My contract is up in October but we canceled in person in August as we were moving to where there is no Fitness connection. The guy at the gym said they would send us a reminder that it is time to cancel. (Lie) I didn't trust that so I emailed the gym with my cancellation request and my reason to cancel. No response. (Rude) At any rate, I called today to confirm cancellation is complete. Cust service says my 30 days starts today so they'll be charging me again.. She said that there's no record we went into the gym to cancel and since they didn't answer my email cancellation, they don't have to honor it. Terrible customer service. It's a grimy old gym in the first place without enough fans so there is no good reason to join. Skip it and head over to Planet Fitness to deal with an honest business and nice gym. read more

My favorite college gym -- Best-equipped with every piece of machinery you could need in a gym facility. This location is one of the few with a two-story mezzanine, CrossFit room, wall-ball room, personal trainers and saunas. As most gyms are, this location is ideal during business hours and gets progressively busier until between 5-8pm. However, I never felt I was waiting more than 3 minutes for a piece of equipment. Though this facility is incredibly affordable (which attracts a large group of people), the team keeps their cleanliness and machine maintenance up to par. My only complaint is that this location does not have a pool, which i find is a great bonus to many other locations. All in all -- helpful staff & healthy atmosphere. read more

A town like Greenville should have at least one gym with steam and sauna, and preferably a hot tub too! Save yourself time and aggravation and do not, I repeat, do NOT sign up for Fitness Connection. I was naive and ignored previous reviews thinking others didn't cancel in time and were writing their reviews in anger. I thought "This wouldn't happen to us, we're on top of things!" I was wrong. We told them 30 days before we were going to move that we wanted to cancel. Fast forward and it's been 9 months of hell trying to get them to stop auto charging our card, we had to call our bank and put a stop payment in place, but we couldn't recover 9 months of payments. If you're absolutely desperate, pay in cash only. Corporate is a nightmare to deal with, the local employees are non-responsive and incredibly unhelpful and rude. Super disappointed in how they handle business. There are other options in Greenville, and I would definitely seek those out instead of signing up for this gym and the aggravation that comes along with it. read more

Also, having a MVP membership status change without notice, at one point you could bring anyone at any time of any age, without notice having an embarrassing moment bringing your kid to the gym to workout with you for them to tell you your kid need a membership to workout with you cause they not 18 years of age. Then to top that, you drop dow from a MVP membership to a basic membership they automatically e-sign for you from where they have you e-signature on file from previous years, and in order to to cancel you have to pay $49. I came across some of the recent low ratings for this gym and couldn't believe what I was reading. I've had nothing but good experiences since I joined this past January as a complete newbie. The staff is friendly, helpful and very inclusive. I have never once felt I don't belong here even though I'm far from a typical gym member at 63 years old. It's a joy to see so many people of all sizes, ages, colors and heritages. While many gyms advertise "no judgment", FC actually practices it here in Greenville. The facility is kept clean and the numerous sanitizing stations are usually well-stocked. When a machine is down for service it only takes 1-2 weeks for it to be up and running again. Although I've only just started working with one of FC's awesome personal trainers, I've observed many sessions while working out on my own over the past year and can say the trainers here are truly focused on helping their clients meet goals while remaining reasonable in their expectations. I still can't believe that with all the amenities, great staff and diverse clientele, this gym membership only costs me $10 a month (and is free for my husband, who is a Silver Sneakers member!). I visited and toured most of the gyms in the area before joining, and FC beat them all for the reasons I mentioned above. Thanks to FC I'm getting stronger and more fit every day. read more

Not liking the manager, so I've been going to this gym for a while but I mostly go to the "women's only room". The reason for me going in there is because I'm ex military and I have PTSD so big crowds make me uncomfortable. Past two weeks I've had my boyfriend's twin brother go with me to help me feel comfortable going to explore the rest of the gym to get full body workouts and not be limited to what is offered in the "women's only room". Today me and my boyfriend's brother walked in and the manager pulled him aside and accused him of training me which we both know that's not allowed, he even told her he wasn't training me. She told him, that she would cancel his membership because she's assuming he's training me. I would bring my emotional support pet but she's having medical issues. Me and my boyfriend have different work schedules and I need someone with me to feel comfortable. I feel like she disrespected me and him by assuming. read more

This company will extort you after cancellation. I have writtwn verification that a cancellation was processed. In the cancellation notice, it stated there is a 30 day cancellation notice. What it does not state is the remaining amount of how much owed. At no point will they ever send you a written or email notice that your account is past due. Thanks is no online portal to check the status of your account either. Instead this company just keeps charging you without any written notice that your account is past due. Four months later you will be extorted by a debt collection agency for four months of a gym membership $187 which could have been easily solved with a notice that your account was overdue. Any company that never can or will provide you with a statement of your bill, agreement, or charges has the power to say you owe them anything. I will never recommend a business that is really a front for strong-arm extortionist. read more

I cancelled a personal trainer contract in August 2019. I was told I had to pay the contract out, which is understandable. The contract was paid in full April 2020. 7 months later, the monthly PT fee of $120 began coming out of my account again. There was no call to offer PT, no email stating i was still in contract. Complete fraud! Customer service stated after a PT contract is over, clients are AUTOMATICALLY billed month to month, even though I ended the contract and PAID IT IN FULL! Do NOT Join this Gym!!!! #1 reason - the company as a whole has an F rating with the BBB. The biggest complaint with the BBB which happens to be my complaint, is their billing/cancellation practices. When I asked about cancellation in person, the front desk person told me I could cancel online. I did this and received an automated email reply stating that my cancellation notice was received and would be applied after the 30 day period. I am now almost 3 months past that 30 day period and they are still drafting my account. I have contacted the people at the Greenville location and the headquarters in Houston and still have not gotten this resolved. I have also put a fraudulent draft alert on my bank account. read more

If I could give this establishment zero stars I would. Like most other reviews here, Fitness Connection will continue to draft from your account even after you've cancelled online. They have now taken $30 worth from me and I havn't been to the gym in 4 months. Calling their HQ is no help either because they'll ask you to send the cancellation email to a different email which they will never read. The actual gym in Greenville I have no issue with. Fine gym for $10 a month. But don't think you'll be able to get out of this easily. Sketchy business practices that continue to draft from your account in hopes you won't check your statement. When you decide to cancel, keep the confirmation email and CANCEL YOUR CARD after the 30 days notice. Get a new one, odds are it will be less of a hassle then dealing with them. Sketchy business. My experience has been positive. I find the staff attentive and easy to approach but you have to speak up. I am happy to see the changes they have made and look forward to the new renovations. I have had great results working with trainers. I've been a member for years. I will add that every gym is different and finding one that is right for you doesn't mean that other gyms are horrible. Sometimes interactions are based on your approach and if you have an issue it's important to voice that through proper channels. Trainers constantly are changing there and do not work with your schedule but will continue to charge you for private training even when they don't show for their assigned appointments or can't work with your schedule. Seems like an affordable place to work out however wait until you want to cancel. They will continuously charge you monthly after you have cancelled your membership. Then when you try and call on what to do they will tell you to email Jessica. However, she will not reply to the email and they will still be taking money out of your account monthly. The front desk and manangers of this location are not helpful at all and rude. Finally got in contact with corporate and hopefully getting my money refunded back after 3 months of dealing with this. I love being able to workout here when I'm in G'Ville. They have a full court basketball court which is a major plus for me. The weight rooms and cardio areas are well stocked and I never found myself looking for a machine that they didn't have. I did wish that they had some sort of vegan protein drink for sale with their Muscle Milks, etc. The only negative part of my experience at this Fitness Connection is that it costs me $10 to go workout every time I go. I feel that the price is a little steep but I'm still thankful to be able to use this place when I'm in town. read more

It is horrible to cancel your membership. They want you to do it on line. Which was a nightmare. I still don't know if my membership is cancelled. They keep adding fees, and I keep paying them to avoid aggravation, but no more. I'm done. I like the gym, and the staff, but ending the membership is awful. I had a terrible experience several months ago, being a member for no less than 10 year, when it was Gold's Gym. My wallet was stolen from my locked locker and the manager mistreated and humiliated my wife when she reported the incident. I confronted the manager and found out that such incident had been going on for quite some time, He offered me a bribe, once he realized he had made a mistake. DO NOT GO TO FITNESS CONNECTION! They have been the biggest pain in my ass for the past year. I joined Fitness Connection last year so that I could work out and get in better shape. A couple of months after joining, I decided that I had the money to work with a personal trainer for a little while - just a couple of months - and then use that training that I had to work by myself after when I got back from Fort Leonard Wood that summer. When I got back, I tried to cancel my personal training and was told multiple times by the staff there that I was not allowed to cancel it because I was under a year long contract. I explained to them that I was financially unable to do so because I recently acquired a new car due to old one breaking down beyond a reasonable point of repair. They refused to let me out of the contract, so I lived on rice and beans for a few months while trying to figure out what to do. Finally, my debit card number was stolen, so when I got a new one, I decided not to give Fitness Connection the new number. I quit going there for months and kept getting call after call pestering me to pay for a service that I wasn't even using. Finally, they told me that they would take further collective action if I did not pay, so I spoke with the staff once again and the person at the front desk gave me a number to call and a piece of paper with instructions on how to cancel my membership. I called the number and paid off the membership fee that had accumulated and then followed the steps online to cancel my membership - like I was originally told I could not do. I received an email the same day saying that I could not cancel my membership until I paid the $480 I owed on the personal training that I had not received. I called and spoke with a representative, who would not, or could not do anything about the situation. So in short, because I was not aware of the contract that I was getting myself into, now I have to pull out money that doesn't exist to pay for something that I have not gotten, and now have no interest in getting. I would love for someone to explain to me why a company needs a contract for people to work out. It's not like buying a car or a house where you physically have something that you need to pay off because it doesn't fully belong to you yet. Its WORKING OUT! EXERCISE! And why should I have to pay hundreds of dollars for a service that I don't use now and haven't for months?! The only good reason that I can think of is that Fitness Connection is not a gym that actually cares about its members. Members there are just customers - another way to make money. Fitness Connection is so money hungry and greedy that they are trying to squeeze every last penny out of someone who doesn't have any pennies to spare. I have rent to pay, car insurance, phone bill, college loans, health, vision, dental insurance - not to mention food, water, gas, clothes, shoes - I work a maintenance job, so I'm constantly having to buy new boots or pants when the others get worn out. Every time I have drill with the National Guard, I have to drive hundreds of miles to get to the armory. That equates to quite a bit of money every month. But Fitness connection just sees me as a source of money - not a person. I am a number to them. Businesses like this should not be in operation. They are filthy and do not care one bit about the people who go there just to better their own health. Fitness connection has been one of the most financially taxing and stressful parts of my life for the past year. If you know what is good for you, STAY AWAY from this sloppy, money hungry business. read more

This is not the gym you're looking for. Find another gym. Don't let the price fool you, this place survives on predatory business practices. The will try to draw you in to a more expensive membership plan with useless benefits, that other gyms include at a basic level. They claim it will save you money, but that's only true if you stay with the gym less than a few months. What if you want to switch to the other membership plan? You have to cancel your existing plan and reenrole with the $120+ signup fee. The gym is filthy. The weights are disorganized. The staff is not helpful. The manager is worst of the bunch. His staff lied to me and the response is best summed up with, "too bad." The personal trainers dont spend time teaching classes, assisting members, or even keeping the gyms maintained. They are salespeople. They are hired to convince you to give them more money. Need a lock for the locker? They'll sell you one. Want to go to a class? That's extra. Want a personal training session? You have to sign up for two a week every week, and it'll cost and arm and a leg. This is not a gym. It's a leach. Find another gym. read more

A few years back my wife who loved working out at Fitness Connection gave my son and I a FC gift membership. I only used it a handful of times total. My wife kept the membership for me to use over the years primarily to use the pool facilities during the summer months. Our family did on occasion meet at the pool and swim together. This past season June 2017 she was insulted by the manager Rick Anderson who told our memberships were not of any significance monetarily, not enough money paid to warrant use the pool at the Greenville, NC FC. My wife was told she was dishonest and stealing from FC because our membership was $9.95 per month. My wife was asked to cancel my membership in June 2017 by manager Rick Anderson - she refused to cancel our memberships at that time - because she wanted our family to have pool time together. Manager Rick stated that "we did not have a legal leg to stand on" He informed her that the pool was NOT part of our long standing $9.95 per month membership. I was told when my wife signed up (personally) that the pool WAS INCLUDED. I was told again (personally) when she signed me up that the pool was included. My wife has attempted to cancel my membership before this year 2017 - (because I rarely use the membership) and was offered a freeze, at a discounted price which she could and did unfreeze with a simple call into ABC financial who manages the gyms memberships and payments. This year when she tried to unfreeze my membership for the pool season, she was unable to get this done thru ABC financial, she was directed to contact the gym's manager. When she contacted the manager, he asked her to come in with an "open mind" and he would help her. She met with the manager Rick Anderson. My wife took off work early to meet the manager on or around June 11, 2017. That is when Rick Anderson told her to CANCEL our family's memberships. She was told she was taking advantage of the gym and that people like her with these "cheap $9.95 memberships" was the main reason the gym had financial problems. He told her that she had to then go home and do a private email to him asking him to un-freeze my son and I. He said that IF HE GOT THE EMAIL, he would as a one time courtesy allow the unfreeze. She asked if he was cutting us off from the pool? He said not at this time but we should expect that by next season we would have no pool access. She has made numerous attempts to tell someone what happened that day with Mr. Anderson but no one from FC ever follows up and gets back to her regards this incident with the manager. My wife has called all over including Huston TX to report this indecent. My wife left his office that day crying and has not been able to bring herself into the gym to work out sense this incident. I have encouraged her to get this matter resolved so she can again feel good and return to the gym - but no one seems willing or able to help her. With this said I work out of the area weekly and have little time for a gym in the Greenville, NC area. Unfortunately, I was away most the summer for work, and did not get a real opportunity to use the pool after all that she went thru to un-freeze my membership. Due to this harsh treatment, my wife has received in June 2017 the insults spoken to her by the manager Rick Anderson. I decided it was time I canceled my membership. No one should be treated like my wife was treated by the management - even paying "a cheap membership fee" as Rick Anderson called it. Our family myself, my adult son and adult daughter were long standing loyal members of this gym. I hope someone will contact my wife regarding this bad experience. She is still a member at this time. My hubby and I are looking for a gym, and were excited to look at this gym because of its size and the amount of classes it had. The experience from start to finish was uncomfortable. They make you sign a waiver form even before you can look at the gym, with address, phone number, email address and so on to "gather info on your fitness needs." Why do you need all this info when I just want to look at a gym??? It was a very impersonable approach and I felt they were just talking to me for marketing research. I'm from Orlando, Florida and for what this gym offers, I'd easily be charged $100 for something similar.
