Jessica, It was a pleasure to work with you. I got to ride yesterday down Old Whitmore Lake Rd., a pretty good little ride (about 14 mi.) with some hills. I cannot say enough about how comfortable the bike felt!! The first thing I noticed was how small the bike felt now. But as I began the ride, I felt so much more in control than before. The smaller handlebar is brilliant! I can keep my hands on the boots without any discomfort, something I could not do before (I always felt like I was reaching for that position). Also, transitioning from the boots to the bottom position on the bar was smooth and effortless. Plus, putting my hands down in that position actually felt like another comfortable place to put them. Before, I really never used that position, as it was too far down and just didn't feel right. The pedaling felt great. I put the inserts into my Keen's and they work very well. I think because the bike is now set up to fit me, I have more power in my pedaling. I felt as if I could have ridden for many more miles than we did! The control of the bike is huge. Also, the saddle is very good. I love the added padding, but more importantly for me, it feels as though my butt is much more supported. Since it's so much more comfortable, I was able to pedal hard and consistently, without feeling like I was just going in bursts of power. Before, it was as if I was just on the bike and dealing with it's characteristics as they came up. Now, I fell like I get on the bike and it's MINE. It's just awesome! Jess, the owner of FITMI! knows what she is doing and makes me believe in the art of bicycle fitting (as long as she is doing it!) I'm a year-round bicycle commuter who also has bike-shop experience. Yet, I never believed in being fit because the approach other fitters have taken with me seemed to be for a more "aero" road specific approach, which isn't always the goal of my riding. Not to mention, I don't ride race-specific bicycles and my bikes often only have one 'speed' :) Jess didn't judge that my bike wasn't Carbon, that I didn't wear a full kit when I came in to be fit, and that my bike was even dripping melting snow! She truly is approaching you as a person and takes into account your personality as a rider (but don't get me wrong, I know she has immense knowledge for all you roadies!) She provided the correct, minor to major adjustments that have made my rides a lot more comfortable and I've found the adjustments have correctly proportioned my effort to where it needs to be! I'm no longer fighting the bicycle and with less effort find myself going faster with fluid, smooth pedal strokes that I didn't think my awkward shaped legs could pull off. I ride 15-20 miles daily and I'm no longer crying about overworked IT bands and bum knees! She even tweaked my cleat placement when I snagged a new pair of shoes and although I pride myself on knowing what's what on all things bike, every little adjustment she has made has made every commute that much better! Several weeks ago, I had the opportunity to go to FitMi! and get my bike I will be using for The Battle of Waterloo Triathlon this coming July fitted for me. Jess, the owner, was absolutely FANTASTIC! Incredibly knowledgeable, completely professional, and a genuinely sweet person to talk to. Not only was she quick and efficient, but she had some amazing 1920's music playing in the shop. She took her time analyzing every aspect of not only the bike, but also myself on and off the bike with the use of pictures and slow motion video. She made some awesome recommendations that have made my training on the bike incredibly perfect. On top of all of that, I needed an extra piece for the bike so I could hook it up to my indoor trainer which she kindly gave from her own personal collection. I have been riding road bikes for over 25 years. I have long legs and a short torso which makes it impossible for me to ride a stock bike with comfort no matter how much one fiddles with stems and bar heights (I ride a 61 size bike with a 54 cm top tube). That means I need custom frames. I first used Jessica 3 years ago to try and make a poorly fit custom bike work. She did a great job but could only do so much. This year I decided it was time to get a custom frame that fit correctly. I was so impressed with Jessica's knowledge and ability that I went back to her. Jess is the definition of a professional bike fitter. She has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to cycling, cycling biomechanics, and how different body types and riding styles ride the way they do, and she is very meticulous in getting you down to the right angle that is right for you. This bike fitting was amazing! I ride my bike a lot and always had various aches and pains so I decided to get a proper fitting. After analyzing my riding stance, Jessica made adjustments to my bike and gave me the perfect ride. My rides prior to the fitting always felt kind of heavy but, after the fitting, everything feels so much lighter and I haven't had an ache since. An added bonus that I didn't expect was that I'm now about 3 mph faster on my bike and I'm using the same effort as before. I was impressed by Jessica's passion and knowledge of bikes as well as her way of explaining everything to me. I should have done this a long time ago. Wow, right!?!? First of all Jess is a Rock Star! I met Jess through our local bike shop Eric's in Lansing just as she was packing up. She had a minute to help as the sales staff was busy. Well that short meeting turned into a new ride for me and a trip to her studio in Ann Arbor. I went with the "Revolution" fit I spent a full morning with her and It has made such a drastic difference in my riding experience, comfort and efficiency. I can't recommend her enough. I was experiencing knee pain while riding that would kick in pretty reliably around 30 miles, and get pretty severe as I went farther. I commute, do weekend rides around 30-60 miles, and occasionally tour. Jess measured my dimensions, and did some voodoo with my cleat positions and put wedges in my shoes to make everything much more comfortable, including compensating for one of my legs being slightly longer than the other (which was news to me). She suggested some exercises to strengthen some muscles to help alleviate my pain as well. Since our session, I've had no more knee pain. It feels great to push miles without worrying. If you ride a bike and care about trivial things like not injuring yourself or having your ankles, arms, back, neck, legs, feet, areas that you sit on, other areas of even more importance hurt like heck, you need to go to FitMi -- worth every penny. I love bicycle-touring but I struggled with knee issues for years on bikes that didn't fit me. Jess worked with me and my budget to custom build a beautiful little Gunner. Jess is the best at bike fitting. About two hours later every little inch of you, from shoe angle and cleat position to bar height, angle and seat distance... no stone left unturned, When you are done all your energy is being transferred to your pedals and you're comfortable and feeling stronger.
