After 4 other shops, I ended up far from my home to try out a Specialized Sirrus X 3. It was the right bike for me. If you know what you want, this is the place. If you aren't sure what you want, this is the place. They had it in stock. I was unsure of a medium vs. large frame - of which they had both in stock! This is where Lance got involved. As a trained fit specialist, he confirmed my preference for a medium made sense. Great bike. Great service. But then- 100 miles later, I had an issue due to a manufacturing defect. Long story short, Lance expedited the warranty process and helped me out with a rapid repair. I'm not here to review the bike but I want to add that the issue I experienced is rare and both the manufacturer and the retailer did what needed to be done to give me full confidence moving forward. I tried a lot of bikes. This is a quality brand and Town and Country has a full selection in stock. They are located in a nice strip of town within walking distance of an array of other retail shops. A nice area to visit.

I would not recommend getting even a simple bike fit here due to safety concerns…read more I paid $100 for a bike fit and trusted the technician to properly adjust my bike. During the fit, my saddle height was changed and the seatpost clamp was tightened using only a hex tool. My carbon seatpost clearly states a maximum torque of 5 Nm, but no torque wrench was used. I assumed everything had been done correctly and didn't think to double-check their work. Shortly after leaving, I was riding at about 20 mph and hit a very small bump in the road. My seatpost suddenly dropped under my weight, which completely threw me off balance and caused me to crash into the nearby grass. This could have easily resulted in a serious crash. Because the seatpost slipped, the carbon seatpost was also scraped when it slid down into the frame under my weight, which is concerning for a carbon component. To make matters worse, after spending $100 on the fit, I left without any documentation of the final measurements or where my saddle height and positions were set. I essentially walked away without knowing what my final setup was supposed to be. Overall, the experience was very disappointing. I trusted the shop to properly adjust my bike and ensure it was safe to ride. Instead, I left with a slipping seatpost, damage to my carbon seatpost, and no record of the fit measurements. For something as important as bike setup and rider safety, I expected much better.

So, I wanted to get it tuned up before I tried riding it for real. I took it to Cycletherapy and they told me it would be ready in a little over 2 weeks. I also fully intended for them to tell me it would be expensive to fix. Well, it was ready in just under ONE week. And it cost LESS than $50! The people were also really nice and helpful, both taking it out of my car when I brought it in and putting it back in when I picked it up. I only rode it for a minute around my condo's parking lot (there are major potholes and it doesn't feel safe to ride there yet), but it felt much more steady. I really felt like I got good service from them, and they seemed very helpful and knowledgeable.

He was also extremely nice to both be and my child (who was fidgety and extra energetic at times), and was determined to fix the issue. I had to bring it back again (the quick release with my bike + trailer hitch was odd) and he solved the problem immediately! He even took it for a test ride with my kid in the trailer to make sure it worked As a single parent, I am so happy to have a shop like this that is transparent and solution oriented. I first did not discover this store, I visited an "official" Trek store in Commerce but the…read moresalesman talked down at me the entire time so even though I got to test ride the bike I wanted there, I didn't bother to purchase even though they had my bike in stock and assembled. Instead, I did my research on locally owned/operated bike shops and discovered South Lyon Cycle nearby who sold Trek and seemed to be family-run with great reviews. I ordered my bike online on a Saturday through Trek, had it shipped to South Lyon Cycle for free delivery/assembly. They received the bike on the following Tuesday, called me once they had it and said it would be assembled and ready to take home within the hour! I couldn't believe how quick a turnaround it all was! The employee took his time telling me the most important differences (i.e. special tire gauge/adapter) which I appreciated knowing about ahead of time instead of discovering it whenever I stumble upon it. The entire time, I felt valued and taken care of without being treated like I didn't know anything about biking. He showed me the layout of the store for other accessories and then left me alone to shop without any pressure to buy what I didn't want/need. I will definitely be returning for my future bike needs!

First the good, and the reason for the one star (not that I could give less anyway)... the sales…read morestaff was very friendly. Kudos for that. Now for the bad, and let me preface this by mentioning that I spent a good portion of my adulthood racing and working in various bike shops. And I was the service manager in one, so I have a LOT of bike mechanic experience. If I were the service manager of this shop, I'd have fired the person who built my bike. Today I bought a particular TREK MTB at this store, because unfortunately my usual store didn't have one and couldn't get one. First problem: you are NOT supposed to use grease on a carbon seatpost with a carbon frame. It's LITERALLY PRINTED on the back of the seatpost, though it's something any good mechanic should know anyway. Sure enough they assembled it with tons of grease, and within just a 1 mile ride, the post slid down a good inch. So I degreased the post, and put 'carbon paste' on it to keep it from happening again. Second problem (picture attached): they mounted the remote shock lockout outboard of the brake lever, which means there's nowhere for your thumb to go when you wrap your hand around the grip. A simple look at the TREK website shows it's installed wrong. And switching them around after requires removing the grip. Sometimes that can be done without destroying the grip, sometimes it can't. So I've already had to buy new grips to fix their mistake. There were several other minor things that never would have been acceptable at my shop, but this is long enough already. I guess if you're looking for a very basic shop, or if you have your own mechanical skills, they're an acceptable choice. Otherwise, I'd highly suggest you look elsewhere. Oh, also, to make it even more insulting, they try to sell you a $150 tune-up plan, which just means you pay up front to have them continue to provide you with subpar repair service. Disappointed mostly because working in a bike shop was always more than just a blow-off job to me. Sad to see that's not the case here. I won't be back.
