. We keep receiving text messages from a 3rd party billing company threatening us. They said we have no email and I showed them proof, they said you emailed the gym, not us. Ummm no one advised us of this secret email address. So 8-9 months later still dealing with it and not to mention the lack of professionalism when you call the place. read more

I'd like to start by saying I've been at this gym for a long long time, and enjoyed going there simply because it is a women's gym and not very packed most times. But the equipment is not always completely functional and takes a long time to be repaired, especially considering how much the monthly membership fee is, you'd think things would be fixed quicker. And there's nothing special in this gym to really warrant the exorbitant membership fees, but I suppose you're paying for it just because it's a women's gym. I was okay with all this because I felt the staff were generally friendly, but now I couldn't be paid to go back there after how they handled memberships at the start of the COVID-19 outbreak. When I reached out, they refused partial refunds for the month of March (so essentially paid $53 to go to the gym for a week). And when I tried to freeze my membership for April and May since they were forced to close, they required a $15 fee, when every other gym in New Jersey was freezing memberships for free. I then tried to cancel my membership all together, which charged $100 onto my card, that I had to get disputed. I reached out multiple times without any sort of substantial assistance, even being left on read on the Fit Female Instagram account. For more context I was newly made unemployed so I didn't have the luxury of paying $53/monthly for a service I was never going to receive. I've been going to this gym semi-regularly for years now, but never again. It's really disappointing to see how they handle customers, prioritizing a profit over any decorum. read more

I've joined several women's gyms over the years. Fit female is the largest, airy most comfortable one yet. The salt water pool is a huge plus. Locker rooms, changing areas, showers are all large and roomy. Lucille Roberts is horrendous in comparison. I'm not an expert in classes but the more popular ones were great, again huge floor and plenty of weights and bars etc. Last I checked not going somewhere because of the demographics is called being a racist. Btw It's great to have babysitting but I would prefer no tv or at least tv not blasting. Even when my kid was the only one she would not turn it off. That was my main complaint and part of the reason I ended my membership. But I would join again if that wasn't an issue. read more

I joined in the spring and am really disappointed with the changes they've made. The part of the gym that was the weight room was sold to a Christian bookstore next door and they didn't bother announcing this to members! Now the weight area is super cramped and it seems like there are less machines. There is no room to lift weights (there is a hallway that is a sad excuse). The bikes have been moved to the classroom so that means no use of the classroom when there are classes going on which is unfortunate because some of us like to do our own thing. Will probably join a different gym after my one year contract because I joined for the weight room! read more

This place is terrible. The sauna is always broken. The owner does not care about customers and clients at all. A month after joining, my car was broken into at that lot. When I told the staff, they told me I was the 4th person that MONTH that had their car broken into. The owner should have installed cameras in the lot after the second incident at least. read more

This gym is fraudulent. Be careful of the contract you sign. It's not the cleanest gym. For the price, you'd expect it to be tidy and neat. It just has an aura of being old and outdated, especially the pool. For the price you pay here, you could go to a gym that is a world of a difference. I've been coming to Fit Female for years now since they opened up.. And I love the staff, and classes. However, I will not give them a 5 star only because there is one important concern I do NOT like.. When something breaks it never gets fixed. For example, the sauna door, a few treadmills, and the lights in the weight room. Another thing I don't like showeres are always dirty.. and the hottub is there for nothing it's it's been closed since since the day they opened this gym. I would give this place zero stars. They are thieves and will never admit to it. They always blame previous owner for charges on your card it came to the point I had to change the number of my credit card. They close super early on weekends and in winter any little snow they close the gym. read more

I honestly love this gym. So many classes , equipment. The girl at the front always announces if a man is coming into the gym to fix something. The sauna/ pool is amazing. You never have to wait for any machines because theres plenty of everything. Def recommend read more

I'm very disappointed in how the billing situation is being handled because of the pandemic. I understand this is a business and they need the memberships in order to stay in business. We are all suffering because of the pandemic in one way or another. It is not fair that they are trying to take money from the members when they are trying to cancel their memberships. A lot of us have lost our jobs and cannot afford to attend the gym anymore. We should not have to pay any type of fee in order to cancel. Also, a lot of us do not feel safe working out in a gym anymore due to COVID 19. I did enjoy attending this gym but now I am left with a bad taste in my mouth due to the way things are being handled. I don't believe that I should be charged for a maintenance fee especially when the gym was closed and no one was attending the gym. I know others are facing the same type of issues when they are simply trying to cancel their memberships. We should not be held accountable for any fees. COVID 19 is not in our control and unfortunately the gym industry has suffered but as members we should not be held responsible for fees. read more

I love this gym. It is the best I've been to. I love the fact that is an all mature female gym. There's no pressure. They offer a LOT of great classes that are not packed. I esepcially love the Zumba on Weds nights and the aqua classes in the pool. The staff is friendly and the machines all work. There is an abundance of weights in the weight room. You can work out every part of your body without anyone being starred at. The only thing that sometimes gets annoying are the screaming children wanting their mommies. I wish their room was soundproof. But speaking of sound, I especially love the fact that's there aren't any grunting men. LOL read more

this PLACE IS Fraudulent - the photos do not depict the real gym today- there is NO WIEGHT ROOM as shown. All the photos are years old of a gym that once was. The photo of the weight room does not even exist, this space was sold off to the store next door without members knowing. Then she decided to close the weekend hours at 2pm!!!! I would not even give it one star, the equipment is over 20 years old , broken , dirty -members are allowed to speak on their cell phones while working out, rude!- don't trust the positive reviews -they are friends/same community of owner. This owner will do everything to charge you extra, although she has no right. the old memberships in contract, she has decided to disregard and make up her own rules, under her new terms never agreed to by prior members. She in my opinion is here only to make $ due to this being a women's only gym, catering to her religious group that can not work out with men. Owner will not let you cancel until you pay her fees you never agreed to- Call your credit card, tell them to hold any and all future payments, get everything in writing to when you cancel- this way she has NO legal rights. The gym is pretty decent, but I am giving it one star, but it has been a nightmare to cancel my membership. I was moving, so I went in person to cancel and they said I had to do it online. So I emailed the company, and asked for a confirmation on my cancellation. I never heard from them. I called three times and asked to speak with the manager and was told that she would call me back. The manager never did. I gave up calling and had to dispute the charge on my credit card. I really don't appreciate this treatment, considering they are not a busy gym by any means, and the amount of times I tried calling them. read more

Today I went to Zumba and my 5 year old daughter I put in childcare. 25 minutes into my class the babysitter walks into the room. I thought she needed to speak to me about my daughter. No she was getting a mop and a vacuum. I ran out of class and found my daughter in the child care room completely alone and unattended. This is inexcusable and negligent. I'm afraid for the other mothers and children. Go forbid a child wonders into the pool room and drowns accidentally. read more

BEWARE OF THIS GYM. Do not sign any contracts. They are a bunch of crooks. I joined when they were doing a summer offer of 30$ a month and it seemed like a good idea at the time. Fast forward to march of this year when I decided to cancel... (the hours suck especially on weekends). I showed up to the front desk and was advised to "send an email to fitfemale@aol.com stating I would like to cancel my account" because apparently that's the only way for you to cancel the membership which is absolutely ridiculous if we're being honest. Anyway, I did as I was told, I even asked for a confirmation at the bottom of the email so I could know that they received my request to cancel. Did they reply to it?? OF COURSE NOT! and now it is JUNE and I AM STILL BEING CHARGED. Management at this gym takes incompetence and absurdity to an entirely new level. These people only care about continually and blatantly ripping you off. It has been an entire 3 months since I've requested to cancel. The contract states it takes 30-60 days to cancel upon receiving request to end the membership but it HAS BEEN 3 MONTHS. I will have no choice but to pursue legal action. This gym is so great that i travel from staten island to NJ just to work out here. It is an all female gym, equipped with a pool, classes, and state of the art equipment. I could only hope that this gym opens up another location in NYC. Absolutely love working out w my mom and sisters here! read more

I was previously a member of Lucille Roberts and this gym is SO much better, has almost every workout machine/weights/space you can think of, is more spacious, clean locker room and showers, offers more classes, and has good parking. The salt water pool and sauna are definitely a plus. The classes they offer are great, the staff was super helpful, and the instructors are all female and super motivating too. Also if you have kids, this gym offers free daycare for 2 children included with your membership. I definitely plan on being a member of this gym for a while, but literally the only downside for me is the gym hours (weekdays are OKAY since it closes at a more reasonable time, 10pm, but REALLY?). The gym is only open until 4pm and 3pm on the weekends and closes at 8pm on a Friday. If you work long hours, that pretty much means you won't be going to the gym that day. read more
